This was spotted as I was looking for Orange-tip eggs on some Garlic Mustard and Cuckooflower in Abbotts Wood.
I spotted this tiny long-horned micro moth and couldn't remember seeing one before.
When I got home I checked my Micro moth books and identified it as Cauchas rufimitrella, however there were no recent records of it in the Abbotts Wood area.
Being so small it may well have been overlooked but it does appear, according to the county recorder, that it is beginning to spread to new areas and recolonising areas that had lost the insect.
A sad find. Garlic Mustard is an extreme foreign invasive. I will be looking into contacting the right people to see what they may want to do with the large field of this invasive plant.

Garlic mustard
Garlic mustard a invasive species
Plants are often found growing along the margins of hedges, giving rise to the old British folk name of Jack-by-the-hedge. Other common names include Garlic Mustard, Garlic Root, Hedge Garlic, Sauce-alone, Jack-in-the-bush, Penny Hedge and Poor Man's Mustard.
Add finely chopped hedge garlic leaves for bite and a hint of garlic and colour to salads, dips, mayonnaise and sandwiches. Use the leaf in pesto, frittatas and soups or add it at the last minute to sauces
Alliaria petiolata, or garlic mustard, is a biennial flowering plant in the mustard family (Brassicaceae). It is native to Europe, western and central Asia, north-western Africa, Morocco, Iberia and the British Isles, north to northern Scandinavia,[2] and east to northern Pakistan and Xinjiang in western China.[1]
In the first year of growth, plants form clumps of round, slightly wrinkled leaves, that when crushed smell like garlic. The plants flower in spring of the next year, producing cross shaped white flowers in dense clusters. As the flowering stems bloom they elongate into a spike-like shape. When flowering is complete, plants produce upright fruits that release seeds in mid-summer. Plants are often found growing along the margins of hedges, giving rise to the old British folk name of jack-by-the-hedge. Other common names include: garlic mustard,[3] garlic root, hedge garlic, sauce-alone, jack-in-the-bush, penny hedge and poor man's mustard. The genus name Alliaria, "resembling Allium", refers to the garlic-like odour of the crushed foliage.
All parts of the plant, including the roots, give off a strong odour like garlic.

♦ Add chopped garlic mustard weed to omelets or frittatas where a garlicky bite is welcome.
♦ Stems and leaves make tasty additions to stir-fries.
♦ Add sauteed stems and leaves to pasta. They’d be especially good with asparagus in a variation on this mouth-watering spring garlic and fettucine.
♦ Chopped stems, leaves, and flowers make a delicious addition to vegetable soups. Add toward the end of cooking to avoid imparting a bitter flavor.
♦ Blend into butter or soft cheeses to make a garlicky herb spread for crackers or toast.
♦ The root may be used as a horseradish substitute or as a spicy root vegetable.
♦ The seeds may also be used as a spice in the way you’d use mustard seed.
Walking by I saw something glittering in the sun and - and discovered this little lady with super long antennae :-))) According to the books the antennae of the male ones are even longer, incredible ;-)

Im Vorbeigehen sah ich etwas in der Sonne glitzern - und entdeckte diese kleine Dame mit super langen Fühlern :-) Laut Büchern sind die Fühler von den Männchen noch länger, unglaublich ;-)

Dramatically coloured, the dark metallic green/blue-black ground colour of the Brassica Shieldbug is overlain with red, yellow, creamy white or orange markings. This bug overwinters as an adult, emerging in the spring. Larvae may be found from May-July on a range of hostplants in the Brassicaceae such as garlic mustard and horse-radish. It is well distributed in southern and central England, with recent records from south Wales.

In my garden...
Alliaria petiolata, or garlic mustard, is a biennial flowering plant in the mustard family. It is native to Europe, western and central Asia, north-western Africa, Morocco, Iberia and the British Isles, north to northern Scandinavia, and east to northern Pakistan and Xinjiang in western China.
The nutrient dense seasoning powder not only tastes delicious but provides our body a rainbow of minerals that are not readily found in conventionally grown foods. Garlic mustard greens are high in Vitamin A and Vitamin C as well as trace minerals, chlorophyll and enzymes.
Camouflaged larva of insect in the family Pieridae feeding on garlic mustard (Alliaria petiolata) leaf
(108/365) I was in our polytunnel on Tuesday picking lettuce leaves for my salad when a Queen wasp stung me. I felt a sharp pain in my hand & up she flew. I rubbed vinegar on the sting site & took an antihistamine. A while later I was taking photos of the Garlic Mustard in the garden & it was only when I zoomed in on this photo that I noticed the Wasp's stinger was protruding so it must have been her that got me. My hand is still swollen & itchy - not my favourite insect HBBBT
