On a walk around the city on a damp grey day August 29, 2015 Christchurch, New Zealand to catch up on what's happing.
Having a keen interest in astro photography I knew that there was going to be International Space Station passes over our region this week so after arranging to meet up with a good friend Mike Ridley we headed up to Sycamore Gap, Hadrian's Wall in Northumberland which we guessed would be a great location to capture its Eastern fly by from a Western Azimuth at 21.49 on Monday night.
We trekked to the tree made famous by the Robin Hood movie and after a comedic scramble through the bog on the Northern side of the wall managed to capture the I.S.S in all its glory! I was amazed at how bright it was even in a full moonlit sky and it really shifts!
Soon after we decided to head back to the tree which meant an even funnier scramble through the same bog which left Mike up to his knees at one point! I thought I was going to have to rescue him with my tripod!
In the past i've took a daytime shot from this exact position so thought i'd try and recreate it at night. The tree looked great lit from the East by the full moon which was very bright!
I gave some additional lighting to the tree with my LED Lenser head torch while Mike lit the path briefly with his LED torch.
After previewing the shot in camera it appeared that as a bonus we had captured an Iridium Flare from a passing satellite but I would like some feedback on this.

The RAW file was opened in Adobe Camera Raw where I used a lens profile to remove distortion and light Chromatic Aberations from the stars.
Various other slight adjustments were made such as lifting the shadows before I opened in Photoshop CS6.
Finally I removed some light noise in the sky using Topaz Denoise.
As i've mentioned previously I now have a Photography page on Facebook if youre on there so check it out :)

Also please check out Mike Ridleys stream to see his I.S.S fly by shots :)
Revisiting sycamore gap, but this time taking a bit of time to walk along the Hadrian's Wall route, rather than shoot from the roadside as I had done previously.

The Newfound Gap Overlook is just a short distance from the Morton Overlook I posted my previous sunset shots from. We got a few shots in here and were planning to shoot stars but the park rangers decided to close down the mountain because of snow and ice and we had to leave. I can't believe they actually closed outside... bummer.

The Gap is a low point between Taitomo Island and cliffs of the mainland.
In Maori tradition, The Gap was the lare of the famous Taniwha Kaiwhare, and the area was know as Te Rua o Kaiwhare. Kaiwhare was the guardian spirit of the coast. Kaiwhare means “the house eater”, and this was because local folk embarking on ocean voyages or fishing trips floated in food on a little raft with a house on top, to appease Kaiwhare.

"Mind the gap" (in inglese Attenzione al vuoto) è una frase resa popolare dall'uso nella Metropolitana di Londra. Fu introdotta nel 1969 per avvertire i passeggeri dello spazio che si viene creare in alcune stazioni tra la banchina e la porta del treno. La frase è diventata tanto nota da essere spesso stampata anche su souvenir e gadget turistici londinesi.

This was an offshoot on the Coosa river near Wetumpka Alabama. It was at a famous Rapid called Moccasin Gap. If I am being honest that was my first attempt at White Water and I did it with my DSLR along for the ride. NEVER AGAIN!!!!! I made it through the Class 3 rapid but I also put my gear on the boat of someone who ran the Class 2 easier side. Then I almost flipped with my photography gear on a nice Class 2. I swam rather than let my boat flip with my photography gear i bailed and pushed the boat so it didnt flip. I know how to ride out a rapid without a boat so rode through and swan to a beach below the rapid.
this is a coffee table that my mom had made from a real ship's hatch cover. it's a great one-of-a-kind thing but you have to be careful of what you place on it, since small/narrow things can fall thru the gaps :) maybe i'll dust it and do a replace???
and this what happens when it's the last day of the scavenger hunt and you still have half a dozen items to capture. you cast around looking for a photo op and photo prop that might fit.

Personally, I don't understand why they didn't just go ahead and construct a space between here while they were building up the new Dick's Sporting Goods.

Went to Birling Gap the other day with my daughter for a little walk.
Here she is posing for the camera with some nice sea and cloudage behind.
I used a bit of fill in flash off camera and to my left whilst exposing for the background and my camera was on my tripod.
Thankyou for all your wonderful support especially as I haven't been on a lot lately.
I will try and pop past your streams very soon.
One of the Ring of Kerry's finest views, the Gap of Dunloe. This one was taken during a lull in torrential rainfall ;) If you look closely near the middle of the image, you can see two lovely brown horses :) A horse also casually strolled by (unattended!) while I was snapping away :) No doubt it was enjoying the scenery as much as I was!
Wikipedia says: "The Gap of Dunloe (from Irish: Dún Lóich, meaning "Lóich's stronghold", otherwise known as Bearna an Choimín meaning "gap of the common-land") is a narrow mountain pass between Macgillycuddy's Reeks (west) and Purple Mountain (east) in County Kerry, Ireland. It is about 11 km (7 miles) from north to south. Within it are five lakes: Coosaun Lough, Black Lake, Cushnavally Lake, Auger Lake, and Black Lough (north to south). These lakes are connected by the River Loe. Between the first two lakes is an old arch bridge called the 'Wishing Bridge' so named because it is said that wishes made while upon it are destined to come true."
