Lets that the month with some swing, with the New Orleans Preservation Hall band paying at JazzFest 2016 . Special mention to Charlie Gabriel blowing that clarinet he was 84 when the shot was taken he had his 87th birthday recently and he is still playing .
The musical heritage of Charlie Gabriel can be traced back as far back as the 1850s. Great-grandson of New Orleans bass player Narcesse Gabriel, grandson of New Orleans cornet player Martin Joseph, and son of New Orleans drummer and clarinetist Martin Manuel Gabriel . Gabriel was born in 1932, learning to play at an early age with some of the New Orleans’ earliest jazz musicians, such as Kid Howard and George Lewis. At the age of 14, Gabriel moved to Detroit, where–two years later–he impressed Lionel Hampton with his skill and received an invitation to join the Lionel Hampton band. In 2009, he began touring with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band.
This picture does not perhaps reflect the reality of the day it was poring with rain when I took the shot. About an hour later the days music was cancelled due to torrential rain and lightning storms . This was a enormous drag as Stevie Wonder was headlining that day and I missed out on seeing this musical giant

• MY BLOG
I got tagged by Açu and Maíra to answer some questions. I don't know if my english is 100% correct, so feel free to tell me if you read something wrong. ;)
1. How are you doing?
Today I’m a little bit down, with no reason. x) But I’m feeling fine lately.
2. What’s the meaning of your Flickr nickname?
I’ve always used "Gabrimim", which is "Gabri" from my name, Gabriela, plus "mim", a first person pronoun, that means "me". A few weeks ago I’ve changed my nickname to Gabrie, which is just a part of my name. xD I’m thinking about changing it to Brie, because it’s a cute nickname for Gabriela (better than Gabi, in my opinion).
3. What’s your sexuality?
I’m heterosexual.
4. What’s your fashion style?
I like girly clothes, like high waist skirts and floral vintage dresses, but I must admit that my favourite clothes are pyjamas. xD
5. How collecting dolls influences your life?
Having dolls have changed completely my life. I didn’t have a hobby until then and because of them I discovered a passion for photography. Starting to collect dolls also helped me to pass through a very hard moment of my life (which is not over, but I kinda see a light now), and I've made very special friends. <3
6. What does your family think about you being a doll collector?
Most part of my family think I’m childish and have no interest in my doll photos, but a very few people, especially my little cousin, like my dolls very much. x3
7. What’s your biggest fear?
It may seem a little bit silly, but my biggest fear is not having a real family. I really want to have a nice person by my side and some kids (and dogs, and cats xD) in the future. I don’t have siblings and my relationship with my mom is not so good, so I dream a lot about having my own family.
---
A Açu e a Maíra me marcaram nessa tag. São apenas algumas questões sobre mim. :3
1. Como você está?
Hoje estou meio pra baixo, sem motivo. x) Mas até que ando bem ultimamente.
5. Como colecionar bonecas influenciou sua vida?
As dolls mudaram completamente minha vida.

Etty Hillesum and Anne Frank were the most important chroniclers of life under nazi occupation in WW2 in Holland. In her diaries, which are of great literary value, Etty also offered psychological and philosophical insights into her own life and that of humanity as a whole. She was murdered in Auschwitz in 1943, at the age of 29. She lives on in her literary work.

Address Jakubské Square
St. James Church is a late Gothic three-nave church situated in the Jakubské square in Brno- Brno center, whose history dates back to the early 13th century. In 1995 the church was declared a national cultural monument. In the church is the tomb of the famous defender of Brno Louise Raduit. On the ceiling of the church are a number of guild characters, coats of arms of noble families and several monograms.
History
Church in 1828
At the time of its founding, the church was mainly intended for the German population that settled around present-day Běhounska street. Foundation of the church is expected in the period, which is defined by the reign of Vladislav Henry, between the years 1201 to 1222. Was in 1340 in the basement of the house next door, which the church before his death bequeathed the local vicar, established ossuary. At this time, documented cemetery around the church, which was in the next ten years gradually expanded. From 1368 to 1405 around the church have been established several chapels (Corpus Christi, St. Maurice and St. Ursula), which created a special urban complex.
Construction
Construction of the church, in the form in which it is known that certain amendments to the present day, had already begun before the Hussite wars, but the construction has progressed only to the position of the choir, pillars and perimeter walls. From 1502 he began work on the church builder Anton Pilgram, who founded the northern ship with the portal . Roofing was done probably before 1530. The construction of the church tower began in the 16th century, in 1592 it was increased by A. Gabrie of the clock and completion did Simon Tauch, who put the tower Renaissance dome. The height of the tower is 92 meters. During the Thirty Years' War, the church was not damaged and therefore there was no need to rebuild the church - helping to maintain his predominantly late-Gothic appearance.
The cemetery which was located around the church, has been around since 1784, and with it gradually disappeared also the complex above the chapel. From the church were subsequently moved several tombstones, and currently there are six. Church without prejudice to the Baroque style. In 1878 the church was done insensitively regothization. In the years 1900 - 1901 was the neo-Gothic parish church designed by Alois Prastorfem and Germans Wanderleym .
Constance.
For more information, see Brno Ossuary .
In the basement of the church is the second largest ossuary discovered in Europe. According to estimates, in the ossuary are located the remains of about fifty thousand individuals. Constance is from the end of June 2012 normally open to the public in visiting hours.

www.recyclart.org/2016/01/recycled-art-interview-9-gabrie...
We continue our series of posts interviewing "recycled art" crafters & artists. This week, we interviewed Gabriel Dishaw, a sculptor we follow since a long time as we love his works mainly made from recycled computer & typewriter parts. If you think you deserve to be featured in the next interview, please, drop us an email.
Tell us a little more about you? Who you are? Where are you from?
My passion for working with metal and mechanical objects has been essential in the evolution of my art. It provides me an avenue to express myself in a way that brings new life to materials such as typewriters, adding machines and old computers – technology that would normally end up in a landfill. My mission is to create dialogue and help find creative, environmentally sound ways of re-purposing e-waste. I was born and raised in Michigan, but now live in Indianapolis, Indiana.
How did you become an Upcycled Artist?
I’ve always been an artistic individual and was enrolled in advanced art classes in school, but I truly found my passion for this particular art form in 9th Grade. My teacher posted 30 art project ideas on the chalk board for us to choose from and make it our own. One of the items listed was “Junk Art.” To be honest, I had no idea what that was so I did a bit of research then went into my dad’s garage and began to tinker. That’s one of those moments you look back on and think had the art teacher not offered that particular project, I don’t know I would have emerged an artist in this genre.
Since when are you working with junk materials and in upcycling in general?
It started in 9th grade so that would be 19 years I have been refining my process. Wow how time fly’s.
Your works are mainly done with recycled electronics & typewriter parts. Could you tell us from where come this choice of materials?
I find adding machines and typewriters to be the most useful when sourcing parts for projects. They have similar elements such as striker keys and gears in duplicate quantities, which makes it easier to create symmetrical designs. Beyond that, I often go to antique shops looking for unique items – something no one in their right mind would buy. As the saying goes, "One man's trash is another man's treasure."
Where did you find your raw materials for your sculptures, are you searching for them or are there coming to you as you are now well known in the recycled art world?
I get them from all over but, mostly from Family/Friends and my local antique/flee markets. I have even had instances where people have dropped stuff off at my door step knowing that I will put good use to some they don't want to see end up in a landfill.
Your pieces of art are very complexes, how long does it take to create one?
Much of that depends on the scale and complexity of the sculpture – and a bit of luck finding the right pieces to the puzzle. Some of my smaller projects can take approximately 40 hours to complete, however, I might have spent several hours simply digging through my bins to locate the hundreds of parts needed to construct it. I pride myself in adding hidden details to each art piece which takes time and is not easily translated through pictures.
On your website, you sell your pieces of art, are you able to live with your recycling art?
I do have a day job, but the plan is to gain financial independence and create fulltime. To me my craft is not work it’s my true passion.
What are your can’t-live-without essentials?
These are in no particular order: Instagram, foredom drill, my I-phone, star wars, audible.com (I really enjoy listening to audio books when I sculpt.), Netflix.
How is your workspace, how do you make it inspiring?
My work space is my converted 2 car garage. Which I have created into a very nice work space with heaters TV, speakers all the amenities I need to stay comfortable and creative. When I get my hands on my supplies (junk) I work to disassemble the piece down to its smallest components I then sort those items with in plastic bins. Just image hundreds of plastic shoe bins filled with electronic parts that my work space.
What sorts of things are inspiring you right now? Where do you look for inspiration?
I get a ton of my inspiration from Instagram there are so many talented people that I follow. Generally I begin a project without any defined plan. Instead, I look for how well pieces work together or how they move and then let those materials drive the color scheme or overall endpoint of where an idea will land, what it will turn into. For instance, the inspiration for one of my horse sculptures, “Rearing Horse,” came to me while taking apart an old adding machine. Some of the pieces reminded me of a horse’s head. The rest just fell into place. For a commissioned pieces, it’s a bit of a different story. The theme is very much inspired by the client, their history and the story to be told through my art.
What is your guilty pleasure?
Craft Beer! I really enjoy an Indiana beer call Gumball Head by Three Floyds Brewery.
What is your favorite thing to do (other than art)?
Playing my Xbox1… I’m really into Fallout4 right now.
What are your tips for people who'd like to start recycling art?
The materials aren’t very hard to find, they are all around us… I would start with just taking things apart and trying to reimagine the parts and pieces as something different. This is a skill you must practice but I get a lot of enjoyment out of the taking things apart. I think it helps to satisfy my curious nature.
To finish, your art clearly show that you’re a big fan of Star Wars, did you liked the last opus?
I loved the new movie it was great! In fact I saw it twice. They definitely made this movie for the fans.
Thanks a lot Gabriel for this interview! :)
To find more about Gabriel:
** The Maiden's Tower (Turkish: Kız Kulesi), also known as Leander's Tower (Tower of Leandros) since the medieval Byzantine period, is a tower lying on a small islet located at the southern entrance of the Bosphorus strait 200 m (220 yd) from the coast of Üsküdar in Istanbul, Turkey.
After the naval victory at Cyzicus, the Ancient Athenian general Alcibiades possibly built a custom station for ships coming from the Black Sea on a small rock in front of Chrysopolis (today's Üsküdar). In 1110 Byzantine Emperor Alexius Comnenus built a wooden tower protected by a stone wall. From the tower an iron chain stretched across to another tower erected on the European shore, at the quarter of Mangana in Constantinople. The islet was then connected to the Asiatic shore through a defense wall, whose underwater remains are still visible. During the siege of Constantinople in 1453, the tower held a Byzantine Garrison commanded by the Venetian Gabriele Trevisano. After the conquest of the city, Sultan Mehmet II used the structure as a watch tower. The tower, mistakenly known as Leander's Tower after the legend of Hero and Leander (which took place in the Dardanelles), was destroyed during the earthquake of 1509 and burned in 1721. Since then it was used as a lighthouse and the surrounding walls were repaired in 1731 and 1734, until in 1763 it was erected using stone. From 1829 the tower was used as a quarantine station and in 1832 was restored by Sultan Mahmud II. Restored again by the harbour authority in 1945, the most recent restoration began in 1998 and steel supports were added around the ancient tower as a precaution after the 17 August 1999 earthquake.
The interior of the tower has been transformed into a popular café and restaurant, with an excellent view of the former Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman capital. Private boats make trips to the tower several times a day.
