The modern looking Millennium Bridge leads up to Saint Paul's Cathedral in an example of architectural contrast so common in London.
The Millennium Bridg is a steel suspension bridge for pedestrians crossing the River Thames in London, England, linking Bankside with the City. The Bridge opened in 2000 to celebrate the new millennium.

I put Mindy's girly bandana which lets people know she's a girl-dog (how can they not tell?), and also asks tells them "Don't pet me" and "I'm working".
I got this so maybe people would get the hint, and I wouldn't have to look like a bit meanie because I won't let them pet the doggie.
A blonde teenager in a white bikini bent down to, you guessed it, pet her as I stood in line for some fries and a drink. I really didn't mind telling her not to pet Mindy - I mean, can't she read?
I love it when people standing close to me, talk to each other as if I'm not only blind, but deaf as well. "Oh, look at the cute puppy!" "Ya, but she's working, so don't pet her", "What if I ask if I can pet her?", "You CAN'T, it's a Guide Dog" "OHHHHH...I wanna pet the doggie!"
Now this is not an exchange between a parent and a child, for some reason, they seem to know that they have to ask before they pet a strange dog, it is the teens and 20'somethings that are the worst for some reason.
I loved the bright pink of this bandana, so decided to highlight it by making the photo black and white with just some colour punched through the layers.
These guides, published by the Boeing Commercial Airplane Company, are an airplane nerd's delight. Think of it as an airliner striptease. You will find all kinds of detailed information on what is under that smooth, glossy aluminum skin.

After the end of the guided walking tour of Tarragona Old Town, we followed our tour manager back to the hotel along the Rambla Nova, starting from the beach front view.
There was many statues and sculptures to see along the way back to the hotel!
The Rambla Nova is a 45-meter wide avenue that crosses the modern city of Tarragona from southeast to northwest (700 meters long). It has a wide central promenade with trees and sidewalks for cars. It goes from the Plaza de la Imperial Tàrraco (west) to the Balcón del Mediterraneo (east), a viewpoint over the sea where the locals go "to play iron." You get the name by analogy with the Rambla de Barcelona , since there is no old stream : the nearest point to the sea, the Mediterranean balcony, is the highest of the walk (42 m above sea level), while the Plaza de la Imperial Tàrraco is 24 meters above sea level.
This is the central axis of the Tarragona Eixample. With regard to its architectures, it is a privileged axis, since almost all of them are of great quality and define a time and a time. Also worthy of note are the sculptures arranged in the central area, such as the monument to Roger de Llúria, the Heroes of 1811 (popularly the statue of the naked ones) and the Font del Centenari.
The Rambla Nova was built on August 18 , 1854 , the year of the demolition of the San Juan wall. The urbanization project is due to Josep Criviller, winner of a public competition organized by the City Council in 1854 to carry out the union between the upper and lower parts of the city. After many difficulties, with the death of its author, the project definitively approved in 1857, by Àngel Romero, is a reform and improvement of the sketch of Criviller.
At first it was known as the "Esplanada", but later it was called the Rambla de Sant Joan in memory of the old section of the wall that passed there. In 1899 , year after the death of Emilio Castelar , the name of Rambla de Castelar was placed on the stretch between Carrer de Sant Agustí and El Balcó. Later it was called Rambla Nova , and in 1931 , with the advent of the Second Republic , it was named Rambla April 14 . After the Civil War, the Rambla del Generalísimo Franco was called . The section between the square of Imperial Tàrraco and the source of the Centenary was named Conde de Vallellano Avenue , in honor of Fernando Suárez de Tangil , Minister of Public Works (1951-1957). Finally, in the 70's , the current name of Rambla Nova was recovered for the entire walk from Plaza de la Imperial Tárraco to the Balcón.
In 2006 , a new section of the Rambla was opened, along Avenida del Presidente Lluís Companys and Avenida del Presidente Francesc Macià, which culminated in Plaça de les Corts Catalanes. With this new section, the Rambla was 1,000m long and it took a walk from the Francolí River to the Mediterranean Sea.
The monument wants to represent a sort of classical column. The lower part has all the elements of a classical column, with the base, the base and the beginning of the striated shaft, but at the top it becomes a monolith of cubical lines in which the Club's shield stands out Gymnastics

In the desert of the African coast, dark and dreary clouds loomed in the sky. With the weather unpredictable, Soldiers were making use of their time in training.
Soldiers with the 331st Transportation Company and 1098th Medium Boat Company, out of Fort Eustis, Va., took part in survival, escape and evasion training to improve their skills and combat efficiency during exercise African Lion 2011 at Cap Draa, Morocco, May 5.
Exercise African Lion 11 is a chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff-directed, U.S. Africa Command-scheduled, U.S. Marine Corps Forces, Africa-conducted, joint and bi-lateral exercise between the Kingdom of Morocco and the U.S. that involves more than 2,000 U.S. service members, consisting of elements from the Army, Navy, Marines and Air Force, training alongside approximately 900 members of the Royal Moroccan Armed Forces. The exercise takes place from April 25 to June 18.
The Soldiers participating in the exercise formed an element titled Task Force 24.
“Survival skills are good for all Soldiers in the Army to know,” said Sgt. 1st Class Nathan Almaas, the training instructor and Juneau, Alaska, native with TF 24. “If you are ever stuck out in the desert, this is good training to have.”
Almaas demonstrated to Soldiers techniques to purify urine into drinking water, find true north, determine edible foods and benefits of eating certain animals, and starting fires.
The Soldiers became more inventive by learning unorthodox methods to start fires such as using household accelerants and items for ignition. Soldiers were shown how insect repellants and hand sanitizers are flammable and can be ignited by using pieces of glass, personal glasses, and flint in order to survive.
Almass said the survival training gives Soldiers one-on-one experience in advanced and reliable techniques they would normally have to learn from a more advanced military course. He said this knowledge is potentially lifesaving and invaluable for each and every Soldier partaking.
The training was serious, yet some Soldiers like Staff Sgt. James Brogan from Boston, with the 331 Transportation Company, Modular Causeway, tried to make the training fun while keeping its effectiveness. Brogan kept his group of Soldiers motivated by calling them “Brogans Team Elite” and by comically giving them constructive criticism when correcting their errors instead of the usual military seriousness.
Survival is the most basic instinct of anyone, but the knowledge needed to survive without modern commodities can only be gained by proper training.
“We’ve tried to harness the power of fire since the dawn of man,” said Brogan, “and today we have.”

A ranger begins a tour aboard the Lake Queem II on Yellowstome Lake as it leaves Bridge Bay marina in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming. Yhe tour boat gives senic tours around the Lkae Village and Stevenson Island Area in the summer. Usually there is a ranger aboard to give the narration and tell about the both the history and natural history of the Lake area.
With a surface area of 132 square miles, Yellowstone Lake is the largest lake at high elevation (i.e., more than 7,000 ft.) in North America. It is a natural lake, situated at 7,733 ft. above sea level. It is roughly 20 miles long and 14 miles wide with 141 miles of shoreline. It is frozen nearly half the year. It freezes in late December or early January and thaws in late May or early June.Recent research by Dr. Val Klump of the Center for Great Lakes Research and the University of Wisconsin has revolutionized the way we look at Yellowstone Lake. Figuratively, if one could pour all the water out of Yellowstone Lake, what would be found on the bottom is similar to what is found on land in Yellowstone; geysers, hot springs, and deep canyons. With a small submersible robot, the researchers found a canyon just east of Stevenson Island which was 390 ft. deep. Prior to this finding, the deepest spot in the lake was thought to be 320 ft., at West Thumb.Underwater geysers, hot springs, and fumaroles were found at West Thumb and Mary and Sedge Bays. The hottest spot in the lake was found at Mary Bay where the temperature was recorded at 252° F (122° C). Hollow pipes, or chimneys of silica, several feet in height, were found rising up from the lake bottom at Mary Bay. It is thought that these are the old plumbing systems of now dormant geysers. Rock spires up to 20-feet tall were found underwater near Bridge Bay. Samples of this rock are being analyzed, though it is believed that these features are probably related to underwater thermal activity. This group of researchers also found that the conditions in Yellowstone Lake are similar to those that occur near the famous hydrothermal vents on the Pacific Ocean's mid-ocean ridge. Nutrient- and mineral-rich submarine fountains support incredible plant and animal communities, including bacterial mats, sponges, and earthworms.

Guide Bridge Station was built by the Sheffield, Ashton-under-Lyne and Manchester Railway on its new line from Ardwick Junction, near to the Manchester and Birmingham Railway's terminus at Store Street, (now Piccadilly) to Sheffield and opened as Ashton and Hooley Hill on 11 November 1841 when the line opened as far as Godley Toll Bar. It was renamed Ashton in February 1842 and became Guide Bridge on 14 July 1845 when the line was extended to Sheffield.
The station originally had a 4 platform configuration with a large office on the southern side. However, the southern (former fast line) platforms were decommissioned and the tracks lifted in 1984-85 as part of layout alterations associated with the changeover from 1500V DC to 25KV AC working on the Hadfield line, with demolition of the buildings following a few years later. The area has been covered and used as access for the southern platform, but some evidence remains of the previous two tracks. The junction at the country end of the station was also remodelled in 2011 to allow Stalybridge line trains to cross the junction at 30 mph (max) rather than 15 mph as previously.
With the electrification of the Manchester–Sheffield (via Woodhead) line in the early 1950s, Guide Bridge, already a major centre of railway operations, increased in importance. Express trains called here, as well as EMU trains between Manchester London Road and the north Derbyshire towns of Glossop and Hadfield. There were also Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU) services from Manchester London Road (Piccadilly) to Macclesfield (via Rose Hill Marple - closed in January 1970), Stockport Edgeley to Stalybridge and to Oldham (via the Oldham, Ashton & Guide Bridge Railway, which closed to passengers in 1959). The station was also where Express Trains to and from Manchester Central on the London Marylebone route, changed locomotive. Drawn by a Bo-Bo or Co-Co Electric Locomotive from Sheffield, a steam or in later years diesel Locomotive would take the train the final few miles to Manchester Central and vice versa. The Woodhead Line was busy with goods traffic, especially with coal traffic from South Yorkshire to Lancashire power stations. The station also accepted goods under British Railways "Passenger" freight service and had a licensed Buffet.
There was a large marshalling yard about a mile east of Guide Bridge at Dewsnap. There was also a stabling point immediately to the east of Guide Bridge station where engines could be fuelled. Guide Bridge was also where the local Retail Coal Merchants transferred Coal from British Rail Coal wagons, carefully weighed into One Hundredweight sacks for delivery to homes around Ashton, Audenshaw and Denton. Express passenger trains via the Woodhead line ceased operation on 5 January 1970, but Dewsnap sidings and Guide Bridge stabling point were busy until the final closure of the Woodhead Line (east of Hadfield) on 20 July 1981. The Class 76 electric locomotives were a frequent sight here, along with Class 25, Class 40 and numerous others classes of diesels.
