On a windswept islet, close to the fishing village of the same name; 15 km west of Kristiansund on Nordmøre. There you will find Grip lighthouse. In this inhospitable place, lighthouse keepers have lived and served for over 90 years. Not a job for the faint of heart. (Translated from kystverket.no)
We took a boat trip to Grip, and although the lighthouse was a bit far away, we had a good view of it from the island. I added some HDR. The slanted stripes are due to the sunbeams.

After the catch, the fish is repositioned to go down head first. I watched this Great Egret fishing for about an hour (more like him staring at the water and me waiting) before I finally got the shot I wanted. (And he got the fish he wanted.)
Catchy synth wave tracks! I was really impressed by their lead singer, Rita Lukea and how energetic she was without missing a beat!

Having suffered all day from the tremendous heatwave here in Southern England I decided to do something proactively against sweating and find my solace and refreshment in this memory from May when we stood by the shore of this little Icelandic river which had sculpted kind of half pipes into the unbelievable masses of snow. I am sure you will feel just as refreshed as I did when picturing myself back in this place :)
Good morning!! My second week taking part in macro Monday. I'll admit, I almost backed out. Not sure why I'm so insecure about these type of images but there is that little voice of doubt that never seems to go away. Anyways...I'm always telling people to just post what they love even if it isn't everyones cup of tea. So here I am...posting some peely paint, little rust, and weathered old wood!! :-)
Hope you're all having a lovely start to the week! HMM!!
A very deep grip on the archive:
On my first trip to the USA in 2006 I hiked the John Muir Trail in the valley of the Merced River to the Nevada Falls.
Ein ganz tiefer Griff ins Archiv:
Auf meiner ersten USA-Reise 2006 wanderte ich bei Traumwetter den John Muir Trail im Tal des Merced River bis zu den Nevada Falls.

The Wood Duck is one of the most stunningly pretty of all waterfowl. Males are iridescent chestnut and green, with ornate patterns on nearly every feather; the elegant females have a distinctive profile and delicate white pattern around the eye. These birds live in wooded swamps, where they nest in holes in trees or in nest boxes put up around lake margins. They are one of the few duck species equipped with strong claws that can grip bark and perch on branches.

Here you can clearly see the osprey is precariously holding onto the bass only with its beak, as its talons are clearly wrapped around the tree branch. Will this grip hold?
Thanks so much to everyone who takes the time to view, like or comment on my photos!

He is only 3 months old but has a powerful grip on my wrinkled little finger, and my heart strings of course. Unfortunately he is only here a week then flies back to the North Island 600 km north. Making the most of every moment!
An Osprey is shaking off water and dirt while keeping a firm grip on the Kokanee Salmon.
The background here looks very much like fall colors and foliage. Although there were some foliage in the scene, the large parts were bare ground and debris. The affect was created by the characteristics of a super telephoto lens.
Caution...when someone tells you to get a grip...apparently around their neck is not what they meant:)))
Making sure he has a good grip on his prey, the Northern Hawk Owl sinks his talons into the vole before flying off to cache his catch in a nearby tree.
