I got this wooden kitchen goddess in Hanoi, Viet Nam. I have long loved the concept of small household gods and goddesses among the realm of 'local gods.' This one is watching me make early morning tea. Fruit is my favoirie healthy food.

IMPORTANCE OF MOTHER GODDESS (HEROINE) WORSHIP IN THEYYAM ARTS OF MALABAR
Kolathunad, the traditional Northern Division of Malabar, is an independent cultural unit different in much respect from the rest of Kerala. The cult of Theyyam, a ritualistic folk dance, is a significant cultural aspect of the Region. Its origin can be traced to remote antiquity. As a living cult with centuries-old tradition, it has become part of the popular religion of HINDU Community in this area. These cults have been so much deep-rooted that the social changes and modernization of our day have not destroyed them.
The cult of mother Goddess has prevailed in India in remote antiquity.It may be supposed the pre-Aryan races defined the female principle which ultimately developed into a cult of Mother Goddess.
Olden time’s women’s were equally respected. In MANUSMRITHI, Raja Manu stated “Yetra Naryasthu Poojyentte Remanthe Tatra Devatha”. Where women’s are not respected, there the entire work is in-vain. The same principle is adopted in Theyyam arts too.
He is our family priest in India. We invite him whenever there is any rituals perform in our home.. for the last 30 plus years. His vision is not clear these days also you have speak really loud to talk to him. He can not afford to to visit a doctor. In India there is a saying.. those who don't have any one to look after.. God looks after him. Even all 4 of his well settled sons doesn't take care of him. Ho told me that he totally surrendered himself to Goddess Ma Kali whom he is worshipping his entire life.
