This is one of the smaller side streams that feeds into one of the main creeks there in the glen. It was flowing very well on this particular visit that had recent heavy rains the night before. Many times it had no or very little flow when I have been there.

My dark very cold winter evening drive along Glen Etive from the junction with Glencoe was eventually rewarded with some moody images of this atmospheric location. The predicted heavy snow arrived within hours

Peak fall foliage along the hiking trail in Ricketts Glen state park. There was a light rain falling on this day that helped to saturation the fall colors.

On my last trip to Glen Etive back at the start of November i took a shot of a stag which amazed me as to how close i got to the beautiful stag. So on this trip i wanted to go back and hopefully get to show Suzanne one of the best sights this place has to offer. We were not to be disappointed, as this time we saw perhaps 40 or 50 deer, which included maybe 20 stag. This beautiful stag was one of a group of 5 or 6 that stood one a few feet from us, a day to remember in a very special place

Wandering around the glen

Sgurr nan Conbhairean (1109m) across Dundreggan lands in Glen Moriston. A bit of snow overnight ... a welcome sight! It's also stopped raining which it's been or seems like it's been doing for the last couple of weeks!

A 30 minute drive off the main road heading north through glencoe is Glen Etive, stunning waterfalls on the way down to the loch, if you come across the deer you’ll find they are close enough to touch. Loads of spaces to wild camp, which is legal in Scotland but take your midge net and repellant as they are the best fed critters in Scotland and your on the menu.

The River Bran seemed very low -- there was a drought in Wester Ross in the spring!

Happy Wednesday! Thanks for stopping by and for all of your kind comments, awards and faves -- I appreciate them all.

Took a drive to Rock Glen north of London.

The view looking east on the early morning climb up to Sgurr nan Eugallt, with some nice light coming in form the side. The view follows the south east ridge out to the secondary top Sgurr a Chlaidheimh in the centre, which was catching the light. Left of centre is the Munro Gairich, and to the left of Loch Cuaich on the extreme left of the picture are the twin Munros Gleouraich and Spidean Mialach. To the right of the ridge the prominant mountain is the Munro Sgurr Mor, and if you look closely you can just make out the profile of Ben Nevis faint on the horizon just to it's left.

A photo taken on our way home after a week on the Isle of Skye as we passed over the tops near Glen Garry. A fitting send-off after a lovely week.

a day in May..

A lovely day in this beautiful glen a few years ago.

Last weekend I had planned on head out to try and shoot some of the Perseid Meteor Shower. Unfortunately the weather in my area was terrible and I didn’t have time to travel further afield. However, the condition cleared up last night and although the main event, the peak of the meteor shower being at the weekend, is effectively over I decided to give it a go.

The location, Glen Doll, is a remote site at the southern edge of the Cairngorm National Park. I had never been there before and had planned on being there a few hours before dark to scout out a nice spot for some foreground detail. Unfortunately a combination of events delayed the journey and I arrived after dark. With no chance to scout further afield I just headed for the stream next to the site and grabbed a few shots there. I was experimenting with settings using my new 16-35 F4 L Canon lens. I’m accustomed to using an F2.8 for astro work and I was concerned that I just wouldn’t get enough light at F4. I think it worked out ok although I did have to crank the ISO higher than I would have liked and the resultant noise is a little disappointing.

That said, I’m not too unhappy with the results. Overall the meteors were a little lacking in impact. There were a few spectacular ones whilst on route and during set-up but alas none were particularly striking at the time of exposure. So the end result is a not so great shot of the Perseids but a not bad shot of the Milky Way.

A 9 image panorama of Glen Coe at sunset. The image looking from Beinn a'Chrulaiste over the Glen below, certainly a stunning view.

A beautiful, unseasonably mild February evening.

One of the advantages of the longer, northern summer days is the ability to go further afield and get in some real walking. So Ivy & I headed for Braemar and then made up our minds where to go from there!

Arran's favourite glen

I wasn't expecting snow when I woke up but was pleasantly surprised. With everything covered in a small layer of snow but with bleak overcast clouds, I decided to go to waterfall glen to see how it looked.

The snow was falling off the branches every seconds and quickly melting off the foreground rocks so I tried to move quickly. As I look outside now, it doesn't even look like it snowed at all.

A great place for a walk and is near a famous hostelry called the Spittal of glenshee hotel.its a pity it was burned down a couple of years ago.

A panoramic view of Glen Muick and Loch Muick in the Scottish Highlands. On a day like this it's just breath taking.

Our house in Scotland being sold, one week before we move away back to Dinnington, where I grew up and where my family still is, including the grandkids, we decided to take one last circuit around Loch Muick, the first place we explored when we moved up to Scotland 15 years ago. It's still as stunning as ever and I will certainly miss this kind of scenery.

Got about 5 more shots to post from my fruitful trip to Glencoe last weekend.

This was taken down Glen Etive on the long road down to Loch Etive. I was hoping to get sunset at the Loch but didn't realise how long it would take to get there so only got the tail end.

The shot is a bit dark but the skies were so bright I had to reduce the exposure even with a 3 stop grad that wasn't enough.

I risked a walk with Archie the dog today in Glen Cannich. We managed to dodge the showers but only just.
