This panorama offers a partial view of the Colorado River and the Glen Canyon Dam near Lake Powell and Page, Arizona. It is located near the colossal Horseshoe Bend featured on the previous image. The 710' high dam was built by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation between 1956 and 1966. It forms Lake Powell, one of the largest man-made reservoirs in the U.S. with a capacity of 27 million acre feet (33 km3). The dam is named for Glen Canyon, a series of deep sandstone gorges now flooded by the reservoir; Lake Powell is named for John Wesley Powell, who in 1869 led the first expedition to traverse the Colorado's Grand Canyon by boat.
From the upper slopes of Morrone we have a great view down across Glen Dee with the deep Glen Quoich running to the north
Rickett's Glen State Park, PA. The sense of green was almost overwhelming. The heavy rains from a series of tropical storms supercharged the streams and falls to spring like levels. Normally there is a trickle of water in August. We lucked out with the flow and managed to dodge all the rain while hiking.
This was the view from the breakfast room of our hotel in Glen Coe. The passing clouds every now and then revealed the summit of Stob Dearg, which is the highest and finest peak of Buachaille Etive Mòr, and one of the most famous sights of the Highlands.

Thank you for visiting. Your comments, awards and faves are very much appreciated.
The Glen Leigh Trail. This is the first cascades that you encounter as you work your way down the Glen Leigh Trail. I don't believe it is a named waterfall, but it is certainly picturesque.
One of the pretty waterfalls located in the Fairy Glen at Parbold. It's a lovely little place with some great compositions and we'll definately be revisiting at different times of the year.
Located within the awe-inspiring Lochaber Geopark in the Highlands, the deep valley and towering mountains of Glen Coe were carved out centuries ago by icy glaciers and volcanic explosions. In autumn, nature is adorned with magnificent colours of orange and brown, although the green never disappears.
A panoramic shot looking up Flowerdale Glen in Wester Ross. The buildings would be Flowerdale Mains and the hill in the background is Sidhean Mor (Big Fairy Hill).
With all the downed trees trying to dam things up ... thought a name change was in order.
Ricketts Glen State Park
Smudge .. for once taking it in .. reason for that is that we're inside a deer exclusion fence (look at all the trees growing!) so there's no deer scent to turn his ON switch on :)

A view from the road at the top of climb out of Glen Eagles. Along with Glen Devon to the south this forms a pass through the Ochil Hills.
Wreck of sailing ship SV Marjory Glen (Kently) at Punta Loyola near Rio Gallegos - Argentina, built 1892, lost by fire 1911. It was an incredible light that evening and nobody around.
"The Glen" in County Kerry, Iveragh Peninsula, Ireland. Shot with film using the Canon Elan, August 1999. This is where my ancestors made their home.
One of the many waterfalls there in Ricketts Glen. This one is not too big and hence not a lot of 'spray', so you can get in closer.
Union Pacific's incredibly beautiful Montana Subdivision is one of the most remote, yet underappreciated parts of their system. Beginning from the operating hub of Pocatello, Idaho, the railroad runs along the eastern portion of the Snake River Plain before negotiating two crossings of the continental divide and arriving in Silver Bow, Montana. Idaho Falls serves as the hub for all the local freights operating over the line while crews based out of Pocatello and Dillon operate the thrice weekly road train along the entire length of the subdivision.
July 5th’s edition of the MSBPC is depicted here traveling through the lush and green summer scenery on the steep climb upgrade between Glen and Apex on a sunny July evening. The spiffy blue MRL gondolas on the head end are loaded with copper concentrate from Montana Resources in Butte. This open pit copper mining operation is owned by the Washington Group and served by the Butte Anaconda & Pacific as their only carload customer. These cars along with Autoracks and traffic from BNSF make up this day's southbound train for Pocatello.
I couldn't find the name of this glen on any online maps but it runs roughly parallel to Glen Etive to the north-west. Here, the Coupall runs down the glen from its source before sweeping round Buachaille Etive Mor further downstream and meeting the River Etive.
Between Monadh Mor and Beinn Bhrotain, we look down into Glen Geusachan immediately below us. This meets Glen Dee running left to right, with The Devils Point on the near left of the junction. In Glen Dee is the River Dee, which flows through Aberdeen into the North Sea. Beyond Glen Dee is Glen Lui, with the summit of Carn a' Mhaim to the left.
Beinn Bhrotain (pronounced Bane Vrottan meaning Hill of the Hound) stands at 1157 meters (3796 feet) and is the first of our Munros today. Monadh Mor (pronounced Monnagh Mor meaning The Big Hill) is our second and final destination and stands at 1113 meters (3651 feet). A short 5 mile cycle up Glen Dee gets us to the foot of the climb, then it's an 11 mile hike across rough and boggy ground to get there. An epic 8.5 hours, largely un-pathed, time in the hills gets us back to the cars just before full dark falls!
Nicht umsonst gilt das Glen Affric als eines der schönsten in den Highlands. Einmal ums Loch Affric zu wandern bietet immer wieder wunderschöne Aussichten in die beeindruckende Umgebung.
Possibly half way up Ben MacDui now looking back along the way we've come along Glen Lui.
Ben Macdui is the UK's 2nd highest peak (second only to Ben Nevis) and stands at 1309m (4294ft). After descending from this Munro we make a climb to the 2nd Munro of the day, Carn a' Mhaim (pronounced Carn-ah-Vame) at 1037m (3402ft).
