The new 29-story, glass-and-steel Four Seasons Hotel Seoul, designed by Su Sin Tao of Singapore, is meant to look like an ancient Korean palace of old, but stylized and brought into the 21st century.
The main lobby lounge is built around a large circular fireplace, cast in an ancient bronze map of Korea, that details the country’s mountains, villages and rivers. More than 130 Korean artists are displayed throughout the building, including Ran Hwang, who used hundreds of ivory-colored buttons to produce a three-dimensional Korean ship for the lobby wall.
Every floor of the luxury hotel features floor-to-ceiling windows, which provide incomparable views of the central Gwanghwamun neighborhood. On one side you can see the stately, enormous Gyeongbokgung Palace, home of Korea’s kings and queens from the 14th through the early 20th centuries; on the other side, it’s modern Korea, all skyscrapers and international commerce, media institutes and modern public art.
When collecting sea glass at low tide, for me it's all about the hunt while enjoying the ocean breeze and warm sunshine.
I've been hearing a lot of stories recently.
Sad ones, heavy ones and dark ones,... lost friends, lost families,... and shards of glass,... so much glass.
You mostly think and hear about the blast and the heat,...
But for some reason the imagery of the shards of glass remain in my head long after the interviews.
Perhaps it reminds me of taping up windows during the war,... you know, a big X across the window panes to stop glass from shattering into a billion deadly pieces.
I dont know if that would have done any good really,.... maybe it was just something to do, some little activity to maintain the illusion that we still had some sort of control over our situation.
sometimes giving up and letting go is what you need to truly embrace the ride,... no matter how bumpy it gets.
Glass frog, Ecuador. This group is called glass frogs because in some species you can see the internal organs through their translucent belly skin. I think this is Espadarana prosoblepon, likely a male because of the bluish flap where the forearm meets the underside of the body. The flap is actually a sharp bony spur called a humeral spine. The spines may be used when males fight during breeding season, but one study I looked at said that spine size was not a predictor of battle-winners, so... Anyway, they're beautiful little frogs, and a species I had really hoped to see.
This is the base of a three pane stained glass window in the St. Thomas Becket Chapel at St. David's Cathedral. On the left is King Henry II whose knights (centre panel) murdered Becket on 29th December 1170. Becket is seen in the right hand panel.

A morning having a go at glass photography using a light tent Nikon R1C1 flash units and finished in Lightroom and Photoshop.
Light painted still life. Bristol Blue Glass has been made in our city since the 18th century. Cobalt Oxide is added to the glass to give it this deep blue colour. Local legend is that it was developed as a way of hiding the precise amount of taxable liquid in large glass containers from customs and excise officers.

A découvert soudain, l'horizon éclairci
Quand au détour des rues ses pas feutrés l'énoncent,
Libre enfin de s'assoir et rester aux aguets
Le félin apparait et domine les lieux.

A close up of a wine glass lit with two different color strobes. HMM Strobist Info: One YN 568EXii to the left of the camera, gelled with a orange gel, fired at about 1/2 power. The YN was attached to the camera with an OCF cord, and acted as a optical master to trigger a Canon 430 EXii to camera right gelled with a blue gel, fired at 1/2 power. The flashes were fired at 4 inch wide strips of white cardboard to either side of the frame, which bounced light back onto the glass. The flashes were flagged to prevent reflections on the glass.
