This was a frame extracted from a 4K video I shot using manual focus with a GH4. Can't wait to see what the GH5 can do!
When I was editing this photo, I noticed that Caracaras have human-like eye lashes - something I've never seen on another bird.

I am REALLY enjoying the 600mm equivalence I'm getting with the GH4 + Nikon 300mm f2.8 manual focus lens. This was one of my first flight images I tried taking with it. It's uncropped, and the 1000mm of my digiscoping system would have been too much to get the whole bird in the frame. I usually try to shoot with the sun at my back, but in this shot it was at the bird's back and I love that you can see his wing bones through his feathers. I was also getting much faster shutter speeds than I would have gotten with the scope.
My video entry for the digiscoper of the year contest of this year. There was very little time for editing, but I'm happy with the result. Got really lucky because of the marsh harrier that suddenly dropped by. I have some nice shots of that visitor coming up too, it was one the finest moments of a raptor really close. It must have known I was there, or least suspected something..
We hired a man with a mechanical harvester to do some work in our swamp in January of 2016, and again this past January. My husband has been doing this work by hand, cutting up our floating islands and then dragging the thick, cut sections into piles – it is VERY labor intensive work. During periods of drought, air gets trapped in the dried swamp bottom, and then when the swamp fills again the trapped air causes large sections to pop to the surface, and then vegetation grows on it, choking out the open water. David worked for about 5-6 days this year, and you can see just how much he can clear out with that incredible piece of machinery. The gator in my Jan. 18th video was sunning on one of the piles that my husband had created. He was using it almost every day, so we figured out exactly where his favorite spot was, marked it, and had David leave that one pile just for him. Our gator has a great view of the rookery now, and shows up around noon each day and suns for most of the afternoon.

Digiscoped. One of my favorites of the series actually. The dark/grey background of the heavy rain changed the atmosphere dramatically within 10 minutes. It makes a nice contrast with the happily colored bee eaters.
