Testing the Panasonic GH4 and Leica DG Nocticron 42.5mm lens on a wander round Nottingham. Such a nice camera and lens to use, I will talk more about it soon on a blog post: PhotoOomph.com and links to a video test on Youtube will be on there too.

The theme for this week's macro Monday is "a-peeling to me" - so I asked myself: how can I show macro bells, peeling?
It wasn't till later that I - lexicaly challenged - realised I'd hit a homonym mistaking peel for peal.
If you will accept the liberation from spelling:
This photo is an attempt to imply movement - and the bells really dit tinkle when shook.
so
#strobist notes: used an LP180 with honl traveller 8 to camera left with the diffuser barely turned towards bells. Triggered by off-camera (gh4 w 30mm macro) flash
I then left the shutter open pretty long - gave the bells a shake, snapped as they slowed down - flash fires a la Joe mcnally 2nd curtain.
again apologies for "sounds like" interpretation rather than lexical accuracy.
does this image kinda suggest bells a pealing? that may be appealing? without peeling?
How good is the still image quality from 4K video with the Lumix GH4? See for yourself. This is a good example of those moments where 4K capture is perfect for aquiring great portraits of the little ones at home. My little 3 year old is so fast, and would turn around in a blink. Capturing the rare moments when she is totally undistracted is not helped by a clappering shutter of a clunky DSLR. This frame was grabbed in camera from a short 4K clip, any frame can be saved to JPEG during playback. I used continous AF with face detection, and it spotted her eyes the whole time. Picture profile: Cinelike V, Contrast 0, Sharpness -5, Noise Reduction -5, Saturation -2, Hue +2, Highlight/Shadow +/-0, iResolution Standard, Master ped +10, Luma 0-255. Lens: Lumix G 12-35/2.8 at 12mm, f/2.8. ISO: Auto
