The Scrub Tanager is a common open country bird of the Colombian and Ecuadorian Andes. Due to its preference for scrub and bushy areas, it is most easily found in dry intermontane ‘rainshadow’ valleys but is expanding into more humid areas in the wake of human disturbance.

The Scrub Tanager is identified by its silvery greenish plumage, rust-colored cap and black mask. In further contrast to this typically gregarious genus, the Scrub Tanager most often is encountered as solitary pairs.

This further shot of the endangered Iberian Lynx shows it with its black tipped tail raised.Mainly nocturnal and handsomely spotted, they have long cheek whiskers and tufted ears and are smaller than the Lynx from northern Europe, being up to 30Kg. in weight compared with about 38Kg in the northern species. Its main food consists of rabbits and ducks.

Further below, half-way down the slope, new houses were built. At first these new settlements consisted of a single farmstead. But soon the number of inhabitants in these new places also increased and additional houses were built: according to their needs, they constructed new farmsteads close to the existing ones. The houses did not stand in a row at a shared road, but grouped together randomly. These random collections of farmsteads are called Weiler (hamlets). Even when a Bergisches hamlet is large, consisting of 20 or more houses, it is still different from a village today. Namely, the church is missing, meaning that hamlets do not form their own parishes.

Going back through old photos again. I do miss having a plan to go out further than just a few miles.

A Farmhouse just off the great ridge near Mam Tor. I would like to think think the residents have only seen a handful of people during the lock down but i doubt it.

Possibly due to problems further up the track an unscheduled train ran Southbound with a loading of mainly empty flat wagons bound for Brighton Hub. There was no sign of the paper train or even train 36 at Brighton Hub. The loading for the evening's log train was enginless at the freight yard and there was no sign of any activity. However TR units 11 + 01 did give me an opportunity to shoot the train in this nice colourful spot approaching the Hub at Brighton. Rarely is the scenery this green in this area.

Amtrak train 79 is seen as they glide over the small bridge just outside of the Thomas Jefferson Memorial in the Tidal basin. Amtrak P42DC number 13 is on point of the train as they soon will be in Alexandria and points further south.

Further tests of my pin up project.. I am much happier with this process than my last.

The Sumela Monastery, which stands on the foot of a steep cliff facing the Altındere Valley in the region of Maçka in Trabzon Province, Turkey, is popularly known as “Meyem Ana” (The Virgin Mary). The building complex is nearly 300 meters high and was built following the tradition of monasteries that were located outside the cities in forests near cave and source of water. The elevation of the Monastery is about 1350 meters.

The Monastery, founded in honor of the Virgin Mary, took the name of “Sumela” which derives from “Melas,” meaning black. Although it is thought that it has taken this name from the mountains, the Karadağlar (Black Mountains), on which it stands, it could also be associated with the black color of the icon of the Virgin Mary.

According to tradition, the Monastery was founded by two priests called Barnabas and Sophronius who came from Athens during the reign of the Emperor Theodousius I (AD 375 - 395). Then, in the 6th century, it was restored by the General Belisarius at the behest the Emperor Justinian who wanted it to be enlarged and restored.

The Monastery reached its final, present form in the 13th century. It gained importance during the reign of Alexios III (1349 - 1390) of the Comnenian Empire of Trabzon, which had been established in 1204. Its income was assured from imperial funds. During the time of Manuel III, son of Alexios III, and the reigns of later princes, Sumela gained further wealth from new imperial grants.

During the 18th century, many parts of the Monastery were restored and the walls were decorated with frescoes. In the 19th century, the Monastery took on an impressive appearance with the addition of larger buildings. This was the Monastery’s heyday and it attracted many foreign travelers who mentioned it in their writings.

The large building with a balcony on the front part of the cliff was used for the monks’ cells and as a guesthouse, it dates to 1860.

Deseret Peak, at least to my eye on this monitor, is still slightly visible in this photo over the spine of the Oquirrh Mountains.

The LDS General Conference was to begin the next morning across the street from the Salt Lake Temple which is clearly recognizable with its six characteristic spires below. If you're interested taking a closer look in that area will yield a very clear idea of the layout of downtown Salt Lake City.

How to include the tree in silhouette on the right was a tough decision for me. I decided my best route was to give some meaningful sense of where this photograph was taken. Moving further left I quickly lost the context that made it a great environment in my view to begin with. It creates a somewhat unusual feel for me but still I decided it worked for my own taste.

Completed in 1810 by John Rennie, the spectacular Dundas Aqueduct carries the Kennet & Avon Canal over the River Avon and is a Scheduled Monument. It was the first canal structure to be designated as a Scheduled Ancient Monument in 1951.

Named after Charles Dundas, the first chairman of the Kennet and Avon Canal Company, the aqueduct forms the junction between the Kennet and Avon Canal and the largely derelict Somerset Coal Canal. The short stretch of the Somerset Coal Canal still in water forms Brassknocker Basin, used for boat moorings, cycle hire and a cafe. A short walk further there is the Dundas Wharf where the small tollhouse, warehouse and crane still stand.

The Church and Convent of Santo Domingo is a Catholic temple built in the Historic Center of the city of Quito.

Its construction began in 1540, with a temporary chapel. Later, the construction of the temple that persists to the present day began in 1581, concluding the works of the church in 1688.

The temple is covered with works in cedar with gold leaf, and by numerous paintings and carvings that adorn its interior. Along with the main altarpiece, the ten side chapels that complete the interior of Santo Domingo further enrich the internal body of the church with beautiful works in wood and gold leaf.

Of the former grandeur of the church remains the splendid Mudejar roof, the most beautiful of its kind in the architecture of Quito.

The richest and best known of the chapels in the church of Santo Domingo is the Chapel of the Rosary, which is located on the south side of the transept and is built on three different levels. This chapel looks out onto the old street of La Loma (today called Rocafuerte), where, to overcome another unevenness of the terrain, the architects built the Arch of Santo Domingo, with cone-shaped buttresses evoking lookout posts.

The Voorstraat Harbor is the oldest port in Dordrecht, straight through the historic center of the city. In many places in the city you have beautiful views over the water. Dordrecht originated on the Thure stream, the later Voorstraat Harbor. In the past, you could moor at several locations in the Voorstraat harbor to load or unload your merchandise. Dordrecht was granted staple rights in 1299, which resulted in enormous economic growth. Staple right meant that many goods transported on the Lek and Merwede had to be marketed in Dordrecht before being transported further.

This heralded the Golden Age of Dordrecht (1350 – 1450). The stack made Dordrecht a hub of trading activities. Goods were traded and consumed from all parts of the world.

When the Voorstraat harbor became too small, other harbors were dug. The Voorstraat harbor is special because it runs under the town hall and under the Scheffersplein! No fewer than 7 bridges have been built over the port: the Leuve Bridge, the Pelser Bridge, the Lombard Bridge, the Vis Bridge, the Tol Bridge, the Wijn Bridge and the New Bridge. On each of these bridges you have a unique view over part of the harbour! After the Wine bridge, the Voorstraat haven turns into the Wine harbor.

#DutchAngle

Please press "Z" :)

A very unusual (for me) MM contribution in quite a few ways, because it is a photo that I have neither taken at home nor specifically for the "dutch angle" theme – this fluffy feather was a chance discovery at last Wednesday's (fabuloutastic, I should add) photowalk at the Olympic stadium; I didn't even think about the theme when I found this pretty feather in a corner of a step of one of the many, many staircases there. And of course this isn't the photo from that walk that I'd planned to upload first, either ;-). But often things don't turn out as expected (something which happens a lot lately when it comes to MMs), and that's not always a bad thing.

This small feather, about 6 cm / 2,3 inches long, came to my rescue when my original idea didn't work out – which every way I tried to make it work (it was a small spoke reflector which I'd once found in the street; the idea was to capture its distorted reflection which made it look like a flowing piece of honeycomb, something that came to my mind because of the reflector's honeycombed structure; well, to make it short, I never managed to get the distorted reflection sharp enough so it would be pleasant to look at; maybe I can still make it work later... I also tried to magnify those honecomb patterns inside of the reflector by using the extension tubes and the Raynox DCR-250 close-up lens – but, no, it wasn't meant to work).

But back to my "Olympic feather": Most conveniently, I had already taken it at a dutch angle (Mr Freud, can you hear me?). It is a single handheld picture taken with the Ricoh (the GRIII rocks!) which I've sharpened in Topaz Sharpen AI, and then further processed it in Nik's HDR Efex Pro – I started with the "En Vogue" preset "Cool Deep" which I'd then still tweaked a little here or there. And because the staircase I'd found this feather on had been in a shadowy corner of the stadium (and the feather in an even more shadowy corner of the step), the DNG outcome was rather dull; to add some much needed light I went into ON1 where I added a "Sunflare" texture filter to the upper left corner of the image; back in LR I added the preset "Soft Fog" and tweaked the luminosity and saturation sliders for a dreamy look.

HMM, Everyone, stay safe and healthy!

Thank you to each and every follower. 200 might not seem a lot to many people but for me it is huge. It is giving me confidence to continue this hobby and hopping to take it further. Hugs and love to all!

American Bison

The American Bison or simply Bison (Bison bison), also commonly known as the American Buffalo or simply Buffalo, is an American species of Bison that once roamed North America in vast herds. Its historical range, by 9000 BC, is described as the Great Bison Belt, a tract of rich grassland that ran from Alaska to the Gulf of Mexico, east to the Atlantic Seaboard (nearly to the Atlantic tidewater in some areas) as far north as New York and south to Georgia and, according to some sources, further south to Florida, with sightings in North Carolina near Buffalo Ford on the Catawba River as late as 1750. It nearly became extinct by a combination of commercial hunting and slaughter in the 19th century and introduction of bovine diseases from domestic cattle. With a population more than 60 million in the late 18th century, the species was down to just 541 animals by 1889. Recovery efforts expanded in the mid-20th century, with a resurgence to roughly 31,000 wild Bison today, largely restricted to a few national parks and reserves. Through multiple reintroductions, the species is now also freely roaming wild in some regions in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, with it also being introduced to Yakutia in Russia.

Photograph, of our snowy village bowling green, it was taken on our daily morning walk through the village heading towards Cowbury Dale. Lockdown three restricts our ability to go much further than is required for exercise – unless you selfishly choose to do so. Fortunately we are blessed with fantastic views and walks around our village of Carrbrook.

I have a very similar photo to this one which was taken within about 45 mins I think. This one is further up. It's quite a sombre photo I I like it all the same.

The petals of some yellow flower,, deliberatly shot out of focus and selectively softened further in post. Sharpness is overrated.

Enjoy!

¡Que paséis un feliz, tranquilo y agradable día, tarde y noche, querid@s amig@s!

My favorite time to be on the beach is when the tide is coming in. Bulging waves roll up further and further, until they overtake the dry sand. They bring with them treasures from the deep. It’s exciting when the ocean leans forward to say hello, as it were.

Contrary to every instinct, we spend most of our modern lives trapped in square boxes, whether in vehicles or buildings, and also in mental boxes, and we languish in our prison of stasis. There, we obsess about power struggles. Could it be because we have cut ourselves off from the experience of nature’s power?

The tide is coming in. Plump waves are rolling up the beach. Tidda responds. She becomes animated. She feels the spirit of the sea rising and we both feel the energy. The breath of life enters us. My mood lifts. I laugh and feel playful. We have stepped into nature’s flow of power. When the tide rises, all rise together. When it sinks, all sink together.

Further visit with friend Munier to Red Moss NR but disappointed with the number of Dragonflies and Damselflies that we saw. We were leaving when we saw this one on a soft rush stem. Probably not flying because of injured wing. This is 13 images focus bracketed in camera then focus stacked in Helicon Focus Pro.

further impressions from

a fleeting moment at the retiro park—where a pigeon takes flight, carving its path against the moody sky. the feathers stretch wide, catching the light, each edge outlined in quiet strength. the blurred waters and distant monument dissolve into whispers of the background, letting the bird own the frame. here, in black and white, is motion frozen and yet alive. it’s a pause before the air carries it further, leaving only a memory in its wake.

Bristol Falls

Bristol Falls Park is a lovely little place to visit in downtown Bristol, NH. It's a fairly recent reclamation project, only being open for a few years.

After walking the trail for a while (it runs along the Pemigewasset River for quite some distance), I returned back up the trail to the falls. I find that coming back on a feature from a different direction can provide a unique perspective. This perspective is further altered by giving it the Monochrome treatment for this capture.

This shot of the falls was taken hand held.

Saheliyon-ki-Bari (Courtyard of the Maidens) is a major garden and a popular tourist space in Udaipur in Indian state of Rajasthan. It lies in northern part of the city and has fountains and kiosks, a lotus pool and marble elephants. It was built by Maharana Bhopal Singh. Saheliyon ki Bari means Garden of the Maidens. There is also a small museum here.

Sahelion Ki Bari' was laid for a group of forty-eight young women attendants who accompanied a princess to Udaipur as part of her dowry. The gardens set below the embankment of the Fateh Sagar Lake have beautiful lotus pools, marble pavilions and elephant- shaped fountains. These fountains are fed by the water of the lake gushing through ducts made for the purpose. Each water channel has its distinct sound and the mingling of these sounds complement the ambience of the place Near to saheliyon-ki-bari is burhani nagar and burhani masjid, vidhiya bhawan school and seva mandir marg.

Saheliyon Ki Bari is one the most beautiful gardens and a major tourist destination in Udaipur. The garden is famous for its lush green lawns, marble art and fountains. English translation of Saheliyon Ki Bari means "Garden of maids". This renowned garden is located on the banks of Fateh Sagar Lake, presenting a green retreat in the dry lands of Rajasthan. Garden of maids was built in the 18th century by Maharana Sangram Singh for the royal ladies.

As per the legends, the garden was designed by the king himself and he presented this garden to his queen. Actually, the Queen was accompanied by 48 maids in her marriage. To offer all of them, pleasurable moments away from the political intrigues of the court, this garden was made. This patterned garden used to be the popular relaxing spot of the royal ladies. The queen with her maids and female companions used to come here for a stroll and spend their time in leisure.

Due to this fact, the garden got its name. The superb architecture of the garden provides a breath-taking view to any observer. The garden is embellished with numerous fountains in its four water pools, chiseled kiosks and marble elephants. It is also celebrated for its lotus pool and bird-fountains. The lush green lawns, flowerbeds, and marble pavilions further enhance the romantic ambience of this magnificent garden.

In the later years, Maharana Bhopal Singh really liked this place and built a pavilion of rain fountains. The thought was to form an illusion of rain dancing in cadence with dancing maids. The Kings used to enjoy around the pools and fountains of this garden. These fountains were imported from England and you can trace them along with the main reservoir of the garden. The main reservoir has four black marbled kiosks in its corners and one white marbled kiosk in its center. On the top of kiosks, these fountains are in the form of sculpted birds that spurts water from their beaks producing the rain effect.

The museum exhibiting the huge collection of royal households is another attraction of this garden. It has many ancient pictures and things of the bygone period. Sight of stuffed cobras and other animals will definitely add a tint of adventure to your trip. Above all, you can stroll through the shady lawns, where the bunch of bougainvillea will bend down to greet you. Today, Saheliyon ki Bari has become the pleasure park for the recreation of Udaipur dwellers.

Garden of Maids is actually a place to visit by any visitor to this city. The crystalloid fountains, lotus pool, marbled elephants sprinkling water and many more attractions provide truly a picturesque sight to behold.

Further vista on picturesque LBJ redwood grove trail in northern California. This grove rests near the top of a ridge in Redwood National Park, more than 1,000 feet from sea level. The moist conditions and the extra rain brought by the elevation causes the redwoods in this grove to look less red than trees of that sort found elsewhere on the North Coast.
