"Muy funk"
Esta noche llueve en Lisboa. Llueve, para un rato y vuelve a empezar..., lleva haciéndolo así casi toda la tarde noche y Ranjit, un muchacho hindú que vive aquí, en esta ciudad, coloca unos plásticos en el suelo y dobla sus pañuelos con cuidado y con cada oportunidad que le da el tiempo para poder trabajar y ganar algo de dinero. Hablamos en inglés mientras dobla sus telas, su voz es dulce y delicada, es un inglés con la cadencia de la lengua hindú que hace que la conversación sea agradable y sosegada. Me cuenta que todo está muy difícil para poder vivir pero que tanto él como su familia lo van haciendo como pueden, van tirando. Su padre tiene una pequeña tienda alquilada en la Rua de Sao Joao que es una zona de paso y muy comercial. Les va bien. Además, Ranjit, me comenta que le gusta vivir en Lisboa, es una buena ciudad, cómoda y con gente muy agradable, te ayudan siempre que pueden, dice. Hay siempre muchos turistas y esto también hace mas fácil la venta y de paso la vida. Ranjit, sonríe constantemente, no para de sonreír, es muy agradable estar con él conversando.
De nuevo se pone a llover, Ranjit recoge rápido y se pone a cubierto en un momento. Se mete deprisa en el portal de una tienda que tiene al lado y allí seguimos hablando.
Cuando para de llover vuelve a hacer lo mismo..., así una y otra vez...
Ranjit dobla con delicadeza sus telas sobre unos plásticos encima de un suelo mojado y delante de un cubo de basura verde con una pintada funky. Ranjit, cuando para de llover, aprovecha la luz que sale del escaparate de la tienda que tiene al lado porque le da mucha mas presencia a las telas y resalta todos los colores de sus pañuelos de la India. Sus telas han viajado desde allí a las calles de Lisboa en busca de turistas para buscarse la vida. Como él, como su familia.
Y mientras dobla sus telas me despido de Ranjit y él, con elegancia y sin prisa, me despide con una de sus mejores sonrisas...

Grupos como Cacique´97, The Sweet Vandals, The haggis horns quintet, Juan Rozoff o el DJ Nickodemus (NY), nos hicieron bailar a todos los presentes.

Been a while since I posted anything. Basically decided I needed a break from photography for a while. End of year exhibition took alot out of me, not that it was hard but changed the entire way I looked at photography, and when I left college I tried to force myself to continue in b&w along the same lines but found myself slipping into a funk.
I got into fitness and only recently picked back up the camera. Decided to go with a Fuji Pro 160S color/film using Exposure. Always loved it muted but strong colors.

Cory Henry est le nouveau phénomène des claviers. Organiste, pianiste, compositeur, arrangeur, le claviériste des Snarky Puppy revisite les classiques de la soul et du funk avec une énergie communicative. Il forge un son totalement novateur aux confins du gospel, du funk et du jazz. À moins de 30 ans, il peut déjà revendiquer une longue carrière, marquée par des collaborations avec Kenny Garrett, Lalah Hathaway, The Roots, Bruce Springsteen... Reconnu pour son jeu d’orgue aux harmonies très riches, il puise son inspiration dans le jeu virtuose des pianistes Art Tatum ou encore Oscar Peterson. Les figures de Jimmy
Smith, Marvin Gaye ou encore Prince ne sont jamais loin. Il capte
l’essence même du jazz et du gospel et crée, à partir de ces deux composantes, une musique rayonnante au service du lyrisme et d’une grande construction narrative. En concert Cory Henry and The Funk Apostles enchaînent les grooves funk mêlés aux influences électriques de la soul, du jazz fusion et de l’électro.
