When I was reviewing my images of my day out at Winchester I noticed that, while doing the interior shots in Winchester Cathedral, I noticed that the images had a slight red cast to them. I had left the custom setting to Portrait Mode. So I decided to do a test on a brick wall. I used three settings for the test: Bright, Natural and Portrait Modes.

PORTRAIT according to the Operating Manual, produces healthy bright skin tones, which tended to redden the wall image. But it is very good for street photography.

Yesterday was one of these "I can't get into first gear days". I left my appartment around 10.30am and was talking to my friend Debbie on the phone while walking to the subway. I thought 'hmm something's weird'...but couldn't put my finger on it. Just as I am about to walk down the steps into the subway (I walked 4 blocks), I look down and see that I am wearing two different shoes. I bursted out laughing (at myself). May I say that one of these shoes has a heel, the other doesn't? HA!

That is a drawer style microwave by Dacor in the island. The microwave drawer is my fave appliance these days. It's easy to use, safe and tucked out of the direct line of sight. With todays wall mounted TVs this is all you need. This client wanted to store as many books as possible. I think we succeeded. A study in lines and light. This tram signal in Oostende becomes something more—a glowing digital display, framed by the soft geometry of the station’s colourful canopy. Function meets form in a moment of photographic design.

Photographic Stories on Urban Form

I’ve always been drawn to the shapes and patterns of cities—how a curve meets a corner, how old stone sits quietly beside something new and bold. These photos are moments I noticed while walking, pausing, and looking just a little longer than usual.

Some scenes are simple: a doorway, a reflection, a patch of colour. Others feel like two buildings having a conversation across time. What they all have in common is that they stopped me in my tracks, made me want to frame them and share the feeling.

This series isn’t about architecture in a technical sense—it’s about the everyday poetry of urban spaces. It’s about noticing. And maybe, if I’ve done it right, it invites you to notice a little more too.

This image of the glomeruli, proximal tubules, and distal tubules of fetal sheep kidneys was taken via immunohistochemistry with fluorescence. Red fluorescence indicates the Angiotensin-II (AT2R) receptor, whereas the green fluorescence indicates megalin, a scavenger protein that carries other receptors into the cell. Colocalization is indicated by yellow fluorescence, meaning that the two receptors are at the same place at the same time. Sheep are a commonly used model for reduced space in the uterus on offspring, so images such as this aid our research into kidney development and function under the condition of intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR), where the fetus does not grow to his/her potential. IUGR is important to study because it can cause kidney dysfunction and high blood pressure during childhood and young adulthood. These images aid in our exploration of potential preventative measures and treatments for kidney dysfunction and high blood pressure in previously IUGR humans.
