Young ladies having fun on the boat on the Canal St Martin

Construction of the canal was ordered by Napoleon I in 1802, in order to create an artificial waterway for supplying Paris with fresh water to support a growing population and to help avoid diseases such as dysentery and cholera.

Gaspard de Chabrol, prefect of Paris, proposed to build a canal from the river Ourcq (starting 100 km northeast of Paris). The canal was dug from 1802 to 1825, funded by a new tax on wine. The canal was also used to supply Paris with food (grain), building materials, and other goods, carried on canal boats. Two ports were created in Paris on the canal to unload boats: Port de l'Arsenal and Bassin de la Villette.

By the 1960s, traffic had dwindled to a trickle and the canal narrowly escaped being filled in and paved over for a highway. Today, the canal is covered from Rue du Faubourg du Temple to the Place de la Bastille.

In late December 2006, 350 tents were put on the Canal Saint-Martin by the NGO Les Enfants de Don Quichotte, in support of the "right to lodging" (Droit

au logement

). The NGO invited well-lodged people to sleep a night in the tent, alongside homeless people. The NGO Médecins du monde (MDM) had taken the initiative, in 2005, to give tents to all homeless people in Paris, in order to provide them with minimal privacy and to make misery visible. But the prefecture of police, under orders of Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy, was progressively expelling homeless people camping in Paris. Thus, the Enfants de Don Quichotte's action attracted attention to this expulsion. In the context of the 2007 presidential election, Jacques Chirac announced that the "opposable right to lodging" would be enacted into law before the end of his term.

Boy you are about to get ambushed!

Wishing everyone a blessed Christmas and a peaceful New Year! Jesus is the reason for the season ....

This is actually one of a pair of fun ear-rings!

Happy Monochrome Monday! I took this cliche shot of our youngest son pretending to climb the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Took sbout a dozen snaps to get one close. It would have been easier to photosho it! :-)

As always was a pleasure to visit and enjoy the geishas company. I was lucky because their events are when I'm working, so yesterday I couldn't lose the chance.

Here with the lovely Toshiha. I think this time I drank too much sake.

On our last night in Longboat Key, Florida, we just grabbed our cameras and walked down the beach. We had so much fun taking pictures of these Brown Pelicans fishing.

I couldn't let Sunday pass without sharing the fun with Photoshop's Generative Fill I had today. I used Generative Fill to dismiss several logs on the right side of the basalt cliff where the falls drop, added some interest to the foreground water and as the coup de grace, added two figures jumping into the falls on the left. Generative fill works pretty well for inanimate objects but it's ability to do people is a spectacular failure! Those people are pretty scary; they're good for Halloween decor. They are too large as well as the falls drop is 43 feet.

I was inspired to add the jumpers because I read this fall is popular on social media as a place to film your friends jumping into the plunge pool. If you are curious about the number of logs removed, go look at the photo I posted looking down at the falls, three frames back.

Happy Slider Sunday!

I needed a photo of Norway for a project, so was going through my archives and found this. Fun with boat wake maybe? They ended up going with a different image, but I had fun giving this one a new crop.

Er is een gezamenlijk programma voor de leerlingen van de Grundel en de leerlingen van de KFC school. Traditionele dansen, een sketch hoe een dag van een Nederlandse scholier eruit ziet. Het zorgt voor veel plezier en hilariteit

Being alone doesn't mean lonely and having no fun ... Sometimes it feels good to be alone and do what you want, when you want and give yourself space, you agree ?

Has been sharing his trip to see the Ansel Adams and Max Dupain Photo exhibition.

There is something deeply moving in richly printed B&W photos, and it has been a long time since i dipped a finger in a bromide solution.

When I first saw the Galah against the dark shadowed backdrop, I wondered if it would work in mono.

It takes more than just dropping out the saturation in PS, so I opened up in NIk SilverFX Pro.

A touch of a blue filter, to get some gradient in the pinks, pulling down the black to Zone 1 and letting the crest go out to Zone 10.

(Nik has a Zone System window for use. More for marketing than practicality, but it feels good).

What beat me was getting the Max Black down to Zone 0. I'll just have to mix some more D23a developer. :-)

I miss you all.. I still have few sessions to edit and that is taking all my time..

Thanks for the letting me know your birthday.. lots of cakes coming right up;)

The time for freedom and endless fun. The holidays are our only time to excuse ourselves from the busy world. Never is there a better time to visit family, explore unseen sights, relax at the beach, or even pursue your favourite hobbies. Dawdling at home would not maximise the amount of bliss the summer provides, as sooner than later, the holidays would have gone by, and the demanding year would start again.

So, the message is clear, don't waste the holidays. Go out, do something new, embrace the freedom, and enjoy the holiday fun. Because there may not be any other moment in the future to enjoy such liberties... (Especially within the current conditions of 21st century!)

Macro Mondays. Pasta

My fun take on Pasta

I used orecchiette, farfalle, rotelle, spaghetti, and tiny rotelle pasta to make this little picture.

I still have paint and super glue on my hands, probably until next week.
