De Stowe School omvat het Stowe House en gebouwen van Stowe die ongeveer 200 hectare in beslag nemen. Pulled over into a wide spot in the Mojave Desert for a lunch break. Some where in between Bakersfield & Barstow, California

we got back to ny just in time for much colder temperatures, freezing rain and sleet. we had to pay $10 - $12 per day to park the RV in a parking lot - it would have cost a minimum of $50 per night to park in an RV park or campground anywhere near the area. it was damp and cold, we paid $4/gallon for gas at the nearest filling station, and strangers were brusque, when they weren't downright rude. with the pleasant exception of catching up with some friends and family, this part of the trip was an excellent reminder of many of the reasons we left.

Campgrounds surrounding Yosemite National Park often fill up as fast as those within the park. Many of these Inyo National Forest Camps are on a first come basis, so they do fill up on weekends.

our neighbors were in the same model motor home, only a few feet longer and about 20 years younger

this rest area appeared both on our atlas and the gps, but had very obviously been out of service for some time, with grass growing through what little faded blacktop remained on the decaying pull-through. even so, it was getting late, there was not a closure or no-trespassing sign, and it was a truly lovely, quiet spot, so we spent the night.
