The last of the Clyde built DL class, DL50 swaps empty fuel tanks for loaded tanks at Birkenhead Port Adelaide on 1-9-14 before taking them to the AFT, with 8121 leading back.

The tanks will be later transported to Alice Springs on GWA's Darwin intermodal service

Due to years of sitting, the top of the fuel tank rusted. A replacement was found locally. This is my father removing the original tank.

Fuel storage in front of a volcano in Antarctica. It was about an hour snowmobile ride to get out to this area at the airport. It's kind of a crazy airport because there are no real runways and planes just land right on the ice with skis. #antarcticanz #antarctica

I was recently in California at an intersection that I once passed very frequently and found that an Iwatani hydrogen refueling facility had been added at this 76 station that has been located here for many decades. I don’t know why but if I search for hydrogen refueling in this area, this facility doesn’t appear.

On Westminster Boulevard at Seal Beach Boulevard.

Knowing the hummingbirds usually leave about the first week of October, I decided to see if I could grab some shots this afternoon.

No sooner had I approached my "blind" than this female Ruby-throated Hummingbird flew up to the feeder.

Not sure if she saw me, but over the next thirty minutes or so, she saw and chased hummingbird after hummingbird away from HER feeder. She was staked out in the nearby camellia bush to keep a very close eye on all trespassers.

Taken through the backdoor window so not as clear as I'd like.

A block train of diesel fuel [UN 1202] rumbles through Velký Osek in September 2023 in the care of ČD Cargo 363 506. The (CDC) international freight 44329 from Pirna Gbf , Germany to Valašské Meziříčí in the Zlin Region of the Czech Republic had previously worked south through Germany as the Freight 95732 Hamburg Hohe Schaar to Pirna Gbf.

Thanks to the FMi member who kindly confirmed the identity of this freight working.

Curtiss C-46R Commando (c/n 273/CK250)

Everts Air Fuel

Fairbanks-International (FAI/PAFA)

24 June 1986

Delivered to the USAF as a C-46A in 1945 shortly before the end of WWII, this Commando soon became surplus, and was sold to the civil market. Circa 1958 it was converted to a C-46R, and after countless operators, it was eventually registered as N7848B, and leased by Everts Air Fuel in 1985.

It was seen at its base, titleless and in an all-silver finish, ready to be towed to the hangar after arriving on a flight earlier in the day.

The Commando continued with Everts delivering fuel to remote communities not linked to the state road system, and recent photos suggest that it is still active with Everts Air Fuel, now named 'Dumbo' and based at Kenai, and turning a proud 80 this year!

The Forest Service for sometime now, has been gathering up fallen and semi-burnt wood and burning it as a measure against future fires. Seen in Yosemite Valley, not far from the base of El Capitan. Good Practice.

Whilst out walking my dog at lunchtime in the drizzle, I came across this fuel spill on the cycle path near my home.

I love the colours and the abstract nature of this! It reminds me of the fractals from the Mandelbrot set from the early 90s...

I'm sure the only reason I grabbed this shot in 1983 is because it involved two SDP40s and their unique square ends, infrequent visitors to Superior. Upon closer inspection these two (6397/6398) were participating in early testing of BN's fuel tender program. Note the yellow and black hose on the rear pilot of each unit for transferring fuel out of a tank car. I'm not sure if that tank car behind 6398 was part of the test, but it appears to have an extra hose in addition to a standard air hose. Now I only wish I had paid a bit more attention and walked around for a better angle.
