I guess the line at the gas station is long enough so that drivers, to save fuel, turn the vehicles off and push them when the line moves forward. Geotag is very, very approximate. It was the end of a long day, almost a decade ago.
Photojournalism remains one of my photographic weaknesses, but I keep trying.
If you decide to travel along this highway into the bowels of the Universe, carry enough fuel to cover the billions of light years ahead of you. You won't find a place to refuel. When you have travelled this distance without finding anything, not even a little bit of intelligent life and you reach the far reaches of the Universe... don't be scared... there's nothing there, either. Only the "nothing". Or since everything is cyclical, perhaps you have returned to the place where you started, full of wisdom from your long trip. It's probably better to look for intelligent life on Earth, but it's also very likely that you'll have a hard time finding it. Don't worry about not understanding the Universe or the reason for its existence... you're not Einstein, but one day you'll understand that... The Universe is wounded, but it still has infinity ahead of it. It still has you and me. Merry Christmas to all and to the infinite Universe that is within you.
Gregory Alan Isakov - The Universe

Pink Floyd - Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Parts VIāIX
"Shine On You Crazy Diamond", was written as a tribute to Syd Barrett, one of the founders of Pink Floyd. He was also known as "The Crazy Diamond Syd". Barrett was a very creative musician and is considered one of the rock icons, with a strong influence on many artists, very especially to David Bowie. Syd Barrett is a key piece to understand the evolution of rock in the 70s.. Excessive drug use, especially LSD, caused him serious mental health problems. Syd Barrett died in 2006 at the age of 60. Always shine diamond.
The Universal is a science fiction song written as a tribute to two films by film director Stanley Kubrick. In the video, the Blur members wear outfits similar to Alex and his gang of thugs, the protagonists of the movie "A Clockwork Orange." The image used for the cover of the single alluded to what is possibly Kubrick's best film: "2001: To Space Odyssey."
We haven't changed that much in 300,000 years of evolution.

"Here am I floating 'round my tin can, far above the moon. Planet Earth is blue. And there's nothing I can do" (Major Tom)

Farm Fuel old gas pump on this farm, easier to have a source of fuel than drive the tractor to the station, found in North Carolina.
A photo of an old Mobile gas station at 831 West Street in Grinnell, Iowa that has now been re-purposed into a Mexican restaurant. You can't fill-up your car here, but you can get a side of beans that will cost you less than a gallon of gas.

The headgear of the last remaining underground fuel tank (POL21), at the easternmost end of Crookham Common. It has been kept as a reminder of the military legacy of the Commons. Up to eight million gallons of aviation fuel were stored at RAF Greenham Common.
The sky looked intriguing when returning to the tent after dinner at the campsite restaurant - then as we got closer to the tent, this boat became apparent when looking in between the sand dunes. So I ran off quickly with the tripod, camera and a dodgy head torch, almost falling down a steep dune in the dark - and this was after only one small glass of wine...
As fuel costs have risen dramatically over the last year; I like many others have taken to turning the heating down or off.
Its surprising how many extra layers of clothing you need when sitting in front of the computer and not moving much.
At least here in the UK its just cold as opposed to parts of the USA and Canada that are currently in the "deep freeze".
It's Thursday, so it is time for a truck. This one is a fuel truck abandoned high on a ridge. It is a leftover from the days when the area was logged years ago.
We have developed a tradition of hiking up to visit this truck after Thanksgiving. It is usually a somewhat miserable trip as a result of rain or snow. The weather fulfilled our expectations as it was cold, wet and windy.
Happy Truck Thursday!
Here's another oldie from the way back archives and the caption I originally wrote with it way back in the day on RP.net
The sun briefly pokes through the gray Alaska sky on this Saturday afternoon to illuminate a couple sets of SD70MACs reposing on the fuel racks just south of the sand tower adjacent the diesel shop. The 4001 is from ARR's first order having been build in 1999 while the flared radiator 4320 is from the 2004 order.

This year has been particularly smokey in southeast Utah. Fires belching smoke from California, Arizona, Colorado, and within Utah have kept us indoors several days. Last night as we drove in to Moab for groceries and pears to can, we noticed a fire crawling up the side of South Mountain, 3 miles from our house. It wasn't raging and the wind was fairly calm coming from the southwest which was a good sign. It was also burning up an alluvial fan that burned 7 years ago so there wasn't much fuel. There are still some smoke coming from the steep canyons, but no active fire is visible. I am thankful for my husband who has worked tirelessly the last couple of years to chop and mow a defensible space around our house amidst the dry, dry grasses and sagebrush. Sending out a global hug to all those who have been impacted by the disasters of flood, fire, earthquakes, and disease.
