Where is Spring?

After our recent cold snap, I headed out to a nearby waterfall (Hayward Falls, Mission, B.C.) and was pleasantly surprised at what I found.

Frozen leave

A frozen gazania flower from my garden

I had a day off and decided to go to the beach. When I arrived at the seashore after a 1.5 hour drive, it was freezing -13c, the wind was from the sea and the sun was shining from a cloudless sky, the weather was beautiful and bitterly cold. The icy beaches and rocks were really beautiful. I saw in my mind the hundreds of pictures that I could photograph during the day. But the weather was so cold that both me, my dog and my camera gradually froze like the landscape. We were on the beach for 3.5 hours, I made a campfire and made coffee and heated food for myself and my dog, but in the end I decided to go home, Helmi looked so miserable. I only managed to get a few good photos with a frozen camera and icy fingers. Sometimes I wonder what drives me to take photos despite the circumstances. Maybe you know that feeling too.

Hello Everyone!

Recently, Winnipeg awoke to another lovely vision of hoar frost despite the foggy conditions. I spotted some rosehips with lots of frost on their stems. This was the first time I've used the macro for ice and wish I'd increased the DoF, but I hope you can see the little feathers of frost along the stems. Hoping Mother Nature cooperates so that I can try again on a day that isn't so cold that I freeze solid!

Some moisture on my lens immediately froze when I left the house at -14 degrees celsius. So this effect wasn't planned for or created in post but I liked it enough to keep the image.

The sun had already disappeared behind the mountains, her last rays illuminating the clouds, whilst the snow-covered lake Hintersee lay untouched, as the evening starts to fall. I enjoyed this tranquil atmosphere on my own, as this location is normally rather busy.
