News of Boney M frontman Bobby Farrell’s death saddens me. I was 7 and living in Hong Kong when their huge hit Daddy Cool came out in 1978. My father loved their songs and I hated the group, probably because I was simply scared by people who didn’t look like "one of us". But, like many others, I grew into my dad’s mindset without even knowing. Recently I came across vintage footages of their performance and I simply fell in love with them!

Their catchy songs, music and lyrics are no longer scary. Their outfits and hairdos are still outrageous and crazy, but way cool! I now only wish that I can sing and dance like they did!

Phil Lynott, the charismatic frontman of the legendary rock band Thin Lizzy, left an indelible mark on the music world with his soulful voice, poetic lyrics, and magnetic stage presence. Born on August 20, 1949. Philo was raised in Dublin, Ireland, Phil's unique upbringing infused his music with a diverse range of influences.

A gifted songwriter and bassist, Phil co-founded Thin Lizzy in 1969, steering the band towards a fusion of hard rock, folk, and Celtic elements. His commanding stage presence and the way he wielded his bass guitar not only set Thin Lizzy apart but also became emblematic of the band's sound.

Phil's lyrical prowess painted vivid tales of love, loss, and the human condition. His words often resonated with a raw and emotional intensity, transcending the typical rock narrative. Songs like "Southbound" , "The Boys are Back In town" and "Whiskey in the Jar" showcased his storytelling genius, weaving narratives that captivated audiences around the world.

Despite Thin Lizzy's success, Phil faced personal struggles, grappling with the pressures of fame and the demands of the rock 'n' roll lifestyle. His battles with addiction and the complexities of fame added layers of depth to his lyrics, making them all the more poignant and relatable.

Tragically, Phil Lynott's journey was cut short when he passed away on January 4, 1986, at the age of 36. Today he rests with his mother Philomena in St Fintan's cemetery in Dublin, Ireland

His untimely death left a void in the music world, but his legacy lives on through the timeless music of Thin Lizzy. Phil's impact extended beyond the stage; he remains an enduring figure, celebrated for his artistry, authenticity, and the indomitable spirit that fuelled his music.

Phil Lynott's life and work continue to inspire generations of musicians and fans alike, a testament to the enduring power of his music and the profound emotions he conveyed through his art.

I talked my way past security so that i could get my 400D into the NIA, as you weren't allowed SLR in there without a photo pass, so i was very happy not only with the shot, but with the fact that i was one of the few who could have taken shots with an SLR that night

I like how the vibrant yellow lighting of the NIA has made the subject stand out,

I also like how the frontmans intensity has been caught in this shot, although Pettit is very intense at all times onstage, which doesnt make this shot a rarity, but it does guarantee a good shot each time i see Alexis in the future =]

"Good Vibes For Terri" - a benefit gig for 'godfather of punk' Terri Hooley. Terri founded the Good Vibrations record label and record store back in the 70s and had his life story told in the film of the same name in 2013.

Before Christmas 2014 Terri was taken ill and has been hospitalised for the forseeable future. Many of Terri's friends put together a benefit concert for him at the Limelight Belfast on Sunday 28 December 2014.

Photos taken with a Canon 600D DSLR. I decided to test out frankensteining the camera, shooting fully manual (for the mos part) with a 30 year old Pentacon 2.8/135 lens I hadn't touched in over a decade.
