My tomato plants are doing pretty well considering they almost died of dehydration. This might be the most tomatoes I've harvested. Usually it gets cold before they have a chance to turn red.

The Poquoson Farm Fresh has like the most complicated operating history ever: they originally operated for 17 years uninterrupted, but during the company's buyout by Richfood Holdings in 1997 the store (as well as a few other area locations) was given the boot for unknown reasons. They were gone "permanently" by January 1998- then about two weeks later a reopening was announced, go figure! So they spent about another 20 years in business. As the years went on the company was on a slippery slope and ended up pulling the plug in spring 2018, selling off select locations to Kroger, Harris Teeter, and Food Lion and shuttering whatever was left. The Poquoson location wasn't purchased by anyone so was vacated after liquidation. For almost four years the building just sat there untouched with no future plans for the space, but in November it was announced that independent operators Raphael Strumlauf and Mark Green, who already purchased and operate the Richmond Farm Fresh, would be reopening the store. A few months passed by and on Friday the store finally rereopened to much fanfare from the Poquoson community, whose only other choice of grocer was Food Lion. Naturally, this caught my attention and I had to come see the place for myself once again!
After the store's 2018 closure basically everything was left in place as-is, with no fixtures/signage being removed or sold off. This meant that the new owners had to do minimal work to the salesfloor, and it indeed does look almost the exact same as before. In fact, I only noticed three major operational changes: they opted not to keep the pharmacy and converted its' space to an expanded wine section, they added a Blanchard's Coffee Roasting Company stand in a chunk of the old floral space, and two checkout lanes were removed in favor of a self-checkout area. These all seem like reasonable and understandable decisions to me, and aside from that the other departments have been brought back to life as they were prior to 2018 . I wish this store the best since operating independently can be a challenge, but I have total faith in the Poquoson citizens to support this store for years to come!

This pattern has been haunting me… I rarely purchase solo patterns. But the proceeds went to a Make-a-Wish fundraiser. And I just love the pattern.
I really want to use the Inara colorway with it. But I don't have as much as the pattern calls for. I debated if I could tweak the pattern to make it work.
I saw on the Knit Girllls that Leslie made one with a 440 yard skein and still had some left over. So I hoped I might be able to do it with a single skein.
It isn't a hard pattern. The only tricky bits are the cross stitches. And that was only a bit tricky the first time as I kept feeling like I wasn't doing them correctly. But the numbers were right so I was good!
This is the first pattern I converted to an epub format. I really like that I can search & make notes as wanted. I also included the stitch count by row which is helpful.
Really loved the pattern. It is simple with enough going on to keep my interest. I think the yarn is a nice paring with it. It works beautifully with a highly variegated yarn like Inara.
Ordered the beads on 5/13. They arrived in time to truck on through the project.
Love the yarn a whole lot. The only catch seems to be that since it is a silk blend & not a super tight twist, I have to be careful with the cable crosses. A few times I have had to redo stitches to get a strand of the yarn over so it will work right. But all in all, I adored the yarn & the pattern together.
I can see making another My Hope. It is a great pattern. Pretty simple overall if I could keep my stitch count right. I tweaked the stitch count a couple times, but it is not a pattern where you notice unless it is a really obvious point. So I just try to make sure I have the right # at the start of the cable cross repeats and it is all good.

Finished row 97 & have 32 grams left. There are 113 rows & the beaded bindoff in the pattern. So that leaves 16 rows & the bindoff. Though given three of those rows require the triple wraps for the cable crosses, we shall have to see how it works out. Though Disneyette is a sweetheart & offered me some more Inara if I need it. So very kind of her!

Row 105 completed - so one cable cross of three down. 20 gms. 8 rows took 12 grams. Not sure how well that bodes for finishing all three cable crosses & bindoff. We shall see.

Got the second cable cross done & still had 12-14 gms. So I decided to go for the third. I figure that if needed, I have some more Kensington in the Carrie colorway. With the bead & the red in Inara, I figured I could use it for the bind off.
Finished everything but the bind off. I measured the edge, stretching it pretty tight. Seems to be 120" if I stretch. I have over three times that left in yardage, but just. Debating if it is better to play it safe with the bind off and use the Carrie. But also super tempted to try. Though I have read it takes hours to do the bead bind off. So it might be saner to just use the Carrie & be done with it… Decisions decisions.
Okay. Looked up about calculating the yardage needed for an edging. So I bound off 11 sts & measured. It was 16". I was figuring it was smarter to count that for 10 sts. So for the edge, I would need a little under 550". I only have a little over 360" (about 10 yards). So to avoid needing to pull back a beaded edge, I am using the Carrie in Kensington that I just got. The timing is perfect.

The beaded bind off took quite a while. But it is lovely.
I wish I could have eeked out the entire pattern in the one skein. But the pattern still underestimated the yardage. I was only about 5-10 yards shy of being able to finish it.
It is a stunning piece in the colorway. But so not my colors. If it wasn't Inara with silk, I would have never bought it. But it is truly stunning.

My Mom has often extolled the virtue of truly fresh pineapple, something I've never before experienced. Turns out that Nigeria is a big producer of pineapple; you could find it everywhere. And it truly is delicious fresh -- sweeter and less tart.
