Shot for the Rideau Valley Roller Girls 2013 Calendar.
Thanks to Saslove's in Ottawa for letting us use the space (and jump inside the meat counter) for the shots.
Strobist info: despite the cramped quarters, I was able to get a 60" softlighter at camera right and a 135cm midi octa boomed over the counter slightly at camera left. That gave me good light coverage of the ladies. Both had Elinchrom Ranger Quadra packs & heads.
A food shot for a change - a tray full of granny smith apples which I sprayed with water for that extra fresh look. Lit by natural daylight.

This location opened in April 1987 and closed in the 1990s; it was originally an A&P, which opened in 1975.
6/27/12 was the last Wednesday that Maria and I were at the Cutter Gallery while the Arlington Farmers Market was going on. It was quite a hot day that day and the market did a better business than previous Wednesdays. We did a lot better that day, too, as there were more people that came into the gallery, looked at my photographs and Maria's art work and signed our guest book than any previous Wednesdays.

Farm Fresh #6265 (52,915 square feet)
115 Norge Lane, Norge Crossing, Williamsburg, VA
This location opened in June 1994 and closed on October 9th, 2019. The left part of the building became The Kensington School in November 2021, the middle part remains vacant, and the right part became Chesapeake Bank Tech Center on May 1st, 2021.
And like that, I've now documented every Farm Fresh location on the peninsula. Hooray for me! This is important because the Farm Fresh brand may very soon be extinct: parent company SuperValu recently sold off the majority of these FF stores to Kroger/Harris Teeter and Food Lion, and those stores will be converted within the next few months. The future is unknown for the few stores that didn't get sold, such as the one pictured, but there are potential buyers looking into them. Those stores will most likely not be operating as Farm Fresh, though. Since I believe store closing sales began on Friday I'd like to shop at a few of these locations and get some interior shots before they're gone for good.
The document which gave birth to Super Fresh Food Markets in Philadelphia in June 1982, with a button and green apron from the early years. It was the first labor contract in the retail food industry that called for a company to share power and revenue with its employees, who were given a say in operations through Quality of Work Life meetings and an employee incentive program - in exchange for lower wages than industry standard. This allowed A&P to return here as a new entity with lower costs. Super Fresh gave new life to closed A&P stores here and put A&P people back to work with this agreement which created a spirit of co-operation.
The first Super Fresh Markets opened on July 14, 1982 at 5th and Pine Street and North Broad Street in progress Plaza in Philadelphia. Within a year 56 former A&P stores were reopened as Super Fresh Markets.
I went out and took a quick shot of the fresh layer of snow before bed. It is still snowing but it might all be gone later in the afternoon...

They were out to visit his parents together for the first time. I got a vivid idea how their day would end if that went well.

cutting. I took this shot back in Northern Wisconsin. I went for a walk on my Great Uncles old trapping line. He used to walk it every other day or so almost all winter long with Snowshoes. It is now a nature trail near a State Campground. But the Beaver, Mink, and Muskrats are still there.

It has been simply amazing to me, that after a very snowy month of May, the Alaskan wildflowers seemed to explode from the ground almost overnight. I saw this fresh fireweed in the bright morning sunshine and had to capture it. Ten days have passed since I took this shot - and now the flowers are half way up the stalk. Once the blossoms reach the top - it means there are only 6 weeks left until winter. At the rate they are growing this year, that could mean snow by the end of August! I am hoping that doesn't happen. Fingers are crossed for a loooong autumn instead. **(Best viewed large)

Trametes versicolor is the official name. The versicolor name is so true. I’ve seen blues, oranges, all manner of rusts and browns. These are some of the most fresh and turgid I have seen.
