Hellevoetsluis: Weather Photography
The fortifications of Hellevoetsluis are an important part of Dutch history. The fortress was built in the 17th century to protect the important naval port of Hellevoetsluis against enemy attacks.
The fortifications consist of fortification walls, the main defense works, made of sand and stone and are about 2 meters thick. The bastions are fortified projections of the fortress walls and ravelins, which are moats in front of the fortress walls. They make it difficult for enemy forces to reach the fortress walls.
The fortifications of Hellevoetsluis were never attacked, but they did play an important role in Dutch history. They were a symbol of Dutch power and an important protection for the naval port of Hellevoetsluis.
Today, the fortifications of Hellevoetsluis are a popular tourist attraction. They offer a unique glimpse into Dutch history and offer a beautiful view of the city and the surrounding area.

You know it…the road trip…searching for a place to stop for that drop dead amazing sunset….finally a place to stop…what to shoot and how to do it…ok meter that cool sky and cool backround…Check…Try and stand in the pic and look cool…Hummm
To dark…run and grab flash…first try….nope not fireing…second try…batteries are low..(goddamit)..stand closer…(fuck it’s cold and my nuts are freezing.. !!!
Third time is a charm……well almost..needed 2 flashes to make this work..only had 1 and i was cold and had enough….

The Tech Museum of Innovation, known as "The Tech" in downtown San Jose is a pretty cool, hands-on museum of science aimed primarily at children. It can be fun for adults too though. You see, in exchange for some opening night shots of the Christmas in the Park display, the event organizer arranged with The Tech to allow me to shoot from their rooftop. It was freezing cold and raining off and on but I had about two hours of total access to the roof of this huge building. I took advantage of it alternately taking shelter from the rain and running around to the various edges of the roof to shoot long exposures. It was finger-numbing bliss. :)
This long-exposure (non HDR) shot is straight out of the camera. It looks south toward down South Market Street toward the San Jose Marriott (attached to the McHenry Convention Center) and the historic Hotel Sainte Claire as Friday night traffic whizzes past.
During a recent severe cold spell that lasted several days, my backyard was like Grand Central Station. The birds were emptying the feeders in record time, and they were using the bushes outside my kitchen window as their staging area.
Usually when they see us at the kitchen sink they scatter, so getting shots through this particular window is rare. Today however they seemed to have other things on their minds.
