Tioranda Falls at Madam Brett Park in Beacon NY during the golden hour. With the torrential rains of last weekend followed by recent freezing temperatures the rush of water has created interesting ice formations on the rocks and vegetation.

After below freezing temperatures for the past couple of weeks I'm prepared for hotter days......

WAH are visiting People walking around with stuff on their head today.

We had more snow overnight. Freezing temperatures, power outages and no water.

Historic winter in Texas.

Utakleiv beach, one of the few places accessible by car on the north coast of the Lofoten islands, a pretty place, and a pretty windy place, the near freezing temperatures did not help, and the light contrast was too much for me, it started snowing soon afterwards even down to sea level.

Despite their delicate appearance, these little beauties are incredibly hardy. Surviving the indignities of snow and sub-freezing temperatures since emerging, these petals (here photographed in a light rain shower) look none-the-worse for wear.

Sunset panorama.

After two days of rain, sleet, snow and ice and now freezing temperatures the storm system cleared and we had a stunning sunset.

Night Flying Operations at Wittmund Airbase in Northern Germany.

Five Eurofighter Typhoon of the Tactical Air Force Wing 71 "Richthofen" conducted touch and goes and landing approaches at their homebase.

Night flying training is mostly conducted in winter times so this capture had to be taken at freezing temperatures... A title could also be "Frosty Light Trails"...

Enjoy your day !

Tulips growing in my flower garden, Yakima County, Washington. A few of the blossoms were damaged by a long spell of unseasonable cold weather. I believe it got below freezing temperatures 5 consecutive nights. Even this morning there is a skim of ice on my birdbath. IMG_7803

Gordon and I hiked up into the Cairngorm hills to around 900m.

A day with blustery strong winds and showers of hail and snow! We had looked and looked for the Ptarmigan and had given up seeing these beautiful birds.

When on our way down we came across 3 just off the path. Luck was on our side, and we both got our very first photographs of this very special bird that lives in extreme weather conditions and freezing temperatures.

The ptarmigan is a game bird, slightly larger than a grey partridge. In summer, it is a mixture of grey, brown and black above with white bellies and wings. In winter, it becomes totally white except for its tail and eye-patch, which remain black.

It breeds in the highest mountains of the Highlands of Scotland on the Arctic like landscape there. Birds are residents, seldom moving far from breeding sites. In severe cold weather, birds may move from the highest ground to the edge of forests.

What they eat : Shoots, leaves, leaf buds, berries and insects.

Having slept a whole 2 hours and still tipsy from the previous evening, I then bore the freezing temperatures for an hour and a half only for a shed to turn up. Can't say I was best pleased to see a 66 round the corner instead of the 88 that it should've been, however the light was nice and I suppose it was a clean loco at least.

I've watched to see when our Mock Pear Tree's buds would open. Last year they opened on March 21. This year our Spring has been cold and the buds have remained tightly closed.

But today, April 12, the buds (somewhat bitten by prior recent frosts) began to spring open, almost like popcorn popping! Here's an example of this long-awaited process. And, right on cue, the bees arrived as well.

Unfortunately, we likely will get freezing temperatures tomorrow. So we will have to see what happens to these vulnerable blooms.

We had more snow overnight. Freezing temperatures, power outages and no water.

Historic winter in Texas.

During the winter, the edge of our city's Lake Michigan lakeshore often changes dramatically due to the ice formations that build up and it often extends quite far out from shore.

Ice formations happen primarily due to extended periods of freezing temperatures, which continually freeze portions of the waves that hit the shore. Depending on the direction and force of the wind, 10 to 20 feet of iceberg-like formations can form within a few days.

To capture the scene above I'm standing on a formation that extends about 60 feet into the lake. I turned around and snapped this shot, and you can see the land and trees in the background.

The apparent 'river' you see here is really no river at all, but is a large break between ice formations that have frozen solid.

Thanks for looking, commenting and faving, it is much appreciated.

After yesterday's rain, snow, high winds and freezing temperatures I doubt if this little guy survived. He sure delighted a lot of birders.

PS Just heard he is still around.

Virginia River, St John's NL.

Beautiful warm light this afternoon despite the freezing temperatures.

“Meraki ( Greek) - when you do something with soul, creativity or love; putting a piece of yourself into what you do.”

Today was a Meraki moment when I realized it may be our last day of freezing temperatures for a while to try photographing frozen bubbles. So the planned housecleaning was put aside. I got lost in my photography! For Sliders Sunday, I used a preset filter in Lightroom to get the blue tones in the crystals of this bubble image I captured. Then I blended another image I took last week of the Maple seeds hanging on a snowy branch and put it inside the bubble. I do love the magic of winter.

It's been a long time since I've seen this much snow accumulate, with below freezing temperatures allowing it to pillow up.

Despite the freezing temperatures, we only had a light sprinkling of snow this week.

Remnants of rain, and freezing temperatures in Southwest Michigan.

Freezing temperatures and warm water equal fog on Barton Creek in Austin, Texas.

Winter here in the canyon usually brings freezing temperatures at night and enough warmth during the day for a sleeveless shirt. I like it that way!

Most unusually, however, there's just been a couple of days where it never got above freezing and the nights got down to 12F. This was fairly detrimental to my fall garden which typically overwinters nicely.

Still, it is a beautiful time when many new things can be seen in the landscape no longer hidden by leaf cover.

Almost December and these amazing geese are still hanging around Quebec, Canada, even with below freezing temperatures and snow in the corn fields.

Thanks for viewing, faves and comments are always appreciated !

One of these two swans appeared to be trapped in ice,, under the gazebo. I took photos of it when I was walking along the Waterfront Recreational Trail, earlier. On my way back home I saw a man breaking up the ice around the swans, using a long metal pole that is there to be used when rescuing someone! Thanks stranger 🙏

A few decades back and before climate warming, cormorants used to fly away for the winter. Now they mostly overwinter and have done well in the mild winters. This winter, which turned out to have some very cold spells, with over -15C at night and -10C or less during the day, they seem to have been hard hit. The fact that they don't have waterproof feathers (like ducks) and need to dry them after diving, is probably related, with less resistance to persistent freezing temperature.

It's Saturday once again, hurray!

That means I have Dad home for the whole weekend. As usual,

we were off to an early start this morning, despite the freezing

temperature (-21C/-28C depending on wind chill).

And haven't I grown, lately? I'm nearly big as a tree! We found this cool-looking dead one (it's so wet in this area that most of the trees around here can't grow to a large size unless they are on higher ground) tucked into a large clearing in the Mer Bleue Bog area. It was easy to get here because, due to the freeze/thaw cycle we've experienced the past while, this cold snap has frozen the top layer of snow so hard you can walk over it without breaking through--even for Dad, and he could stand to lose a couple.

(Hey, this is not about me!)

Just sayin', Pops.

Sunrise was at 6:27 AM EST, this photo was taken 13 minutes later. Sun light was still dim. Snow Geese are beginning to fill the sky. The outside temperature this morning was in the low 30's F, more comfortable than the freezing temperatures yesterday. Estimate is a 120,000 snow geese roosting on the lake this morning – weekend afternoon counts were over 120,000).

A cold morning with fog along the Yellowstone River ... was near freezing temperatures there even in the middle of summer.

Found in a flower pot in the garden. Now there is snow and solid freezing temperatures, the search for springtails has come to a standstill for me now.

Walruses can slow their heart rates to deal with freezing temperatures.

Walrus skin becomes pink-red rather than the usual grey-brown when sun-bathing on the ice.

The skin of a walrus is up to 4 cm thick.

Male walruses are almost double the weight of females.

The moustache of walruses contains around 450 highly sensitive whiskers.

Walruses can dive as deep as 180 metres below the water.

The scientific name for the walrus is Odobenus rosmarus, which means ‘tooth-walking sea-horse’ in Latin.

Candid eye contact street photography from Glasgow, Scotland. Suitably wrapped up for the freezing temperatures - enjoy!

An extreme close-up of a raspberry, using my macro lens plus extension tubes. Back in October, the raspberries were still pretty tasty. I picked raspberries yesterday, but they didn't taste as good as they do when they ripen quickly during warmer weather. Last night's below freezing temperatures may have put an end to my berry season. HTT!

How often you get to experience views like this? Thanks to my friends from Chicago’s Luxury Apartments at 73 East Lake St I was able to spent some quality time at this location . After the sunset and blue hour shoot I stayed a bit longer to capture some of the evening glow. Since it wasn’t easy shooting on this freezing temperatures, I had to spend rest of the night warming up with some good vine and some single malt whiskey. All in all a great evening out spent the way I like it. What do you think?

The first night of freezing temperatures of the season, after we had record high temperatures (81F or 27C) two days ago. This is the weather in Texas. My Bluebonnets germinated but they will not be damaged by frost.

Hundreds of bins of apples to be picked and snow, (tomorrow), and freezing temperatures, (-12 C. Saturday night), in the forecast. The life of a farmer is seldom without worry but this situation is about as worrisome as it gets.

Another yard pic from ten days ago as we were receiving another snowfall-- we ended up with about four inches, total. The ground is all clear now-- our forecast high is 65F and we don't have any freezing temperatures expected until the weekend. Spring is on its way...
