The pencils with our URL on the sticker and the sweets are for visitors. The books are examples of what we're taking to the villages. Of the villages we've visited so far, most have more young kids than older students.
This year we are container gardening. We haven't had much luck with the planter boxes, so we decided to try feed buckets. (Thanks so much to D.K. for providing them to us!) The boys each have their own. H planted carrot seeds (which never sprouted), but has freebie-squash and freebie- tomatoes in his. C planted watermelons. B planted kale, which was immediately eaten by something as soon as it sprouted, but he has some jalapenos and freebie-squash in his. We also have a pot of sweet peas and 3 pots of tomatoes.
The freebie-squash bloomed this morning, but I didn't get out there with the camera before the bloom closed. Why freebie-squash you may ask. Well, we didn't plant squash, but we did add compost to the soil in the buckets. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this is butternut squash.
