An unidentified demonstrator flashes a sign calling for "Free software, Open source" as he rushes across the stage following a speech by Microsoft Corporation Chairman Bill Gates at Beijing University, in China's capital city Friday April 20, 2007. Advocates of open-source tenet say that users should be allowed to view and edit the software's code.(AP Photo/Elizabeth Dalziel)

不想多评论什么,我也曾经是linux的用户,但是现在开源界,特别是中国的linux开源界,给我的印象就是浮躁,幸好开源还有BSD的高贵和典雅,才会有Mac OS的第二春。

PHOENIX: Physics with Homemade Equipment and Innovative Experiments

This project started as a part of the program by Inter University

Accelerator Centre to improve the laboratory facilities at the

universities. It is a Hardware and Software Framework that can be used

for developing computer interfaced science experiments without getting

into the details of electronics or computer programming. The objective

is to make teachers and students familiar with computerized

experimental systems and also to enable them to develop new

experiments. Different sensors elements can be interfaced and accessed

by few lines of Python code. Phoenix utilizes the power of personal

computers for experiment control, data acquisition and its

mathematical analysis. The instrument is designed using locally

available low cost components and the design is freely available for

commercial production. Design supports hardware plug-in modules for

expansion. Phoenix is developed using Free Software tools. The Phoenix

Live CD contains all the required phoenix programs plus a collection

of science and engineering software.

For detailed documentation and to get started quickly, download the

book in PDF format. The Help Page has addresses of the users who are

willing to help. Find out the ones closest to your location

Thee photos are from last fall's Poco concert at WIldwood Springs Resort near Steelville, MO. That is a wonderful small venue to see a concert... and seeing Poco there was spectacular! Check out this venue for the handful of concerts they do each year if you are visiting the Missouri Ozarks.

The final four... NCAA basketball at it's very best. This collage was created with the PhotoSpills "lettering" feature. Quick and easy.

It's March Madness. My bracket picks look pretty sad, but at least I'm getting some joy by posting this basketball collage.

This is the same basic "trading card" design as in other collages I've posted. It's easy to use most collage designs for any event, theme or occasion. If your photo looks good... it will probably look even better in a collage. (Special thanks to K.M. Klemencic for sharing these photos on Flickr!)

Why does Annie look so happy, you ask? Is it the slightly oversized pyjamas she's wearing? Or perhaps the 70's towel she's been put on?

No, it's because she's just listened to her dad, explaining that this shot was produced using only free software of course!

Since Windows crashed, and refused to reinstall on my machine, I've finally got started with Ubuntu Studio and now all I need to know is why I didn't make the switch a looong time ago. Everything "just works" so far. Or at least more so than in Windows.

The shot was processed with LightZone, which seems to be a perfectly acceptable alternative to LightRoom, at least considering it's a lot cheaper (the Linux version is free so far). It also produces Adobe semi-compatible XMP-files, meaning my Ubuntu machine fits perfectly with Adobe workflow stuff on other machines as well.

If you understood half of the last paragraph, I warmly recommend giving Ubuntu Studio a go the next time you feel like reinstalling your computer.
