This is world-famous cosplayer Marie-Claude Bourbonnais dressesd as April O'Neil from the Ninja Turtles and holding Louis's Lego assault rifle instead of a microphone. She was at my local comic book store for Free Comic Book Day.
This was Free Comic Book Day, so I stopped by Monster's Lair Comics earlier today (May 5, 2018) to get some free comics to bring home. Monster's Lair is close to Texas Tech University in Lubbock.

"The Beguiling" is my favourite comic book store in Toronto, and one of the things i most miss about that awkwardly livable place.
it is also where i went for this year's installment of Free Comic Book Day.
tables sit in front of the store on the steps and sidewalk. local comics artists sign and sketch for fans and passersby. people grab their free comics samplers, then duck inside for some shade and to browse the stacks upon stacks of graphic novels, indie comics and manga [along with the occasional superhero comic].
i picked up:
Making Comics
Louis Riel
Love Fights Vol. 1 as a gift for Becca
.. and a fistfull of samplers.
oh, and while i was there i ran into www.flickr.com/photos/slr/ from vancouver as i was snapping this, which was really keen. he said "hey striatic" while i was cursing a huge SUV blocking my view.

Since 2002, "Free Comic Book Day" is an annual event that takes place on the first Saturday of May in the United States. It is an annual promotional effort by the North American comic book industry to help bring new readers into independent comic book stores.
At Galaxy of Comics in Van Nuys, "Free Comic Book Day" was celebrated with food trucks, a "Kids Can Draw" art table, and a raffle. Representatives from the Agents of C.O.S.P.L.A.Y., a non-profit organization came to promote fun and entertainment for the art of cosplay and were dressed up like Spider Man, Black Widow, and the Winter Soldier.
While I was there, I ran into two friends: comic book artists and storytellers Vinton Heuck and Bryon Penaranda who were promoting their Kickstarter campaign for "Mabigon", an Arthurian inspired fantasy graphic novel which you can read for free at www.mabigon.com
It was a fun filled day for the entire family but for me, the best part was receiving "Hello Kitty and Friends" comic book for f-r-e-e!
I found Elseworld's Finest Supergirl in my wanderings today. I could never find her in my price range online.
Picked up on "Free Comic Book Day" 2019:
Star Wars Adventures
Star Wars Day - "May the 4th Be With You" Free Previews
I just love my comic book guy, Jim!
I've only recently started going to his shop, just started to buy comics again. I was hesitant to go into his tiny store, which I passed often on the way to or from work. I'm glad I finally stopped. The owner was very nice, and very eager to please his customers. I talked to him for quite awhile that first time, and since, I've gone in several times. He always remembers me and what I like, which impresses me a lot, and I've decided he's my new comic guy.
So today I stop in to drop something off for him, and knowing it was free comic day, expecting to pick up a free book. I find he's got a whole bag of stuff he's put aside, which he seems to have done for all his subscribers. Such a nice gesture. So I have 19 free books and he's really got a loyal customer. :)
