Slender shorebird known for spinning frantically on water to stir up small invertebrates. Note needle-thin bill, longer and thinner than other phalaropes. Breeding females are brighter and more contrasting than males: note gray cap, peachy-orange neck with broad black stripe, and gray-and-rufous back. Males are duller with plainer grayish-brown upperparts and a less distinct dark neck stripe. Nonbreeding birds are very pale gray above and white below with a rather plain face and yellowish legs. Juveniles show crisp buffy edges on wing feathers. Prefers shallow ponds, marshes, and lakes, sometimes in large flocks. Can mix with Red-necked Phalarope; Wilson’s is larger, lankier, and longer-billed. Feeds frantically, more often on land than other phalaropes. Never on the open ocean. Most common in western North America; uncommon to rare in the east. Winters as far south as Tierra del Fuego. (eBird)

5XP HDR shot of frantically busy Shibuya in Tokyo, Japan.

This was taken from my hotel room and was fortunate to have such an awesome view! The processing was a bit more difficult given the reflection and dust from outside the window but I'm happy with this result. I really enjoy living/visiting in fast-paced cities and my recent trip to Shibuya only reinforced this belief. The 'scramble crossing' which was featured in such movie classics as: Lost in Translation & Fast and The Furious - Tokyo Drift, is really a sight to behold - an estimated 3k ppl go through the section every minute!

Some Shibuya marquees shown include: A part of the scramble crossing in the lower-right, Shibuya 109 department store, Yoyogi Park, Q-Front building, and Center Gai.

This swan is missing a couple of pinions. Late spring and early summer, birds gradually are loosing most of their feathers. Some of them even loose their color, like most male ducks.

Captured earlier today on a pretty stormy day in the Yorkshire Dales. Literally only a few minutes earlier I could hardly see the far end of the viaduct due to torrential rain, and I was almost ready for packing up and heading back to the car - but by some sheer form of luck I then heard the train whistle and the rain suddenly eased just in time for the train approaching the viaduct, allowing me to capture this atmospheric scene. I was frantically trying to dry my lens as I saw the train approach, and managed to get the camera in place just in times for a few shots. In my opinion, this location is one of those places that suits these moody conditions perfectly. Here, 60163 Tornado steam locomotive can be seen heading the Ribblehead Rambler railtour across Ribblehead Viaduct itself, although the carriages themselves are not visible due to the amazing steam trail which was blowing in the strong wind.

Dizzyingly complex. In every direction like the long hair of a madman in a howling wind.

And so Kirra, known henceforth as the Yoga Ninja, found she was 15 minutes late to her Pilates class. Taking to the rooftops, she vowed to get there, by fair means or foul. Or something.

Hello amazing Flickr people!

Today, I was frantically searching for pink (or purple) fluffiness! Once again, I was jumping from concept to concept and nothing was fluffy or pink enough! Snow: fluffy but too cold, white and I hate it! Teddy bear: fluffy but not the right color or fluffiness degree. Pompom: fluffy but ugly (at least the one I have) and not pink. Fur: fluffy but not pink!!

Well, let’s just say, that I took at least 500 pictures today (not only for the "fluffy" theme, yes I get easily distracted by other picture concepts in my head, or maybe just another personality is taking over from time to time lol!) and I spend my day in pajamas (I just got dressed at 16h30 because I had to, my husband was coming back from work !).

I even watched a video on YouTube: DIY pompom the easy and fast version (I was thinking about doing one from scratch, but apparently Pompoms are not my other hidden talent...yes, I know it is easy and fast, but it never worked, ok ???).

At the end of this crazy photo marathon and hidden talent exploration day, I could not decide which picture to choose (and neither could any of my other personalities) .... So, I just went randomly and here you go: a macro picture of a fluffy pink feather with droplets. Which is good because it has been a really long time since we had some droplets pictures on this feed.

And I see, you are asking yourself: why pink fluffiness? Why all this trouble and time lost (forever) on YouTube instead of Netflix? Why God, why? Well, once again I got caught in my "double-challenges”! So, this is my contribution to two awesome Flickr groups: the pink for Color my World Daily Group and the fluffiness is for the amazing Smile on Saturday! Group.

Happy SoS and CMWD to all participants!!!

We returned to Lake Shore Park in Newark. The chicks are getting larger but still wanting to be fed by mum and dad. This chick was so excited, as it stuck its beak into its parent’s mouth, that it put the adult off balance and he/she had to open its wings to stabilize itself. This baby is pretty big now and I’m sure the parents will encourage it to fly and find food for itself soon.

The frantic scene yesterday before today's 4" (so far) early season snowfall. About an hour later, we had a minor breakdown and were forced to quit. This season has brought it all: historic rain leading to late planting, drought which led to an early end in some areas to the growing season, and now an early freeze and snow. On top of all this is low prices, brought on by tariffs and a USDA that refuses to acknowledge the problems with this year's crop...

Full disclosure;this is my wife's pic and processed by me. I'm the one running, and later breaking down, the combine! LOL

"IN TUNE", art by Henk Schut.

IN TUNE is about finding a new balance between people and their environment by appealing to our hearing and listening abilities. Just like tuning a musical instrument, which requires the utmost listening and observation, we must continue to listen and tune in to our environment as humans.

Sir Lance-a-lot was on duty at Horsepen Bayou during the low tide foraging frenzy and was extremely difficult to keep with as he ran about searching for any hapless bait fish in the shallow water. Managed to get a few snaps of him before he changed directions and ran in yet another direction. Tri-colored Heron foraging on Horsepen Bayou.

This is pretty much how I feel around Christmas and New Years. It's all calm on top but underneath I'm going a thousand directions at once.

Frantic Rowing Back by The Thames

Hello there. Relevant comments welcome but please do NOT post any link(s).

This was taken in the 1990's on S. Newkirk Street, Baltimore. Since that time many of the more interesting structures have been removed.

It's actually been fairly sunny of late, but you'd never know it our back yard, where the big maple to the south of us still has more-than-enough leaves to block it all out, especially when helped by the tall evergreens. But the yard-birding has been great even if the light has not been. We've pretty much had the same patterns, lately: periods of relative calm interspersed with frantic pool-parties where everyone shows up for baths. There's some activity on the feeders--especially woodpeckers and hummingbirds--but most of the others seem as much or more interested in the water. Townsend warbler, backyard Olympia.

While photographing the sun rising over Patoka Lake, I heard the sound of birds rustling in the trees above. As I stepped away to get a better angle, I noted this little guy scurrying around the tree jumping frantically from limb to limb. His action/reaction made me think that on this morning, breakfast may be a little more difficult to find.

Just as I drew down on this perfectly preened, not a feather out of place little guy with my lens to get a picture, he did the unthinkable…he jumped head first into a large Tent caterpillar colony! I stood and shivered as the web stretched side to side much like a mothers stomach as the baby rolls in the final days of pregnancy. It wasn’t the worms that bothered me…it was the webs full of caterpillar droppings that freaked me out to my core.

It was then that one of my favorite verses from one of my favorite songs sung as a child in church popped into my head…translating quickly to my tongue as I said aloud the fourth verse to Andy Williams’s song “The Impossible Dream.”

“To fight for the right

without question or pause,

to be willing to march

into hell for a heavenly cause.”

Now I know it was hunger and not a “Heavenly cause,” but in my opinion this little guy jumped into hell without pause. When he emerged some time later, looking like hell but holding victory high in the air, I had to smile and capture the moment. A hard fought victory and breakfast for him, happiness in finding out that something eats Tent caterpillars for me.
