This is a completely different frame. I realized too late that I hadn't taken a picture of the actual frame after joining, but this is a similar frame from a few years ago. Let's pretend it's the same one.
In most cases, I start with raw basswood, which I buy already milled to shape. I sometimes do my own milling, but it's not cost/time effective. The folks I buy from have almost any profile I could need, all ready to go. I cut the frame into four mitered legs on my saw, and join the four corners. Sometimes I join my corners with woodglue and nails, sometimes with a specialty high-strength hot melt adhesive.
This is the light post at the Breakers mansion ... I wonder what it means to have animals (Rams?) so close to a girl?
I got a kick out of the windows on this building ... wondering why there was one made so special from the others!
This is from Scranton, PA. Just last weekend Hillary was walking past this very building. I wonder if she noticed ;)

First round was for Kath - but I commissioned a local framemaker to make them. This time, I'm DIY!
Oh, and I've got some stunning Huon Pine to work with in 2013 too :)
The client, my colleague Ryan Seals, and I talked about the painting for over an hour. Chagall painted it in the 1930's, and we began to discus different frame styles contemporary to the image.
The client pointed out a fish drawn at the top of the painting, above the two figures. The fish is a recuring symbol in Chagall's work.
I suggested we consider a frame in the style of the Bucks County Framemakers. They were known for their bold, incised surface decorations, which I felt would be a nice complement to the bold drawing style of Chagall. We began looking at some frame history books, and some magazines. When we found this illustration in an article about Bucks County Framemaker Ben Badura, I knew we were on the right track.
This photo is from an article written about Badura by noted contemporary Framemaker Bill Adair, and is reprinted here with his kind permission.

I've heard that the weather on Long Island is similar to the wine making areas of France ... I wonder if the wine is of similar quality. Anyone know?

Over at Dee and Sal's woodshop. Proves that there are more than one way to skin a cat. (no cats were harmed in this post as well!)

I'm not sure what Jaume translates to in English ... is it James? This is in Balboa Park, San Diego so I'd assume it was a tribute to St. James.
