This was built for the February InnovaLUG Vignette Collaboration and it doubles as an entry for Fractured Kingdoms.
Back to my wandering aimlessly through my photo catalog every morning and randomly choosing a shot to post.
This fascinating rock wall was found in Joshua Tree National park. What strikes me most are the nearly perfectly straight diagonal fractures. Though the park was created to protect and showcase its namesake plants, we found the rock formations to be a more compelling reason to visit.
Nearly two years of fighting have gone by. Many friends have fallen as our Nation has continued to walk this deadly path. Despite the mounting losses of both life and property our King refuses to pursue peaceful alternatives.
I look towards the coast and see the fleet that had been there for the past few days. Those Kader rats have stayed aboard their ships with very little movement. They refused to come attempt to take our fortresses that lined the coast and we were unable to go out and meet them as our fleet has yet to return from Isloriel. But today seemed different, there was movement on the ships and an attempt to take the capital was likely to begin within the hour, and within two hours it is likely we will all be dead.

Seasonally, wave action and cold temperatures form ice shelves along the shores of the Great Lakes. They are a curiosity that some cant resist. When people climb on the shelves, the fragile structures can collapse, crashing into the frigid waters where Hypothermia sets in quickly. Be safe.
High Peaks Wilderness, Adirondacks, NY. Wandering the tiny summit of Owls Head Mountain in Keene Valley, I watched the steady glow of sunrise descend from the peaks, illuminating the ridgelines and foothills as it lit them first, then washed downwards. The clouds took on the light, though whether the light of morning or a reflection upwards of an intense autumn, was arguable. All the colors of a rainbow, I thought, fractured and rearranged, but the spectrum is still there. I have images of perfect rainbows. I think nature reserves their display to prove she's got one trick nobody can resist dropping everything to look at. We're taught there's a pot of gold on the other side, like some kind of symbolic parallel to crossing the bridge of life, ascending and descending to a reward at the finish. Halfway over, I found I didn't want to feel like I already hit the high point, that the end is in sight. So maybe this is more appropriate to the arc of my path, a rainbow shattered along the way and raining down in countless pieces. An imperfect attempt at success by an imperfect man. I look out there and think, I've got a lot of climbing left to do.
There were almost infinite ways to fracture a portrait...this week's Digitalmania challenge. A really fascinating challenge.
