Volcano Etna, December 24, 2018.

Snowflakes drifted aimlessly by. Tegid kicked at the ground. It wasn’t so much out of frustration, but it was just past morning and already felt like a long day. He and his human friend, Tyron, were parcel carriers. They had set out from Camp Uskitan at dawn and were crossing vast fields of snow on their way to Nutromiv.

Rumors were spreading in regards to the recent raids along the mountain side. Primarily coming from the North Western borders of Melikroth, which is exactly where the friends were headed now. Thus far it hadn’t been anything too detrimental, but the raids were often targeting Melikroth’s crops. And those were scarce enough as it was. Neither Tegid nor Tyron had gave these problems much thought. As of yet they hadn’t been directly affected and figured their higher ups would handle the dilemma soon enough- They always did.

A subtle sound came from somewhere nearby. A sound that contradicted the rhythmic shuffling of the mailmen’s steps. It could have been disregarded as a rabbit, a thrush, or another animal of that sort. But this was something larger, and Tyron’s ears perked up at the sound. He signaled to Tegid and strayed away from the small cart he had been pulling. He jerked his gaze to the right just in time to watch a flurry of snow flung into the air as something jumped behind a nearby tree.

“Halt!” He shouted.

A figure emerged from behind the tree and quickly rushed away from Tyron's voice. He was a dash of blue, starkly contrasting the otherwise monotone landscape.

"By Frost!" Tegid stared in shock, "That was a blasted Albornian!"

The fractured rocky coastline of Portsoy, in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, is always great to photograph. However, on a stormy day like yesterday, the waves can be huge and make it even more impressive. In order to photograph this stack, you have to get pretty close to the waves, which can make things interesting (wet) at times.

A dry wind whistled through the desert of Kader, burning Vosh's nostrils. The assassinations and torchings were growing across the capital. If these extremists weren't stopped, the kingdom would be torn apart. Yet each attack brought them closer to him.

A frigid wind sliced through the tundra of Melikroth, cutting Drynoth VronikBlood's skin. There were reports of raids in the peaceful north. Had the humans snuck in from the south to steal food and supplies? He could sense no other explanation—only unease.

“Why is there war? Perhaps because now and then I might be inclined to snap at my neighbor. Because I and my neighbor and everyone else do not have enough love. Yet we could fight war and all its excrescences by releasing, each day, the love that is shackled inside us and giving it a chance to live.”

-Etty. Hillesum, Letters and Diaries, 307.

This way of looking at the problem of evil, as van den Bercken points out, is not intellectually satisfying for people who don’t personally believe in God.172 It is not the clear-cut answer that secular intellectuals want. It is only acceptable to somebody who is comfortable with mystery, somebody who is able to let faith coexist with unresolved questions. Dostoevsky was one such believer, and Etty Hillesum became one. She did not need a black-and-white answer to every question. She was able to live with the ambiguity she found in “The Grand Inquisitor.” “You have placed me before Your ultimate mysteries, oh God,” she writes in her last notebook. “I am grateful to You for that, I even have the strength to accept it and to know there is no answer. That we must be able to bear Your mysteries.”

-Beauty and Horror in a Concentration Camp- The Story of Etty Hillesum, James Murphy

I don’t know what I expected to find as I scrambled over rocks and jutting cliffs to get to a point usually closed by the tide. Returning from our Derbyshire duties the evening before I had a desire to get down to the coast straight away, crazy really as we had only been in central England for 5 days. Beautiful as it is the idea of being so far from the coast gets to me. It was still quite dark and the tide was rising I knew I only had a few minutes before my escape route was cut off, but as it was only 10 minutes from sunrise I shouldn’t be here long. That sunrise was looking pretty bleak, the cloud suffocated the horizon, then a tiny bit of magic of fractured light as the sun found away to herald its arrival. I quickly picked some foreground interested, unenthusiastically snapped away trying to catch any sea movement to enhance my lacklustre composition. The colour disappears as quickly as it came and I needed to make my exit with the same speed. I made my way back along the sands trying to make the most of my 4:20 start but I felt it was a disappointing trip as I dropped my camera back in the house knowing it would be a few days before I rediscovered this morning.

This is inspired by the Holy week ritual back in my home country when some people would go as far as being crucified on the cross as repentance for their sins.

The basis of the title though will require one's detail observation of this piece ;)

Here's a feature that I thought was really cool. It's a fracture in massive sandstone. Though the sandstone is made of individual sand grains (cemented together), and forms in layers, it responds as a uniform body when it fractures. This is the same sort of fracture that obsidian (or glass) makes--little "shells." I think this one is so cool. It looks like a giant inoceramid shell. Each rib is highlighted by desert varnish, making the ribs stand out. Note how the varnish forms on the upper surface of each rib, and the lower one is nearly free of varnish.

This feature is ~ 1 meter tall (more or less).

On the Monday of my holiday I ventured to Low Newton to visit the extraordinary Jigsaw rocks. Unfortunately the tide was not quite right but a rain shower as I was driving had kindly wet the shore making them stand out in the directional light of dawn. This is one of the best sunrise locations I've ever been to and I must say I was utterly smitten with the place. I will return again with the right tide in future.

After four months of travel and uncertainty on what his next move was going to be, Alex returned home to decide what his next move was going to be. And to ask his father some questions that he needed answered.

Not much story here, this was just a quick build to get a rank and to bridge a gap between the last build and an upcoming one.

A salty wind gusted through the islands of Alborne, ruffling Elduin Turbor's hair. Things were well in hand now. The northern operation still had some distance to go, but the southern was already a success. Silverborne's glory—and his kingdom's future—was on the horizon.
