From Powershift 2011, gathering of 10,000 youth climate activists in Washington DC for training and action. This photo is from a march to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
For Mia's 1st Birthday, we brought her a copy of Where The Wild Things Are! And I wore my matching necklace. (Thank you, Aditi!)
And then everything went wrong.
This week I've been house sitting for friends while Chris has been staying at our apartment, so after Mia's party he dropped me off. Before he left, we took the dogs for a nice walk and went down to the basement to check on the kitties. Unfortunately, when we found kitty friend Minou, we found that he had died of old age. Panicked, I went outside to cry over a cigarette, and I didn't bring my keys because all week I'd been locking the front door behind me with a key. So when Chris came out behind me and asked if the door was unlocked, naturally I said it was.
It wasn't. There we were locked out looking in at barking dogs looking at us. I got it together enough to call our friends who were in California and carefully told them about kitty friend Minou. Then embarrassingly about how I locked us out of the house. With compassion, they gave us directions into the house and advice on where to bury Minou in the backyard. I hung up and turned into a puddle of tears.
Chris: Do you want to bury Minou?
Me: No...oo...oo...
Chris: Then we're going to do this my way, no questions asked; no objections. Do you agree?
Me: oo...oo...kk...
Chris: First, you're going to pull it together. Second, you're going to drive me to the liquor store Third, I'm going to take some shots. Forth, I will dig a hole (you move the birdbath). And last, I will carry Minou out of the basement.
Me: What will I do?
Chris: Stay out of my way.*
At 4am, I gave kitty friend Minou a eulogy, wishing him well on his new garden adventure into the soil, the plants, and on and on and on...
*Note: I did help digging the hole because that part of the evening turned into a tragic comedy.
