The Federal Detention Center, Miami (FDC Miami) is a prison operated by the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP). It is located in Downtown Miami, at the corner of Northeast Fourth Street and North Miami Avenue.

 

Built in 1995, the detention center was designed for a capacity of 1,259 inmates. The facility primarily houses prisoners of the U.S. Marshals Service, both male and female. Its mission is to provide a safe and humane confinement of inmates and detainees, many of whom are involved in federal court proceedings in the Southern District of Florida.

 

Inmates are screened by a unit team member, and assigned quarters based on personal profile and security needs. Each unit team is composed of a unit manager, case manager(s), correctional counselor(s), and at times, an education representative. A federal register number is assigned to each inmate for identification and forwarding of correspondence while in federal custody.

 

In June 2010, the facility's security procedures prevented attorney Brittney Horstman from meeting a client when her underwire bra set off a metal detector. After returning from a bathroom without the item, she was turned away because of the detention center's dress code. The federal public defender's office contacted Warden Linda McGrew, who conducted an inquiry. McGrew concluded the incident was "an aberration" and promised it would not happen again.

 

According to a 2005 U.S. Department of Justice report, an estimated 12 percent of the complaints received by the department's inspector general involved inmates claiming sexual victimization by prison staff. In 2009, federal judge Cecilia Altonaga wrote that although the statute of limitations had passed to award damages in a civil case, "the BOP and FDC Miami did have notice of the illegal conduct taking place and were woefully deficient in addressing it."

 

The prison is located in downtown Miami, at the corner of Northeast Fourth Street and North Miami Avenue. In 2021, a luxury apartment complex called "Downtown 5th" had been built opposite the prison on what was previously a parking lot.

One of the major reasons why we need to work towards protecting the environment is because it helps to protect humanity. If we didn’t have our environment, then we wouldn’t have a place to live or resources to live.it is our moral obligation to do so. As a human who lives on earth, it is our responsibility to make sure that it is protected. We must give back to the future generation that what we have received and enjoying. Give them an environment that isn’t damaged and teach them how to continue living sustainably. I request all good souls to plant Banyan tree while making tree plantation. It will have a long lasting effect for mankind and go a long way in carry forwarding the nature to the next generation and will also give fruits useful for birds. Instagram Id : @nagendran_c4777. Question: Ever feel that nothing you do will change anything in anyone’s life?

 

Answers: Quietly to yourself; and then read below miracle story.

 

What would you do? You make the choice. Don't look for a punch line, there isn't one. Read it anyway. My question is: Would you have made the same choice?

 

At a fund raising dinner for a school that serves learning-disabled children, the father of one of the students delivered a speech that would never be forgotten by all who attended. After extolling the school and its dedicated staff, he offered a question: "When not interfered with by outside influences, everything nature does is done with perfection. Yet my son, Shay, cannot learn things as other children do. He cannot understand things as other children do. Where is the natural order of things in my son?"

 

The audience was stilled by the query.

 

The father continued. "I believe that when a child like Shay, physically and mentally handicapped comes into the world, an opportunity to realize true human nature presents itself, and it comes in the way other people treat that child."

 

Then he told the following story:

 

Shay and his father had walked past a park where some boys Shay knew were playing baseball. Shay asked, "Do you think they'll let me play?" Shay's father knew that most of the boys would not want someone like Shay on their team, but the father also understood that if his son were allowed to play, it would give him a much-needed sense of belonging and some confidence to be accepted by others in spite of his handicaps.

 

Shay's father approached one of the boys on the field and asked (not expecting much) if Shay could play. The boy looked around for guidance and said, " We're losing by six runs and the game is in the eighth inning. I guess he can be on our team and we'll try to put him in to bat in the ninth inning."

 

Shay struggled over to the team's bench and, with a broad smile, put on a team shirt. His Father watched with a small tear in his eye and warmth in his heart. The boys saw the father's joy at his son being accepted. In the bottom of the eighth inning, Shay's team scored a few runs but was still behind by three. In the top of the ninth inning, Shay put on a glove and played in the right field. Even though no hits came his way, he was obviously ecstatic just to be in the game and on the field, grinning from ear to ear as his father waved to him from the stands. In the bottom of the ninth inning, Shay's team scored again. Now, with two outs and the bases loaded, the potential winning run was on base and Shay was scheduled to be next at bat.

 

At this juncture, do they let Shay bat and give away their chance to win the game? Surprisingly, Shay was given the bat. Everyone knew that a hit was all but impossible because Shay didn't even know how to hold the bat properly, much less connect with the ball.

 

However, as Shay stepped up to the plate, the pitcher, recognizing that the other team was putting winning aside for this moment in Shay's life, moved in a few steps to lob the ball in softly so Shay could at least make contact. The first pitch came and Shay swung clumsily and missed. The pitcher again took a few steps forward to toss the ball softly towards Shay. As the pitch came in, Shay swung at the ball and hit a slow ground ball right back to the pitcher.

 

The game would now be over. The pitcher picked up the soft grounder and could have easily thrown the ball to the first baseman. Shay would have been out and that would have been the end of the game.

 

Instead, the pitcher threw the ball right over the first baseman's head, out of reach of all team mates. Everyone from the stands and both teams started yelling, "Shay, run to first! Run to first!" Never in his life had Shay ever run that far, but he made it to first base. He scampered down the baseline, wide-eyed and startled.

 

Everyone yelled, "Run to second, run to second!" Catching his breath, Shay awkwardly ran towards second, gleaming and struggling to make it to the base. By the time Shay rounded towards second base, the right fielder had the ball ... the smallest guy on their team who now had his first chance to be the hero for his team. He could have thrown the ball to the second-baseman for the tag, but he understood the pitcher's intentions so he, too, intentionally threw the ball high and far over the third-baseman's head. Shay ran toward third base deliriously as the runners ahead of him circled the bases toward home.

 

All were screaming, "Shay, Shay, Shay, all the Way Shay"

 

Shay reached third base because the opposing shortstop ran to help him by turning him in the direction of third base, and shouted, "Run to third! Shay, run to third!"

 

As Shay rounded third, the boys from both teams, and the spectators, were on their feet screaming, "Shay, run home! Run home!" Shay ran to home, stepped on the plate, and was cheered as the hero who hit the grand slam and won the game for his team.

 

"That day", said the father softly with tears now rolling down his face, "the boys from both teams helped bring a piece of true love and humanity into this world".

 

Shay didn't make it to another summer. He died that winter, having never forgotten being the hero and making his father so happy, and coming home and seeing his Mother tearfully embrace her little hero of the day!

 

AND NOW A LITTLE FOOTNOTE TO THIS STORY: We all send thousands of jokes through the e-mail without a second thought, but when it comes to sending messages about life choices, people hesitate. The crude, vulgar, and often obscene pass freely through cyberspace, but public discussion about decency is too often suppressed in our schools and workplaces.

Even though I still have hundreds of photos from the German trip to post, I'm fast-forwarding to the end of that trip when I was planespotting at Dresden Airport for my flight home.

 

I was a bit amused how many fellow passengers were booked on that flight LH211 from Dresden to Frankfurt-am-Main. To my surprise, in due course, everyone did fit into the Canadian-built regional jet along with their luggage.

 

Based on this photo, I think I was the only planespotter on that flight!

this is a sight I see alot lately.

it is called Bob organizing our life,

researching, calling, making a gazillion lists, cutting off utilities, forwarding mail.. it is alot of work to leave the country!

I am thankful he has the 'where with all' to do all that stuff.

The former Bartlams store consists of 2 single storey brick buildings which have been converted for a single occupancy. They formed part of an important commercial and retail area in Charters Towers in the late 19th century

 

Discovered in late 1871, Charters Towers became the richest of the North Queensland mining fields. It was proclaimed a municipality in 1877 and the construction of the railway created easy access to the port at Townsville, solving the problem of high freight costs experienced by many other mining fields. Charters Towers gold was in deep reefs and the equipment needed to extract and process it was financed by substantial southern and overseas investment. The town became a prosperous centre providing employment for a considerable number of people. It had several schools, 8 churches, 3 newspapers, 2 iron foundries, a hospital, fire brigade, jockey club and gasworks. In the late 1880s and 90s, handsome public buildings rose to replace the modest structures of the early township. Gold output peaked in 1899, as did a population of 26,500.

 

The land on which both buildings stand was sold at auction in 1882 as 3 allotments. The corner block, allotment 1, was purchased by William Jackson, who died in 1886 and left the property to be administered by Trustees. In 1898 it was sold to Wright Heaton and Company Limited. They were a large firm of carriers, forwarding agents and produce merchants, formed in NSW, who had arrived in Charters Towers in 1882 following the opening of the rail link with Townsville. They initially had premises at the railway station and in 1884 opened a forage store on the corner of Gill and Deane Streets. They are believed to have operated from this site for some years before actually purchasing the property. This building was constructed for them in 1901. In 1907 they leased it to Cummins and Campbell, who initially conducted a similar business, but branched out and by 1916 were describing themselves as wine, spirit and general merchants. After being sold in 1912 to Horace Brown it was purchased in 1916 by William White who opened there the following year as William White & Co. Ltd., also a merchant. In 1925 it was purchased by Bartlam's Limited, general merchants, who supplied stations in Western Queensland.

 

The adjoining building was built as a branch of the important trading company of Burns, Philp and Company Limited. James Burns had arrived in Brisbane in 1862 with his brother John, who set up a store there, while James worked on a pastoral run. In 1867, James set up a store in Gympie, beginning a long association with mining fields. In 1872 he moved to Townsville and set up his own business there. He was joined in 1874 by Robert Philp who had previously worked for shipping agents in Brisbane. Burns moved to Sydney in 1877 and established himself as an importer and shipping agent, while Philp continued business in the north. In 1883 they formed a company, Burns Philp and Company Limited, registered in Sydney. Within a decade of Burns arrival in Townsville, the company dominated trade in North Queensland, supplying a huge range of goods. They also became a major player in Pacific and New Guinea trading.

 

In Charters Towers, Philp entered into a business arrangement with Isidor Lissner, who was elected to the Queensland Parliament in 1883. Lissner was not considered a good business man by Burns and the Charters Towers branch actually made a substantial loss in the years 1883-6, apparently due to previous injudicious purchasing. Philp continued to represented the northern interests of the company even after he himself was elected to Parliament in 1886. Lissner owned Allotment 3 of section 27 in Mosman Street and subdivided it in 1887. Philp acquired subdivision B and purchased Allotment 2 from Martin Thomsen, the original grantee. At the time, the premises of Burns Philp & Co were further along Mosman Street. The company developed rapidly during the boom of the 1880s, although 1888-89 was a difficult time for Charters Towers as drought affected the running of crushing mills which used considerable quantities of water.

 

In 1891 the property was transferred into the name of Burns Philp and Company Limited and a new building, designed by architects Eyre and Munro, was constructed for the company at a cost of £3500. Part of the building was offices and part a store. It was a substantial building with an elaborate facade in keeping with other commercial buildings being erected in Charters Towers and with its neighbour, Wright Heaton and Company.

 

Although gold production on the field peaked in 1899 at an impressive 337,000 ounces, it soon became clear that these grades did not continue at depth and by 1920 only one mine was still operational. People, businesses and even the more portable buildings, moved away from the town. The store was sold to Selina Vicks in 1921. Her husband, Thomas Vicks, conducted a grocery store from the premises. From 1926 Burns Philp also had an agency there, eventually moving from the site around 1940 when they obtained premises in Stubley Street. Vicks grocery store closed about the same time and the property was sold in 1944 to Bartlams, who may have been occupying the building before this, thought there is no formal lease.

 

Bartlams modified the buildings into a single occupancy. They went into liquidation in 1976 and in 1978 the building was offered for sale. There was concern about the possibility of demolition and in order to prevent this, the building was purchased by the National Trust of Queensland with a bequest from Miss Zara Clark of 'Mirtna' Station. The 'Zara Clark Museum' began as a transport museum and houses a large local history collection which includes horse-drawn vehicles, agricultural machinery, domestic, mining, and medical artefacts, records and photographs.

 

When the Bartlams store buildings were erected, Mosman Street was dominated by commercial and retail buildings extending from Mary Street at the north to Towers Street at the south. Many of these buildings have since been demolished, and houses now occupy some of the sites on which larger buildings once stood. Bartlam's store forms the edge of this once continuous row of buildings, and is now important in maintaining some sense of the scale of Mosman Street as a former commercial district.

They say all good things must come to an end, sooner or later. On Thursday December 11th, the Central Oregon & Pacific would run one last train out of Weed to finish clearing all the cars out of California and forwarding them to Medford, Oregon barely 10 years after reopening of the line in November 2015.

 

With the closure of the RFP veneer mill in Weed, virtually no shippers remain on this nearly 100-mile section of the railroad. And thus before a maintenance embargo can be implemented, every railcar must be cleared out of the trackage affected. On this last run, the train would have nearly 50 cars by the time they reached the state line, making it quite possibly the biggest train over the Siskiyous since the SP or maybe even the RailAmerica years.

 

From dawn to dusk on Thursday, me and my buddy Luke would follow the train northbound as it slowly built in size. Many more people from as far north as Albany, and as far south as the bay area would show up to see the action (and it certainly lived up to the hype) even though the weather was not always ideal.

 

It is quite unfortunate that many railroaders and laborers' hard work of keeping the railroad open in recent years is all going to waste thanks to the closure and exodus of another. While there is still hope that the mill in Weed can be reopened under new ownership, only time will tell. Interchange traffic from the Rogue Valley might also still be in the cards, but only if Union Pacific cooperates. If not CORP will more than likely let the route rot like Tennessee Pass, and even pull out of the lease all together.

 

Now looking like a real train, the 2067 arrives at the crossing of the Shasta River.

NS 370 is arriving at Debutts yard on a rainy day on with a nice trio of EMDs for power.

Ironically, THIS WAS the flight that I really wished to get on. I had wanted to fly an Air Canada/ Swiss combo flight Toronto - Zurich - Hamburg/ Dresden - Zurich - Montreal - Toronto. Alas, but that particular flight routing was un-affordably expensive, so I ended up doing Toronto - Brussels - Hamburg/ Dresden - Frankfurt-am-Main - Toronto. Still, at Dresden Airport, I was delighted to see the Swiss flight that I had wanted to be on!

On Thursday December 11th, the Central Oregon & Pacific would run one last train out of Weed to finish clearing all the cars out of California and forwarding them to Medford, Oregon barely 10 years after reopening of the line in November 2015.

And thus before a maintenance embargo can be implemented, every railcar must be cleared out of the trackage affected. On this last run, the train would have nearly 50 cars by the time they reached the state line, making it quite possibly the biggest train over the Siskiyous since the SP or maybe even the RailAmerica years.

Shortly after the last image, the train passes Montague for the last time. The tracks in the foreground were once used to interchange cars with the ill-fated Yreka Western railroad, which sadly has not seen much activity in well over a decade now.

After Selkirk to Niagara Falls train B789 cut their power away, a Niagara Falls yard crew is getting to work with a pair of RC SD40-2's to switch out the cars and block them for various local industries or for forwarding to other destinations.

Back at the Olympics, the ADEs for routes 81, 120 and 222 were introduced at Shepherd's Bush to iron out any teething problems whilst buses were being moved out of AV.

 

Now forwarding ourselves to 2014, ADE65 was able to transfer to S for a week or so whilst it supported 94 during the Central Line strike and also as a Notting Hill Carnival extra.

 

At time of publishing this photo, the bu has long gone back to route 220 at Park Royal (PK).

MCS was the yard where N Notts coal was gathered for forwarding, principally to ER destinations like Whitemoor and New England yards. Astride the Mansfield Railway, it linked to the north with the LDECR at Clipstone, and to the south with the GCR at Kirkby, near Annesley. Opened c1918 with just five up and five down roads, the yard was expanded c1929 to its final dimensions. Here, in its twilight, a 31 and a 37 go about their duties in Nov 1976.

Como vcs podem ver pela caixa, a caixa que eles recebem eles despacham, quem preenche a tal "Customs Declaration" é você informando o quem tem na caixa e o valor, o remetente fica com o seu nome mesmo e o endereço de lá.

 

O preço pelo serviço são U$8,5 + custo do Paypal (4,3%), e tudo mais é cobrado, se quiser que troque de caixa eles trocam, se quiser juntar várias encomendas em uma caixa só eles mandam e cada coisinha a + que você quer é cobrada.

 

Quem for comprar na Nordstrom fica atento pq eu comprei 03 sapatos lá e eles fizeram o favor de mandar um de cada vez pro Shipito, o que fez ficar um pouquinho mais caro. Não sei se outras lojas fazem o mesmo, mas acredito que pode acontecer.

 

Dá pra comprar em outros países tb e mandar entregar lá, eu comprei no Reino Unido e chegou nos Usa em 02 dias.

 

Ufa! se alguém chegou até o fim demorou exatos 30 dias pra chegar na opção com rastreio + seguro, mas as outras mandei tudo por First Class mesmo.

Eu tenho mais um monte de coisa pra chegar pq quando descobri comprei um monte de coisa que sempre quis e não dava, usei outros serviços como o MyUs (esse está tudo ok até agora) e o Viaddress (nesse eu já me ferrei em + de U$100 e ainda nem sinal de postarem).

 

No ebay tb vendem esse serviço mas eu não gostei pq tenho que enviar cópias dos meus documentos para a pessoa, o mesmo no UK e isso não vou fazer, se aqui no Brasil já não dou copia de documento pra ninguém, imagina mandar cópia reconhecida de passaporte pra uma pessoa que não conheço.

I'm still in the middle of slowly catching up before considering uploading anything new. However, in the meantime, I couldn't resist forwarding this upload which I did nearly 2 years ago. I think it is really appropriate given the upcoming world cup football season. I know many of you have already seen this - so this is for those who haven't or those in need of a smile/laugh and would like to revisit this video.

Here is the result of my second attempt at using Windows movie maker. Although I have a lot to learn, I had a lot of fun and smiles putting this together because of the subject matter. I hope you enjoy it too.

A Harvey, Bailey and Company operation was also established in Enderby, B.C. In 1909, the two founders of the company retired and the business was carried on by members of the Bailey family.

Burnett Heads lighthouse

The new Burnett Heads lighthouse was built to replace a wooden 1873 tower whose base can still be seen nearby.

 

The lighthouse is now one of two Australian Cospas Sarsat satellite ground receiver stations. The other one is at Cave Point, near Albany in Western Australia.

The lighthouse grounds are open all year round. The tower is not open to the public.

 

The International Cospas-Sarsat Programme is a satellite-aided search and rescue initiative. It is organized as a treaty-based, nonprofit, intergovernmental, humanitarian cooperative of 44 nations and agencies. It is dedicated to detecting and locating radio beacons activated by persons, aircraft or vessels in distress, and forwarding this alert information to authorities that can take action for rescue.

 

The system utilizes a network of satellites that provide coverage anywhere on Earth. Distress alerts are detected, located and forwarded to over 200 countries and territories at no cost to beacon owners or the receiving government agencies.Cospas-Sarsat was conceived and initiated by Canada, France, the United States, and the former Soviet Union in 1979. The first rescue using the technology of Cospas-Sarsat occurred in September 1982.

Here is an NOPB crew aboard a pair of SD70Ms forwarding the hottest train in the terminal eastbound from the Union Pacific at East Bridge Jct. to the CSXT over in Gentilly. I don't recall the exact symbol at this date as I was no longer living or working in the area (was just back for a visit), but I believe it was still the ZCIAT (UP City of Industry, CA to CSXT Atlanta, GA). It ran from the Los Angeles basin across the entire length of the old Southern Pacific Sunset Route to be handed off to CSXT for forwarding to Atlanta via former Louisville and Nashville iron. On the head end of the train is a block of signature Tropicana Orange juice reefers headed back for loading with Florida's finest in Bradenton. Back in the day when I was running the show from the old MoPac Avondale we called this the Pacer Train account it was primarily containers for Pacer Stacktrain, whch was the successor to American President Line's pioneering domestic landbridge service that began in 1984 and was sold to Pacer in 1999. Pacer was later acquired by XPO logistics as the world of shipping and intermodal continued to evolve, and I understand today no interline intermodal moves through the gateway having been shifted to Memphis a few years back.

 

Back in my days here all other UP-CSXT traffic (approximately 10 trains each way daily) was directly interchanged between the two carriers and took the Norfolk Southern owned (old SOU) "Back Belt"from the Huey P. Long bridge at East Bridge Jct. through Metairie and past East City Jct., Frenchmen St. and NE Tower. This train, however, warranted the extra cost of paying NOPB to forward it across their route to avoid the congestion and expedite the train.

 

They are passing in front of the St. Louis Cathedral on Jackson Square which is the center of the city's French Quarter. The first church on the site was built in 1718 and this is the third which was constructed in 1789. Largely rebuilt in 1850 it has looked about like this ever since and is technically considered a basilica. Pope John Paul II visited in 1987 and prayed before the altar though he did not hold a mass here instead holding that outside on the lakefront before some 200,000 faithful! I called the New Orleans area home from 2000 to 2005 where I spent one year working for the NS at Oliver Yard and four for the UP in Avondale. That was a time in my life I will forever be grateful for and it seems like a lifetime ago...

 

I could write so much more about the city and the railroad operations that make it a truly great railfan destination. Anyone up for a trip to shoot trains all day, eat some of the best food on the planet, catch some Jazz over in the Marigny, and then drink the night away? Oh I dream...

WEEK 17 – Southaven Gordmans Liquidates Again (VII)

 

Panning to the left (and fast-forwarding five days to June 2nd, 2020, for the majority of the rest of these pics), here’s an overview of practically the entire right-hand half of the store, beginning with what I believe was signed as the women’s activewear department closest to us in the foreground (I see a more generic “women’s” sign off to the right, however).

 

I was a little afraid that Gordmans’s sad 2020 downfall would receive very little documentation here in the online retailsphere, but happily, y’all have been proving me wrong on that! Random Retail, for instance, has shared a few converted Gordmans during their liquidation sales, and gameking3 has recently been on a major spree uploading a ton of Gordmans stores, both holdovers from Gordmans 1.0 and Stage-owned conversions. I can’t possibly link to every tour, but hopefully the searches I linked to behind those guys’ names brings most of them up for you (if flickr cooperates with me, lol). I think it’s particularly interesting to see not only the wide variety of interior atmospherics from the converted stores (which is to be expected), but also the variety even between different Gordmans 1.0 formats. I hope y’all enjoy looking through and comparing all that stuff as much as I have! And thanks to those two for documenting this chain so well, also…

As a human who lives on earth, it is our responsibility to make sure that it is protected. We must give back to the future generation that what we have received and enjoying. Give them an environment that isn’t damaged and teach them how to continue living sustainably. I request all good souls to plant Banyan tree while making tree plantation. It will have a long lasting effect for mankind and go a long way in carry forwarding the nature to the next generation and will also give fruits useful for birds. Instagram Id : @nagendran_c4777. Today 13/1/2023 I was in Nagarahole Tiger Reserve – Karnataka Forest to capture in my camera my dream animal - the Leopard in its full glory. Though I have captured the animal before the shots were not to my liking. This time too the Leopard eluded my lens and finally showed its face after my prayers. I wrapped up and was advised to cross the first check post before 5 pm. I crossed it as instructed and when my driver was speeding up to cross the second check post I saw a Leopard slowly coming to sit in a rock. Immediately I instructed the driver to stop and come in the reverse. He quickly responded and stopped at the exact spot and switched off the engine. I got some nice shots and tears of joy rolled down my cheeks. Thank God and thanks to the driver who was very obliging. We should preserve Nature and hand it over to the next generation.
