I found these formation of lupins interesting to capture and waited for the light to hit the lupins leading to my subject before taking the shot.

Photographed in Arches National Park in Utah, USA. This park has a large number of weathered rock formations and many stone arches. In a spectacular and beautiful desert setting.
An interesting example of rocks (perhaps sedimentary?) that have undergone compression and folding. If they are indeed sedimentary rocks, each layer would have been deposited horizontally, so over time they've been raised into the vertical as well as apparently undergoing compression and finer folding as well. Any geologists care to comment? The formation as seen is about 3m high.
Katy Pedley's explanation below details the interesting background to these rocks. I'm not sure whether they've survived the November 2016 earthquake that so badly affected Kaikoura.
9 RAF Panavia Tornado GR4 aircraft fly in a "diamond 9" formation over RAF Marham on 28th Feb 2018. This was the last of the bases celebrations of the RAF Tornado prior to it's retirement from service.
This is a Fallen mushroom rock on the Marcus Landslide Trail.

Here weathering and erosion took their course, toppling this mushroom. Notice that the area under the bottom of the mushroom, where it detached from its base, has a different color than the surrounding area. That small patch hasn't been exposed to air and water for as long as the rock around it, revealing a gap in time between the slowly formed mushroom and the sudden event of toppling over.
The mushroom started forming underground, where water eroded and removed the surrounding decomposed granite to expose it. The large boulder that the top of the mushroom leans against was likely attached to it at one point, which would have made the formation extremely top-heavy. Eventually the base of the mushroom wasn't strong enough to hold the weight above. The actual break at its based could have been caused by water freezing in the crack, strong wind, a distant earthquake - no one knows. Suppose another large mushroom formation like this one had broken high up on a steep slope and slid down. Do you think it could have started a landslide?
