During the winter of 1777-78 the Continental Army, under the overall generalship of George Washington, camped at Valley Forge one day's march north and west of Philadelphia where the British Army was quartered for the winter. Some 20,000 strong, they were the 4th largest town on the North American Continent at the time.
Known as the Knox Covered Bridge, the original was built in 1851 at a cost of $843, but it washed away in an 1865 flood. It was replaced and then upgraded in the mid-20th Century with steel girders to take modern traffic across Valley Creek.
40 hours later, The Forge is finally finished! So, what is The Forge? The Forge is a mobile asteroid mining and processing facility. It uses six tugs to collect asteroids and bring them to one of the six mining platforms near the front of the ship. The asteroids are then put through grinding drums that break them into smaller pieces. Next, any desired ore, minerals, etc. are removed from the fragments and the waste is jettisoned from the ship. The ore, minerals, etc. are sorted into seperate containers. Eight huge reinforced plates protect the shipping containers from rogue asteroids and open to allow a transport to collect them.
The two bridges share the workload of the ship. The rear bridge is in charge of piloting, navigation and shipping. The forward bridge handles the mining and processing operations.
Alright, time for some tech specs!
The forge measures in at a whopping 156 studs in length (The biggest SHIP I've ever built). She's 62 studs at the widest (26 at the thinnest) and 38 studs tall. I did have two big landing gears built into it but it got WAY too heavy for them, thus the stand. It also has motor-driven grinding drums in the mining platforms and the big grey button in the middle of the ship opens and closes the armored plates. The plates where also supposed to be motor-driven but I could get them working for the life of me. Oh well!

Shot at the first light festival at Sainte-Marie among the Huron. This shot really push my equipment to its limit. It was VERY dark in there... I stabilized the camera on a bench and shot a few at different exposures. Obviously, I have no control over what the the "forgeron" was doing so I use the cleanest shot of him and composite the rest of the background from the less noisy shot. The final image received some tonal adjustments and the usual de-noising and sharpening with the Topaz AI plug-in.

The forge features a 10,000 ton hydraulic press that is claimed to be the largest open die press in the Western Hemisphere. Norfolk Southern delivers these time-sensitive loads from Steelton, PA to LVRM for spotting at the forge.

A large water droplet suspended on a fine thread captures the surrounding imagery and forges a gem.
Note how the surface tension adjusts to follow the thread...the physics of water at this tiny scale always amazes me.

It is not often you get smoke like this at the end of June in Georgia. This is the home of the forge at Foxfire Museum in Clayton/ Mountain City, Georgia. They work diligently to preserve the history of Appalachia. Made for a beautiful visit.

What a lovely surprise when I went to Elysium Cabaret tonight. Beebs greeted me with the gift of some red items and gold belt from The Forge Akina gacha. She had lucked out and won the two rares at the Lootbox which had All-Colour huds, so she had lots of extras as we gacha players usually do. The Zuiderzee Museum is a cultural history museum in the Dutch city of Enkhuizen. In the museum that exists since 1948 the culture and maritime history of the former Zuiderzee (now the IJsselmeer, Markermeer and the Wadden Sea) is shown. In 1983 it was expanded with a very large outdoor space where villages and buildings have been rebuilt.
