June was a tough month... Not only did I have my transmission go out on the truck. Their would be NO storm chasing for about 3 weeks. Of course its June and we did have few good storms pass though and I was disappointed that we couldn't go get em all.

Back in the saddle for this last June storm. Nice for almost end of season development. Under the base this storm no tornado was going to form due to it being undercut. Nice rotation in this cell though, and it was what we came for.

Cells just my west were building and I had few moments to get some captures from the outer rim of this storm.

Ok... on a side note. Some Cloud Pareidolia here. Every year that I'm out taking pics of the storms, I always get a visit from what I call the Old Man in the Storm. Here is 2016's visit from him...

I had to get south and fast to stay in front of this storm. All within the legal limits of the law eh. Hwy 10 Southbound now and Road 370. This cell was still Nader Warned and I was right under the base @ sunset...Pure Storm Chasing Eye Candy!!!!

Gotta luv severe weather when it pops close to home and I don't have to travel very far. One concern was my truck. Diagnosed with wheel bearing and axle problems. I wasn't going to go to far.

Right off the bat, wall cloud was forming on the back edge of this supercell. Severe warnings were up, but this storm had other plans. It just decided not to move for about 25 mins and stayed right in place.

Quarter sized hail and I had a few bruises to prove it! Plus we had another lone cell just to the north of this one which would eventually get eat'n up by this cell but it sure was purdy to watch!

No nader this day, but structure, hail, and strong winds made this a perfect day for severe weather photography and videography!

Our Severe Weather seasons is coming to a close. One last severe weather setup and it would be worth our time to chase.

We were obviously to close now and we had to pack up and exit fast.

Though that wasn't going to be easy. We had rain past few days and the roads here are not dirt. They are clay with gravel over them. I've learned my lesson driving on Nebraska Dirt Roads... You Don't if you want to chase the storm.

Staying on pavement we headed south towards Loomis Nebraska and the to Holdrege and back north to Intercept via Hwy 181.

This had the classic hook echo on radar and we were right on time for the next event. Though this storm didn't produce another tornado we got right underneath the rotating base of this storm.

Always good storm chasing stories to tell about my weather adventures in 2014.

Days right after my knee operated on... Home from the hospital & I definitely wasn't supposed to be out and about. Knee was almost in a cast and I wasn't supposed to be doing anything to aggravate the situation. Though my quest for severe weather never ends and I wasn't going to miss another possible chase especially when its in my backyard. This storm was going to be a photogenic monster... Decision was made & off I went.

Personal Note *** On the original set Back in 2014 I had use the free Avery photo editor here Flickr and it wasn't the best but I had no prior knowledge of editing them back then. Only shot in .jpg format and I didn't do the best by over coloring and over saturation. Was very under experienced in photo editing back then.

This is the original set of captures from this day. There are some here that are edited but most of them are not altered here. Another epic set of thunderstorm captures from South Central Nebraska.

By going out ... I paid for it. Soreness without relief for a few days after this shoot. Knee after the surgery was super sore with lots of swelling. All worth it when it comes to what epic views I caught storm chasing on that particular day!

Spring is in the Nebraska Air!!!

I didn't have to wait very long for my first storm opportunity. Though this was not a severe storm and it was only one cell.

We had briefings from the weather service about possible non severe thunderstorms for that afternoon. I have been wanting to get out to get some cloud action and I wasn't going to get disappointed.

I know what I'm looking for when it comes to storm cloud structure. This was a good way to start off the year. Close to home and it couldn't have been more photogenic!

Late July 2023...

This month of storms was just down right jaw dropping. Why not continue since we didn't have any storms in May or June! Overtime for July is the way I like it!

90% of the time of year in South Central Nebraska is Hot & Humid. It is normally the beginning of our dry season. But not in 2023.

In the path of the Jet Stream that day that forced some severe thunderstorm development over south central Nebraska. We were not excepting anything super severe but a tornado or 2 is always possible this time of year.

Gear Primed & excited about the views I'm going to get for this event that day. I knew they were going to be photogenic.

The storm I was viewing had weakened and I had to make a decision on some new storms developing to my west or stay on this storm.

I decided to head to the west via Hwy 6 to Arapahoe then north on Hwy 283. It would put me right against this new developing storm cell that already had a warnings issued on it.

When I caught up to on the southeast side of this storm cell, it was just starting its mature stage and I was in for a treat... again!

It's Nebraska ... This our go time for severe weather & she didn't disappoint. This was the beginning of a 3 day severe weather event in South Central Nebraska.

Now my attention was the cell that was coming right at my location. In fact there were 2 cells. I was centered on this one in the beginning due to it had a severe warning on it. Both cells would eventually be severe warned.

Though this had some incredible photogenic storm structure. It had some minor rotation with this. It had my interest.

Storm development was spotty at best, and the first storm was the best of the day, though I did get into some action once back into southwest Nebraska... I wasn't disappointed...

Late afternoon early evening storms were on the back of the Low coming though south central Nebraska. This means they were traveling from the southeast and moving to the north / north west. That is not normal for us... usually west to east!

Severe warnings went up and were were prepped and ready. Not to far of a jaunt from home as we ended up just south of the Grand Island I-80 Exit. A few miles south to be exact.

August 2021 has been a gem for storm photography and videography! This was just the beginning of the month!!!!

Nice set of thunderheads off to our southeast. Nice Towers forming over northern Kansas and moving into southeast Nebraska. No chasing this day. Had to work, but this was good for an after work viewing of the storms.

I Seriously, wasn't going to go out this night... Had a weeks worth of hell, and I really just wanted to do was get off work and go home. I was tired, I was cranky, it was the first weekend I've had off in a Month...

As soon as I pulled into the driveway @home, I could hear the weather radio going off and my storm capturing sensation came over me. Listening to the bullitins coming over the radio and I Freaked!. The storms were closer than I had thought. NWS just put warnings for Northern Buffalo County for super fast development of strong to potentially super severe, with large hail, and possible Tornadoes.

Photography Chance of a lifetime... Even though someone could cast me as a member of the Walking Dead....I was a trooper and I didn't wimp out! Luckily I had the my camera on the charger... Grabbed all my equipment & I hauled A** North... 20 mins later I found myself in the perfect spot, under the perfect conditions!

Cresting over northern Buffalo County, ready to cross between Pleasanton & Ravenna Nebraska, this cell was rapidly building and already had tornado warning on it. Incredible CG lightning in front of the storm cell was just to good to capture, with lighting firing off every few seconds.

After the tornadoes in south central Nebraska that afternoon. Storms were still percolating and still severe enough to produce what I'm looking for... That wouldn't happen again that day... Oh the structure on those severe storms were truly photogenic. Some of the best Nebraska outflow boundaries of 2018 were in my viewfinder that day.

Though sick as a dog, I proceeded east and stayed ahead of these cells in case they produced again. These storm cells wouldn't give me any more Naders that afternoon, but it sure was fun to follow these remaining storm cells.

Didn't have to go very far for this chase day. All the storms were coming to us. Though the greatest risk for Naders this day was way way north. I knew if anything would form this way it would be brief. It was.

Started out with the first cells that came though, but the dust was so thick I really didn't want my camera in it so images were limited. But I did get a few.

Video is always running so was able to make this short vid of that chase day. 80+ mph winds with these storms as they moved though Nebraska. In all it was 3 rounds of severe weather and not just 1. Winds were ferocious... not safe to drive in this unless your experienced. I had a hard time at times keeping the truck on the road.

West of Odessa Nebraska was where I would first get some good video and photogenic captures of this approaching storm. Haboob ish.... strong winds were pulling the dirt in the outflow of the storm. Several radars were tracking just the dust cloud. It was a kewl sight to see live.

Not many captures from this set due to the blowing dust... but what was caught... well... You know!!!

Its was a dry summer... Though hot and humid, storms were few and far between at the end of July 2016 in South Central Nebraska.

Now don't get me wrong... Nebraska had its fair share of severe weather this time of the year. Though all of it was either west or east of Central Nebraska. Or simply out of my chasing range.

Any storms that came within our vicinity would die and then rebuild east of my location. I work overnights so chasing the night storms this year were not in my or mother natures plans.

So when I had any opportunity to catch that perfect light, like this particular evening , I couldn't have asked for a better scenario of light and storm. I was just happy to get these captures!!!

Mid October... 2023

Final Chase Day at hand for 2023....

Warm and with SPC Active warnings that afternoon of severe weather. Stayed in the South Central Nebraska Hwy 6 Neighborhood.

Some wicked good, or should I say fantastic views of the out waves of moisture to mix in with spookiness of October. Late season supercells along the dryline were forming & I had to get underneath! You know for the view that are contained within! Oh I got my share that day.

Not to spoil the fun... No Tornado that day.. or at least I didn't see it. Came over the 2 way that the was one on the ground exactly where my cameras was pointed... however bad positing on my part. If it was there I didn't physically see it. It doesn't mean it wasn't there...

The active warning for the Tornado didn't fire off on my alarm till I was already due east of Minden Nebraska. Didn't have the best plan for attack here. I knew it was coming but where I deiced to park wasn't the best viewing position. When that alarm goes off & didn't have the best road network to navigate though the city or around the city of Minden. So I decide to stay put since it was already heading my way.

Sometimes this is a good decision, that day it wasn't. I had played this day out a little to shy & got caught with just an outflow dominate storm that afternoon after the Tornado Warning.

It was a Fun way to end the 2023 Chase Season... Can't Wait for 2024!

Hot, Humid, just the way I like it. Developing pulse storms to our northwest that late evening. Its what brought me out and about.

Again these Nebraska Skies were talking. What I thought would be a normal beautiful billowing cloud Nebraska sunset, turned out to be a majestic night of light, mammatus, and shadow.

Moderate Risk threat that afternoon as the storm began to fire about 5pm CDT in south central Nebraska.

We had planned it out perfectly. Just out in front of these cells before the NWS threw a warning on this supercell. We didn't have much time though as it was producing golf ball sized hail just to the west of our location.

I did a 180 turn to look at the sky from the due east. It sure looks like a small funnel but in reality its just a low hanging scud cloud.

It is hot & humid this time of year here in Nebraska. Severe storms do come a calling in the overnight hours. Outflow dominate storm with a nicely define shelf cloud to boot!

Typical August Nebraska storm cell, was a slow mover at 14mph to the south southeast. Came out central Nebraska late night and decided to drop some torrential heavy rain.

Some late night shelf cloud fun. Dual Layer, and some ambient light from the city of Kearney made this a rather fun night storm photo opportunity.

Every year on/in the Non Storm Season... I go back & re-edit the masters. This year I wanted to get this set done since I was way over everything... To much color, to much contrast, there were flaws in the panoramas... The orginal set can be found here on Flickr

I have Remastered this Series

Fixed Everything. Normal Color, no added saturation or contrast. No Extra's. You're seeing the Raw images. Slight adjustment with light but that was about it.. Also Fixed the flaws in the panoramas!...

I have this uncanny knack to get to the right place at the right time when it comes to storms... This one was another spot on encounter. I decided to eyeball this storm and put away the radar and other electronics and just chase use the old way.

It had been a few weeks since any good photographic storms. We had Severe Thunderstorm warnings counties south of Phelps county (Located in South Central Nebraska) that afternoon.

Raced this cell and I was now in position to capture this beauty. Just a few miles north of Elm Creek on Hwy 183. This place has the best view over the valley. Worst cell phone reception ever.. even with a 4g booster I couldn't push out a signal.

Drove Hwy 2 northwest till I was few minutes in front of the storm. Set up shot to catch this wicked good shelf cloud.

Nothing like 3 am on a dark country road with this coming at ya! Luv summer storms in Nebraska!

These storm cells were forming just to the north of Kearney. Northern Buffalo county, and moving due south. There was sufficient cloud to ground lightning firing off every few seconds. I drove north, right under base of the storm. There was way to much low cloud cover to get any decent pics... This was one of the pics from under the base.

Moved south again, to get the best photographic advantage of this storm. Sitting right on the western outskirts of Kearney, I was out of the low cloud cover, clear skies to the west with this approaching storm cell was almost to good to be true!

This was one of the few times I had the opportunity to capture lightning this summer. Lightning is tough to capture the way it is and I'm still learning techniques to do better. I would say these captures came out better than expected.

Incredible structure on this just issued warned storm cell.

Traveling south from Odessa Nebraska, I could see the rotation on this from about 20 miles away.

I didn't waste any time to get to my location just south of Holdrege Nebraska to get into the perfect position to get these captures.

2nd Chase of 2017...

I got positioned just ahead of the front, even though it was pacing fast to the east. I had about 10 mins before the front passed again.

Severe Thunderstorm Warnings were in effect now for eastern Dawson and Western Buffalo Counties. The storm that I had caught south of Lexington had split and those cells now were south my location were producing golf ball sized hail.

I was in for some horizontal rain, pea sized hail. While I could, I was photographing some formidable Nebraska stormscapes!

South Central Nebraska, early May 2012. No chasing this day due to work late. Afternoon Storms were predicted that afternoon & evening. Slow movers they were to be.

Off work & I was in luck. The dryline had stalled right over south central Nebraska that afternoon & the explosion of billowing thunderheads erupted. Billowing picturesque Thunderheads. Some of the most photogenic cells I caught in 2012.

Wicked Photogenic Severe Storms developing just to my east and & another batch of developing severe storms right over my head & moving the northeast. What a afternoon of Light & Severe Storms... Click Click Click!!!!

Prime Time....

Way past midnight now, and this was the 3rd set of storms to come into north central Kansas. This was the same storm that produced the tornado just a few mins ago.

We were under a tornado warning and we thought that this was going to pass fast over us... what it did was produce a nice sized funnel headed directly at our location. We stayed until it passed right over us. It did drop a tornado just about a mile to our east... according to the radar...

We didn't stay for much longer after this. Waited till the hail and headed north.

What a storm to end up the month of May 2021!

2017 Storm Season in south central Nebraska really hasn't been. Until this storm.

I wasn't feeling that good that afternoon. Had a touch of the crud, and energy level was way down. I honestly had no plans to chase storms that afternoon.

The storms that afternoon were moving the from east to the west. (This is RARE in Nebraska) As these storms had been brewing and raging most of the afternoon in north central Nebraska. Most of these had died and parts had reformed or backbuilded throughout late afternoon. Seen that a few of my other chaser friends from StormViewLive.com were out and streaming and these developing cells. I simply couldn't miss this....The rest is history....

Now positioned just to the west of Eustis Nebraska. In some of these captures you can see the water tower from city of Farnam. I wasn't able to get ahead the storm, though just as good, as I got right along side this monster.

Perfect timing, perfect light, and the perfect storm... what more could I ask for!!!! You Gotta Love Nebraska!

It simply was the best structured photographic beauty that I wait for each year. It is, in my own personal opinion, this set of images are my Best Captures of 2017.

3nd Chase of 2017...

Another early April moderate risk day in South Central Nebraska. Which would turn out to a bust. Storm really didn't fire till after sunset.

Waiting for the instability to fire the storms. Was in the right place, just mother nature had other plans. This particular cell was just building and didn't produce anything but some scenic cloudscapes....

Some nice Nebraska Storm Eye Candy to tide me over till the storms that evening.

It has been an excellent start to the 2016 chase Season. Bonus was, that I had the day off and no commitments except for storm chasing. I was set for an Epic Day!

I ended up with well over 700 pic from this storm chasing event, but I've skimmed it down to about 100+. Truly this will become some of my best photography to date...

Now exiting Kansas, on the Colorado Border. This cell would be the one that would produce the Wray Tornado. I had a perfect view of the furthest south cell as I was entering Colorado and trying to get to Hwy 385 North....

Tornado warnings had been issued for Yuma County, and looking at the spotter log, there were about 300 chasers on those particular warned storm cells.

Due to this, I had thought I was out of the game for the day. Traveling all that way, honestly, I was getting anxious thinking that I drove all this way for nothing... but I was so wrong......

I was seriously late the game on this storm. But I was never out of the game. I had now positioned myself just to the North of Wray Colorado.

Strategically, you want to be to the south east, southwest for the best light... It's all about timing, and I thought it wouldn't produce till it was well west of my location. Giving me that perfect view of the backside rotation of the storm.

In my opinion, I found a perfect view, looking due south southeast. I ended up on the northwest side of the rotation. Dangerous yes...but this will eventually give me one excellent view of this tornado and all her glory.

Another Incredible Nebraska Skyscape. Beautiful July ambient light, against a dying thunderstorm. Nope it's not severe but it's what I do when the light is right. Plus, I was super sick... A few days away from being forced into the hospital. I'm better now, and thankful.. that's a story to come!

I honestly took extra time on these captures. I was using a new filter on my new lens. So no added color or any adjustments to the image in Photoshop on this set. Now I had to bring them through Photoshop from raw... but that's it and of course the pano's are done separately.

Also... I only had one camera...for video that evening. Otherwise you would have seen this first storm cross over and you would have seen some sweet Nebraska thunderstorm views. Just to the east southeast. July Mammatus... these are just as sweet as this video... Just captures though...These have been added to this set.

It seemed the sicker I got, the better the photography I took... It was only about 10 days till I was forced into the hospital. I shouldn't have been out. But you don't get captures like this if you don't go try to catch them...

I was sick but had a blast, and what I caught was just Awesome!

We had to pack up and move south via Hwy 283 South then Head due east of Hwy 89. This route takes us though Beaver City, Orleans, and eventually just north of Alma Nebraska.

Now just west of Orleans Nebraska. Meso on this storm was getting well defined. Definite rotation and we were under it. Pulled ahead of the storm about 5 to 6 miles to get this next set of jaw dropping images.

Now on the I-80 Interchange at the Elm Creek Nebraska Exit. This was forming just to my southwest as another tornado was on the ground right in front of me.

I could hear the trees being ripped out of the ground and they sounded like a thousand snapping toothpicks. I didn't have much time as I would soon learn that there were 2 tornadoes on the ground and not just one. This was just one of the several satellite funnels that were forming all around me at the time of these captures.

This month of storms was just down right jaw dropping. Why not continue since we didn't have any storms in May or June! Overtime for July is the way I like it!

90% of the time of year in South Central Nebraska is Hot & Humid. It is normally the beginning of our dry season. But not in 2023.

In the path of the Jet Stream that day that forced some severe thunderstorm development over south central Nebraska. We were not excepting anything super severe but a tornado or 2 is always possible this time of year.

Gear Primed & excited about the views I'm going to get for this event that day. I knew they were going to be photogenic.
