Entry for my Iron Builder with Lego Junkie. The secret ingredient for this round is Curved 4 x 1 Double No Studs.
I spent a wonderful day with my son visiting west Wales and learning about woodland management and conservation there. The majestic trees were inspiring, like being in a natural cathedral. I felt it was difficult to do them justice in a photo but the scenes were beautiful in the warm late-summer afternoon light.
It was fascinating to hear about the traditional (and now scientifically supported) forestry techniques including the benefits of mixing new and old (and even dead) trees of different species together to maintain a self-sustaining forest environment with valuable mammal, bird, insect and fungus populations in balance.

A brief visit to the local woodland today to find that forestry work is in progress in parts of the wood.
In 1996 I organised a photo excursion with D02-508 and a freight train on the Lillafüred forestry railway, in northern Hungary. The destination was the northern terminus of Mahóca, where no regular train service existed at that time.
The train has 3 types of freight, typical for this railway: short timber, long timber and stones.

Unfortunately we started off in dull weather but I managed to capture this shot of the loaded train at Majlath.

Hay Wood is a local forestry England site near to Baddesley Clinton. Always good to escape there for a walk. There is some work going on with clearing trees as you can see in the background. Sandy is explaining to Noah what is going on!

Catch up soon... thanks for looking... :-)
We set out to climb Stob Binnein and Ben More of Crianlarich via a route we had used some years back, only to find that it had been taken over by a hydro electric development. The initial part of our route meant stumbling through the vestiges of a Forestry Commission plantation. Walking through these areas is ponderous because of all the left behind logs and branches, many of which are hidden from sight by these beautiful carpets of moss which reclaim the forest floor.
Shot Angelica while I was in Hawaii with Sam(Dr.Robot), these are how they turned out, hope you like!

The freight wagons were to heavy for the last section Andokut-Mohaca, so we travelled in the box car to the terminus. On the photo the Mk48 has already changed direction and is about to depart back to Majlath. I took the photo from the high ramp, that used to be used for loading timber onto the freight wagons.
