PRESIDIO OF MONTEREY, Calif. -- Official U.S. Army Special Operations Command Parachute Demonstration Team, the Black Daggers, dropped in to Presidio's Soldier Field on Nov. 4 during the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center's 75th Anniversary Week celebrations. The team carried a special gift on their 6,000 foot jump, delivering a scroll announcing the award of the Joint Meritorious Unit Award to DLIFLC Commandant Col. Phillip J. Deppert. Students from the Presidio's military service units were on hand to witness the spectacle after spending the day participating in a Sports Day competition.

I so rarely go to the central library and then never bother going to the foreign language section, so when I find myself back in that area for one reason or another, I'm always happy to rediscover the decor.

Guests at the Brazilian Film Week opening night, which took place at The Centre for Language Learning (CLL) of The University of the West Indies (UWI), St Augustine Campus from Wednesday 30th September to Sunday 4th October, 2009. Spanish classical guitarist Francesc de Paula Soler and students and faculty from the Department of Foreign Languages, Literatures and Cultures hosted a presentation of Garcia Lorca's poetry with musical accompaniment. Known as "Poet of the Guitar," Maestro Soler's wide international activity as a performer has brought critics to hail him as one of the most notable names of the guitar world.

We are learning German from a lovely woman who attends Steiner College. We have a healthy biodynamic lunch at the beautiful campus and learn German each Friday.

Foxtrot Company, 229th Military Intelligence Bn., brought the SPCA of Monterey County "Hug a Pet" team and a hot dog lunch to Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center students and staff at the to Presidio of Monterey's Hilltop Track Nov. 9, 2016. Three dogs adopted from the shelter, two certified therapy dogs, and Pfc. Lingo - the school's mascot - spread "puppy love" to raise morale for service members, many of whom live in the barracks where they are not allowed to care for pets while completing military language training at the school.
