PACIFIC GROVE, Calif. - Service members from the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center once again led the parade at the 54th Annual Good Old Days, held in Pacific Grove on April 9-10. Monterey County’s largest arts and crafts show, Good Old Days featured over 225 art and food vendors in downtown Pacific Grove, live entertainment, old-fashioned games and contests, as well as the parade. An estimated 30,000 people attend the 2-day event making it Pacific Grove's largest attraction of the year.

PRESIDIO OF MONTEREY, Calif. -- Official U.S. Army Special Operations Command Parachute Demonstration Team, the Black Daggers, dropped in to Presidio's Soldier Field on Nov. 4 during the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center's 75th Anniversary Week celebrations. The team carried a special gift on their 6,000 foot jump, delivering a scroll announcing the award of the Joint Meritorious Unit Award to DLIFLC Commandant Col. Phillip J. Deppert. Students from the Presidio's military service units were on hand to witness the spectacle after spending the day participating in a Sports Day competition.

We are learning German from a lovely woman who attends Steiner College. We have a healthy biodynamic lunch at the beautiful campus and learn German each Friday.

Vollenda finds it important to know how to speak "photograph" in other languages, including ASL. You never know when you may need to ask if you can take a picture. Photographers being visual oriented, Vollenda appreciates sign language and enjoys learning it the most.

Further up the mountain from Beomeosa there lies a small hermitage called 금강암. Here is the gate through which lie the hermitage grounds.
We bought another Spanish program a couple years ago and I didn't like it very much... I REALLY wanted Rosetta Stone, but it is PRICEY (esp. since I spent just about as much for the other program we are NOT using) - Well... I just found out that the Library in WA. (along with a number of other states) HAS the Rosetta Stone program available in all the languages for FREE (or if you are out of state some places will give you a card for $30 a year)!!!!
Anyways, we are ALL doing Spanish right now and since I don't "own" the actual program I made up sheets for all of us to keep track of our progress. Here's the first page.

Munakata was one of the first four instructors at the Military Intelligence Service Language School starting in 1941 and served as an Army language instructor for almost four decades. After World War II he moved to Monterey with the school, which later became DLIFLC. Munakata Hall was built at the Presidio of Monterey as a general instruction building in 1984.
