Self-timer shot taken at dawn (6:49 a.m.) on the ridges of mount Lagazuoi (2.778 m), Dolomites
Main mountains visible are: Lastoni di Formin, mount Pelmo, mount Averau.
I am absolutely non interested in photographing human subjects, but I love to portray figures in natural settings. Not only to give a sense of scale to the landscape, but rather to find out, somehow "restore", the right proportions of man on this planet.
I guess in this case a simple picture is worth a thousand words...
Humanity is just an element, a part of nature, of the universe, of this planet.
The question "why are we here" has existed since the mists of time, a question that perhaps shoudn't be placed... I guess don't even exists a "why"... in any case reducing the universe to the limited reach of our minds indeed isn't a logical action.
So I confine myself to contemplate the wonderful reality of... being here! A tiny part of such endless immensities :-)

Cinque Torri are a small group belonging to Nuvolau group, in the Dolomiti Ampezzane north-west of San Vito di Cadore and south-west of Cortina d'Ampezzo (Italy).
Maximum height 2.361 m.
What you see in the background it's not the sky, but the wall of the Lastoni di Formin.
Nevertheless, this view from the summit of mount Lagazuoi (2.778 m), who sees the towers immersed in the early morning mist, reminded me the '33 movie "King Kong" and the utterly mysterious Skull Island. Hence comes my idea for the title :-)

Italien / Belluno - Croda da Lago
The Croda da Lago, together with Mount Pelmo, constitutes zone 1 of the Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is located in the Ampezzo Dolomites, between Cortina and San Vito di Cadore, in the province of Belluno. The Croda da Lago is an imposing mountain massif, consisting of several jagged peaks divided into two subgroups, at the foot of which is a characteristic Dolomite lake, Fedèra lake and the Croda da Lago - Gianni Palmieri Hut.
The Croda da Lago (2701 m), together with the Becco del Mezzodì, the Lastoi de Formin and the Rocchette, closes the Ampezzo basin to the south. It is enclosed to the north by Passo Giau and Falzarego, to the west by Valle Codalunga, and to the south by Val Fiorentina, and is divided into two sub-groups: Croda da Lago, with the peaks Ambrizzola (2,715 m), Monte Formin, Becco di Mezzodì and the Rocchette di Prendera, Ruoibes and Soraru; and Monte Cernera with Torre Dusso, Col Piombin, Cima Losciesuoi and the peaks of Verdal.
At the foot of the east face of the Croda da Lago, there is Fedèra lake, also called Lago da Lago, whose name derives from fèda (sheep) to recall the ancient pasture in the vicinity. Next to the lake is the Croda da Lago - Gianni Palmieri Hut.

Der Croda da Lago bildet zusammen mit dem Monte Pelmo die Zone 1 des UNESCO-Welterbes Dolomiten. Es befindet sich in den Ampezzaner Dolomiten, zwischen Cortina und San Vito di Cadore, in der Provinz Belluno. Der Croda da Lago ist ein imposantes Bergmassiv, das aus mehreren zerklüfteten Gipfeln besteht, die in zwei Untergruppen unterteilt sind, an deren Fuß sich ein charakteristischer Dolomitensee befindet, der Fedèra-See und die Croda da Lago - Gianni Palmieri-Hütte.
Der Croda da Lago (2.701 m) schließt zusammen mit dem Becco del Mezzodì, dem Lastoi de Formin und dem Rocchette das Ampezzaner Becken nach Süden hin ab. Sie wird im Norden vom Passo Giau und dem Falzarego, im Westen vom Valle Codalunga und im Süden vom Val Fiorentina umschlossen und ist in zwei Untergruppen unterteilt: Croda da Lago mit den Gipfeln Ambrizzola (2.715 m), Monte Formin, Becco di Mezzodì und den Rocchette di Prendera, Ruoibes und Soraru; und Monte Cernera mit Torre Dusso, Col Piombin, Cima Losciesuoi und den Gipfeln von Verdal.
Am Fuße der Ostwand des Croda da Lago befindet sich der Fedèra See, auch Lago da Lago genannt, dessen Name sich von fèda (Schaf) ableitet, um an die alten Weideflächen in der Umgebung zu erinnern. Neben dem See befindet sich die Hütte Croda da Lago - Gianni Palmieri.

Who knows how many times we've all seen this light... intangible, delicate, golden, mixed with mist... able to give life, form and depth to the landscape, just with a simple touch of grace :-)
A kind of light which I love very much, maybe also because a little less inflated.
Not a sunset, not a sunrise... it's just the very first light of the day (after sunrise).
In addition to the usual shots with alpenglow taken the previous evening, and a few sunrise pics, in a place like this I've thought to take advantage of this subtle light to portray the geometric forms, so typical of this area!
In this shot you can see: Lagazuoi ridge, Lastoni di Formin (just the summit side), the massive mount Pelmo, Nuvolau hut (very small, but it is there!), mount Averau.
There is also a bird flying in the fresh morning air... and even a cable from the cable car, thankfully only visible in the high definition file. Unfortunately, the sublime natural beauty of the Dolomites is often spoiled by too many facilities of various kinds. That's a pity...

Il monte Nuvolau (m. 2.575) è un balcone panoramico tra i più belli delle dolomiti da dove lo sguardo spazia su bellissimi gruppi montuosi.
Si possono ammirare le Dolomiti che fanno corona alla Val Badia, Gardena e Val di Fassa (Marmolada, Gruppo di Sella, Gruppo dei Cir, Ciampac, Sassongher, Odle, Puez, Gardenaccia) alla conca di Cortina e Passo Falzarego (Sass de Stria, Setsass, Cime Fanis, Col dei Bos, Lagazuoi, Tofane, Cinque Torri, Punta Fiames, Pomagagnon, Cristallo, Cadini di Misurina, Sorapiss, Croda Marcora, Antelao, Pelmo, Croda da Lago, Lastroni di Formin) il Civettaappare in tutta la sua maestosità e, in lontananza i bei profili delle Pale di San Martino.
Le escursioni per raggiungere il Nuvolau sono facili e brevi (due accessi sono serviti da impianti di risalita e un'altro è provvisto di qualche attrezzatura lungo il percorso), merita la sosta al rifugio grazioso ed accogliente che si trova sulla cima ed è gestito dal CAI di Cortina ...... ancora meglio è pernottare per assistere allo spettacolo del tramonto e dell'alba, indimenticabili momenti che colorano le rocce di rosa .......

Nel senso che forse , sempre, e per tutti, altro non è mai, leggere, che fissure un punto per non essere sedotti, e rovinati, dall’incontrollabile strisciare via del mondo. Non si leggerebbe, nulla, se non fosse per paura. O per rimandare un rovinoso desiderio a cui, si sa, non si saprà resistere. Si legge per non alzare lo sguardo verso il finestrino, questa è la verità. Un libretto aperto è sempre la certificazione della presenza di un vile - gli occhi inchiodati su quelle righe per non farsi rubare lo sguardo dal bruciore del mondo - le parole che ad una ad una stringono il fragore del mondo in un imbuto opaco fino a farlo colare in formine di veto che chiamano libri - la più raffinata delle ritirate, questa è la verità. Una sera di fine luglio a Mondeval. Attendendo il tramonto in compagnia del suono del vento e del tocco leggero della pioggia, un'improvvisa nuvola di colore arancio irrompe dalla Forcella Giau. Sospinta dalla brezza si alza verso i Lastroni, divenendo più rossa, più intensa, fino a svanire. Uno spettacolo che dura soltanto pochi istanti. E talvolta si ha la fortuna di catturarne qualche frammento.
Senza pretese.

Verkið er staðsett á Hallveigarstöðum við Túngötu. Myndina Fýkur yfir hæðir mótaði Ásmundur er hann bjó og starfaði í Holdsveikraspítalanum í Laugarnesi á árunum 1931–33. Myndin sýnir konu með barn í fanginu. Í þessu verki einfaldar listamaðurinn manneskjuna í frumdrætti sína og leitast við að draga fram massann í verkinu, en jafnframt er svarað með mjúkri hreyfinu sem gengur í gegnum líkama konunnar. Efnisáferð er slétt og jöfn og er fyrst og fremst til að skilgreina formin og massann. Þó svo að listamaðurinn virði hlutföll mannslíkamans, er hvergi stefnt að sjónblekkingu og virkar því myndin táknrænt.
Um þessa fallegu en jafnframt átakanlegu mynd sagði listamaðurinn í samtali við Matthías Johannessen í Bókinni um Ásmund: „Ég gerði hana í Laugarnesi. Það var bylur úti og mér datt í hug að gera mynd af konu sem reynir að vernda barnið sitt. Lítill strákur kom svo til mín síðar, sá skissuna og segir: „Ég veit hvað þessi mynd heitir.“ „Og hvað heitir hún?“ sagði ég. „Fýkur yfir hæðir,“ sagði stráksi.

Quelle formine a cuoricino mi hanno fatto davvero perdere la testa... E cosa c'è di meglio, per una PAUSA TESI, di un "dolcissimo" impiego come questo? :)
