I would really like to know how so many foreign owned establishments were able to get planning permission.

The new Northbrook Freshmart. To the south is the original store built by Lulu & Casper Thompson. Richard & Olive Hook purchased the original Thompson store from Ron and Shirley Sedore in 1979 and operated it as a Lucky Dollar Foodstore under the store name of Delibrook. The Delibrook was eventually demolished with the building of the new Freshmart in 1985. Tracy Hook (Hook's Homes) sold the Nascor insulated walls for the Freshmart and helped his father build the new store. Richard Hook Sr. can be seen wearing the blue Labatt's t-shirt. He would have been 53 years old in this photo.

When the Freshmart opened, Richard & Olive Hook sold bread at the special price of $.65/loaf.

The Freshmart was later sold to Bob and Marg Glecoff in 1988 for an IGA and later Foodland.

Foodstore opened July 2013 in part of former Non-Food Store which closed in 2013.

Acquired January 2007 ex Anglian Convenience Stores (t/a Heads Stores). Closed 2010 by East of England Society, and now re-opened December 2011 as Co-op Foodstore, repalcing former Co-op store at 7 Yarmouth Road.

It was depressing throwing out so much food and goods, much of it barely damaged but unable to be sold. And there was no time or space to sort out the stuff that "someone might be able to use".

Of course much of it was totally ruined. And the dogfood aisle was not pretty!

This small demonstration was going on yesterday along Rye Lane in Peckham. These people were not happy with Mr Khan's treatment of a young African man who he threatened and abused so they wanted everyone to boycott his shops: Khan's Mobile Phones and Khan's Foodstore.

They will be presenting Khan with a physical BOYCOTT demonstration every Saturday from 1pm then increasing this to Friday, Saturday and Sunday, daily during October, African History Month!

Kashmir Watan Foodstores seems to be a good option for those seeking a wide variety of Asian and halal groceries in Preston. The limited online reviews are positive regarding the quality and freshness of the products.

I first was aware of this store when it became a Wherehouse music store. (Wasn't that how they spelled it?--It was a creative spelling.)

It appears it may have been a Milgram or other food store.

Rossendale Borough Council.

The old Hy-Vee food store in Liberty has been vacated for some new digs, and Feldman's Farm & Home is in the former Hy-Vee building.

In the bing.com view, the old Hy-Vee is the light roofed building, bottom right, facing north. The new Hy-Vee is located where we see only site work being done.

And the black roofed building, near center, is the former Food Barn grocery, now Crowley Furniture, featured here: www.flickr.com/photos/darrell_james/sets/72157622597034747/

Wholefoods have arrived in UK - in Kensington. The merchandise is not so different from that of my local foodstore in Austin but the ambiance, clientèle and prices are far different.
