I was supposed to pick up a snack on West Street (in fact I did not even realize I was on West Street until much later), but in the end I was feeling quite full after the packed lunch on the boat a couple of hourse earlier and so decided to pass. Here are bowls of steamed goodies. I could not identify what they were as the signage was in Chinese and the girl at the stand moved away as son as I raised my camera. Don't know what store this was, originally. In fact, I'm embarrassed to say I don't remember any of what it's been for the 30 years I've lived here. Don't get over there that much.

The Ferry Building Marketplace is a people's marketplace serving residents and travelers alike. Located within the historic Ferry Building at the foot of Market Street, shops large and small celebrate food in all its forms, offering everything from artisan cheeses to the freshest of local fish.
We made this when my brother and my nephew came over from New York.
Popover Pancake
1/2 unbleached all-purpose flour
1/2 cup milk
2 eggs
1/2 stick of butter
2 tablespoons sugar
1/2 of a lemon Honey, jam or marmalade
Preheat oven to 425 F. In mixing bowl combine the flour, milk and eggs. Beet lightly, leaving the batter slightly lumpy. In a 12 x 8-inch au gratin dish, 12-inch round skillet or a 12-inch pie pan heat the butter until very hot. Pour in the batter. Place the dish in the hot oven and bake for 20 minutes, or until pancake is puffed all around sides of dish and golden brown. Remove from oven and sprinkle with sugar and juice of the 1/2 lemon. Return to oven for 2 to 3 minutes, or until pancake is glazed. Serve immediately with honey, jam or marmalade.
Every morning in Ship Bottom one of us went to Wawa for the papers, for donuts, for juice, and for whatever else we needed to start the day. So did everybody else.

This Bob Evans has been closed since the fall of 2008 for sure, if not longer.
I don't know what magic formula failed them. They seemed to be busy, and seemed to draw in families, not just the white haired crowd.
UPDATE: Spring 2012--This lovely building has been razed, and is a patch of dirt.
