The service industry is an important employer in the city. The city centre is one of the main shopping areas, with the pedestrianised Cruises St being one of the main shopping streets and also the recently pedestrianised Bedford Row. New on the agenda is the proposed pedestranisation of O'Connell St up to Roches St near the Oriental Foodstore and a new look for William St, the heart of Limerick City. Each side of the city has outlying shopping areas. Crescent Shopping Centre is in Dooradoyle, not far from the city centre. It has over 90 shopping outlets along with restaurants and the 12-screen Omniplex Cinema. Regular bus services run from the city centre to the Crescent Shopping Centre. The Jetland Shopping Centre is in Caherdavin. It opened in 2005. Its main anchor is Dunnes Stores, with other shops and services including Golden Discs and Costa Coffee
The Milk Market located at Cornmarket Row in the city centre sells locally produced foods and products. The market is run by the Limerick Market Trustees and is one of the oldest markets run in the country. The market is open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday with the Saturday market acting as the flagship and most popular market day. In 2010 work was undertaken to redevelop the existing market premises to an all – weather, all year round market facility as the market operated in an outdoor environment. The work involved constructing a large canopy over the existing market premises and was officially re-opened in June 2010.

This is the long straightaway section of belt that once led from the right-side cash registers to bring car order bins into the basement on their journey to the car order room at ex-A&P store 386. Today this store is a Food Basics, but the conveyor system, which closed 10 years before A&P today, is now long gone. The shorter upper belt for the left-side cash registers only appears coming from the upstairs in the upper right-hand corner of this photo.

This scene was typical of most Dominick's by mid-December. The Dominick's warehouse was running out of product to ship to individual stores, and no more goods were being ordered once the closings were announced.
A documentary pic from the first shopping in the bezobalu.org shop. We got fed up with the amount of packaging material we have to throw away every day. This shop allows to buy food and take it home in brought-in containers. Small step, but if everyone did similar, the waste would be greatly reduced.

Sarpsborg was an important town in Østfold ounty, centered around the timber and cellulose industries throughout the 19th and 20th centuries. Until just 10 years ago the city centre was bustling. Then came latter days' consumerism and the shopping malls: Amfi, Torgbyen, Tunejordet - to mention a few. Nowadays, mainstreet is remininiscent of a museum, dotted with derelict bars interspersed by the many evangelic churches and mission houses. Sarpsborg is now the home of many young adults, skilled laborers and their young wives employed in the health services or at the mall. They ride in cars through the thoroughfare on their way to the next big sale on baby diapers.

Probably the smallest mobile fast-food outlet that is so complete in itself! So what would like to have now?

The home deliveries are piling up inside this small Provigo store in Montreal. This store never had parcel pickup, but they use car order / commande à l'auto bins for home delivery service.
Not long opened, this Co-op foodstore is part of a small complex of shops and appartments in Shard End, Birmingham- there had been a Co-op branch here since the estate was built after the War, although it had closed in later years.

Owner Retiring, Selling Freshline Foods In Oak Lawn
OAK LAWN, IL --
After 47 years of serving the Oak Lawn community, the owner of Freshline Foods is retiring and selling the grocery store. John Siakotos announced he would be selling the family-owned business in a letter to customers on the store's website.
"We are beyond grateful for your loyal business and support throughout the decades. It has been a pleasure to serve you all."
The Skiatos family first opened the grocery store at 5355 W. 95th St. under the name Freshline Certified, a retailers cooperative serving independently owned grocery stores, in 1971. Operating now under the name Freshline Foods, the store employs approximately 60 people.
Siakotos said the store would remain open and continue business as usual until all inventory is cleared from the stores shelves. In the meantime, customers will receive 30 percent off their grocery purchases until the store closes. The owner did not indicate a closing date or if there were any interested buyers.
"Our commitment to providing you with the highest quality products and friendly service is still our top priority … We look forward to seeing each of you in the store these final weeks to thank you personally."
A few weeks after the store closed it was announced that Pete's Fresh Market would be moving in.
Former grocery branch of the Desborough co-op, recently merged into it's bigger neighbour Midlands Co-op. This foodstore has been closed down and re-opened as a Co-op funeral branch, much to the consternation of the local residents. At least it is being used at the moment and is not boarded up. Another Imperial Stout from the basement. This 2010 vintage coffee oatmeal stout from Athens, GA brewer Terrapin is as awesome now as it was in 2010. The dark roasted coffee is almost overpowering but balanced with some nice dark chocolate and malt. It is slightly viscous and eminently drinkable, hiding the 8.1% ABV very well. It goes great with some Trader Joe's 85% Cocoa Dark Chocolate!
The upper of the two old car order/parcel pickup/commande à l'auto conveyor belts at ex-A&P store #386. This is the point at which the 50m long straightaway section of belt started. It switched from electric powered rollers on a curved section, that then brought the bins from another straightaway belt that transported them up from the rollers at the left-side cash registers.
Kris and I went to Young Harris College in Young Harris, Georgia for a work-related meeting. This is a photo taken of the area behind the front counter through the window of an abandoned gas station we passed along the way.
This is a separate conveyor / set of rollers that was used sparingly to transport goods from the back room of A&P store 386 to the basement. Was primarily used to store seasonal goods when not in season (e.g. Christmas decor or summertime suncreen.)
Here is a store on the Yangshuo West Street entirely dedicated to hot chilly peppers. Having shot with a heavy dSLR for a major part of the morning, I had decided to give the big boy some rest and was shooting with an ancient Canon SX100 IS. That meant a sacrifice in colour and sharpness somewhat. Visiting West Street, travelers will be surrounded by an array of traditional folk art coupled with amazing international elements. Various gift shops, craftwork shops, painting and calligraphy stores, backpack shops, cafes, and Chinese Kung Fu academies jostle for attention. The sheer variety of the items on offer is mind boggling. travelers will be amazed by a multitude of items, In addition, everywhere on the street you can find bars and cafes, some run by foreigners, decorated with bamboo rafts, fish baskets, wax-painted tablecloths, and so on. This store seems to be selling local produce. We had seen stalls selling chilly peppers and condiments earlier in the Daxu ancient town as well, the previous day. (see Daxu album). Australian Adventure -
After strolling through the City of Hobart quarter, hitting Battery Point we found the WURSTHAUS, named one of the top five foodstores in Australia.
Seems to be a Holden Caprice in front of the store ;)
Holden - Australian Carmakers ... this was another story we learned ;)
Stock Lane as it appeared in the late 1950s, with a field where Ingleton House now stands. Opposite stood Sidgewick's house and stables (now Fairfield estate). In the distance can be seen the then new bungalows in Stock lane and housing started in Pine Close and Pine Drive. The cottages on the left are still there, the car park of the Co-op Foodstore being around the corner. The field with the horses in was probably part of the paddock and stabling of The Spread Eagle Inn on the High Street. This was demolished in 1963.
