Psococerastis gibbosa nymphs (?) on a fencepost in the Finglandrigg wood Nature Reserve, 12 July 17.
These were found on the same line of fenceposts as those photographed and filmed on 6 July (which were nowhere to be seen today!) but perhaps 50m away. At the time I couldn't identify the species - in fact I wasn't even sure if they were nymphs or adults.
However, on 30 July I found what was clearly an adult Psococerastis gibbosa close by (see photo of this date), and it struck me that the two clusters of unidentified barkfies might both be nymphs of the same species. Unfortunately there doesn't appear to be a formal key for barkfly nymphs, and internet image searches for Psococerastis gibbosa nymphs produced very few helpful results. The best I managed to find was the following stock image:

In both cases the resemblance to the insects in the above photo is very strong, and so all things considered I think these are almost certainly Psococerastis gibbosa nymphs.

Murgia is a sub-region of Apulia (Puglia) in southern Italy, corresponding to a karst topographic plateau of rectangular shape, occupying the central area of the region. The name stems from the Latin murex, meaning "sharp stone".
In this august I spent two wonderful days with two dear friends, Niccolò and Cosmo, to discover this magic land.
