Murgia is a sub-region of Apulia (Puglia) in southern Italy, corresponding to a karst topographic plateau of rectangular shape, occupying the central area of the region. The name stems from the Latin murex, meaning "sharp stone".
In this august I spent two wonderful days with two dear friends, Niccolò and Cosmo, to discover this magic land.
Just got home from a great day at the Raptor hide.
This juvenile Sparrowhawk was at the hide this morning for a little over 2 hours.
It was hunting and I think just being a complete pain to the Jays chasing them and forcing the down on to ground, every time they hit the deck the Sparrowhwk would fly back to a perch and wait for the next Jay to come in.
May be it is just practicing it's hunting techniques out and flying skill's, simply amazing to sit and watch.
This image was made from the closest it perched to the hide about 4 feet away, it was just to close to focus with my 400mm lens I had to pull the lens back in to the hide about 12 inch's to be able to focuson it, and at the same time not spook it before getting some images on the card.
The highlight of my visit to the NEC for Focus on Imaging was not any fancy camera equipment (of which there was plenty on show), but seeing Ola and James dance live with an opportunity for some shots and a little video-so we start slowly and build to a climax later !!!

Eristalis pertinax - Tapered Drone fly.
I found this very helpful for identifying hoverflies, British ones in particular.

Part 1 / 4.
How do you leave a place like this?
The concrete, the people. The litter, the depots. The accomodation facilities and waste disposal plants. The commerce and the prosperity. The sickness and the health.
It's hard to turn the key sometimes and pull away from such bliss.
But pull away you must.
Just turn the key, pay your fines and head for the exit.
If you can find it, that is.
