Venus flytrap from Boiling Spring Lakes, NC.

- I have seen these cool plants many times in the last 10 years in botanic gardens but also as cool house plants.

To put my carnivorous plant photos and drawings in perspective, a shot of my four potted ones side. The largest, the pitcher plant, is 8.5 x 9.5 inches across. The blue butterwort is 2 in. across, each sundew 1 in., and the venus flytrap 2 1/2 in the largest dimension. At night, drooping, the blue butterwort flower stem extends up 1 3/4 in. before curving down again. (I did not measure this morning when it was more erect.)

The Venus Flytrap (Dionaea muscipula) is a carnivorous plant that catches and digests animal prey (mostly insects and arachnids). The trapping structure is formed by the terminal portion of each of the plant's leaves.

If the prey is unable to escape, it will continue to stimulate the inner surface of the lobes, and this causes a further growth response that forces the edges of the lobes together, eventually sealing the trap hermetically and forming a 'stomach' in which digestion occurs. Digestion is catalysed by enzymes secreted by glands in the lobes. Digestion takes about ten days, after which the prey is reduced to a husk of chitin. The trap then reopens, and is ready for reuse, even though the trap rarely catches more than three insects in its lifetime.

New treasure! Another flower pot stuffes with nice and hungry venus flytraps.

From the epic, EPIC MWK reunion-esque concert at The Flytrap. I had a terrible spot for taking pics (lots of heads and arms blocking my view), Andy's lighting was TERRIBLE (poor guy. even when it's HIS band his lighting sucks), there was a 6 foot speaker in front of me blocking my view of Joey for most of the night and I was pretty much right in front of David, which meant Neal was too far away from me to be able to get a decent shot. Even the shots I managed to grab are barely so-so and most are blurry in some part of them. So, from a multi-media standpoint, the concert was a big 'ol fail from me. HOWEVER, it was a absolutely AMAZING as far as the experience goes. If THIS was the David we got as a front man for himself (completely relaxed and just having a blast) I'd be in heaven. It seemed to me that he was deliberately holding himself in check as far as letting Andy shine in the spotlight (figuratively that is, lol), but he just had this completely laid back vibe all night. THEN, during the final instrumental part of 'Til I'm Blue he FINALLY let it all out there. Check out my video on my Youtube channel to see what I mean. YEOWZA!

A Venus Flytrap in mid lunch. I felt a bit badly but unlucky Mr. Bug was already deceased at this point. Taken at California Carnivores, a nursery for carnivorous and other interesting plants in Sebastapol, CA.

Venus Flytraps (Dionaea muscipula) are one type of carnivores plant that is endemic to the Wilmington, North Carolina region.

Eastern North Carolina is the only place in the world where this plant grows natively.

A venus flytrap im growing. Taken with my 1000D and new extension tubes which I am still learning with!

Dionaea muscipula - probably the best-known carnivorous plant in the world, better known as the Venus Flytrap. This plant eats insects - the inner part of the plant is coated with tiny hairs; when an insect touches one, the plant closes shut, then begins to secrete digestive enzymes, which kill serve to kill the prey and absorb its nutrients.

Found in the Carnivorous Plants section at the David Welch Winter Gardens at Duthie Park, Aberdeen.

I had the veal piccata and it was fantastic. This picture doesn't do it justice, but it was the best I could do quickly with a flash in a rather dark room. I feel that too much food photography makes the food look unappetizing (menus at hole-in-the wall Chinese restaurants doubly so). I hate to add to that, but the dinner was too good not to be commemorated here. Any time you combine veal with capers and golden raisins you've got my vote.
