I went to the Flytrap in Ferndale, Michigan. It was good. I had this rootbeer float and 3 cheese and mac. Tasty. Not wonderful - but I plan on going again.

Growing in the New Forest, Hampshire, UK.

It appears whoever introduced the plants to the site,is actively managing them to prevent any further growth. The population is limited to a few individual plants.

Endemic to an area within 150 miles of Wilmington, NC. This famous plant continues to get dug in the wild in spite of it being easy to propogate.

This trap has closed several times and no longer works; it will soon die and be replaced by a new one.

Adventures in tissue culture with the Plant Molecular Biology course. If they get stressed, they may turn red due to production of anthocyanins, or worse black as the tissue dies off. This may happen as the nutrients in the medium get used up, or if the concentration was wrong in the first place. E.g. we forgot to add vitamins to some of our media, oops! Luckily as long as part of the plant is still alive it can usually be rescued by transferring it to fresh medium. The plantlet on the right made it all way to being potted.

Design Within Reach Product

Spring 2008

Collaboration With: Paul Lindstrom, Aaron Guenther, Mike Tews

Description: To work collaboratively creating a product line designed for the consumer base of Design Within Reach . The final product was to be integrated with the icon imagery created from earlier in the semester. For me this was the Venus Flytrap Icon.

Solution: Exile was the name chosen for our group with the concept in mind of going against the norm, being creative and an innovative thinker. The final product was a portable notepad decorated with imagery from the four icons within our group. This notepad is meant to be latched onto a keychain or belt in order to always be on the person using it. It is meant to capture those sudden jolts of inspiration and creativity whenever they occur.

Venus Flytrap In The Air -

A blooming flower without scent, a carnivorous flower that traps and kills. Aloft in the air, she nods her head and invites insects for a sweet stay. The guest is greedy for nectar and the masked murderer at the centre is scarcely seen. Those who do not wish to live, come right in.

these things are very cool. i think there is a bug in it as well - cant quite see

This one opened back up with the fly still in it.

This is a photograph of a Venus Flytrap. it is one of the most interesting and unique plants around. What makes it so unique is the fact that it actually feeds on bugs that are unlucky enough to be caught in it's trap.
