this is confetti at exacly midnight on new years eve.
its basically just a fire extinguisher that they shoved a bunch of shredded paper into.
confetti is wierd. its joyous and wondeful for maybe five seconds top. then it takes about three days to clean up with amounts like this.
i suppose its worth it though.
We made our "at least once a summer" visit to Brookside Gardens today to visit the butterfly exhibit. Although we set out in full sunshine, the weather forcasters had it right today! In the hour it took to get to Wheaton, heavy thunderstorms began. Nothing was flying in the outside gardens and inside, most of the butterflies were hiding or tentative. Late in the afternoon, the clouds parted and fliers came from everywhere to grab the last rays of sun and food before night.
My objective today was to work with extension tubes added to my 70-200mm lens to get as close as possible and as clear as possible with hand-held shots. The tubes make managing DoF a challenge so the 'keeper' rate goes down, but I got some I like. Hope you do to.

Variegated Flutterer is a distinctive dragonfly in Hong Kong. Its forewings and hindwings have a distinct pattern of black and yellow and it flies like a butterfly. Variegated Flutterers can be found gliding in a large group near the end of summer.
Flutter, day late and this is all I could find. When I cut on the ceiling fan the plant and curtains flutter ever so gently. I could capture their movement but I can capture the cause of that movement.

When the birds are uncooperative—which is usually most of the time—my fall back is often wildflowers or other macro subjects. One does not have to look far for amazing macro subjects on a bright summer's day. Take this beautiful dragonfly, the Graphic Flutterer (Rhyothemis graphiptera) along an outer-suburban Sydney park.
