YAY! My first time to be able to get a hummer in the air fluttering about...this is a gem. The wings are transparent almost. The evening sunset is behind him. Looks like an oil painting almost...but not! The fushia neck feathers were so BRIGHT...it looks painted on...but it is not!

A colorful and incredibly agile little bird, maybe 10-12 cms long that makes an amazing fan from its tails - much like other fantails. The bird zipped between the various perches in the underbush and it was quite hard to get a shot for a while. Luckily he expanded his range by a couple of feet to some nice perches and made our day! The bird was very active and fluttering so much that I could only marvel at its energy despite the super small size. The movements were also so beautiful and zippy much of the time.
This is a bird of the mountains and found much of the Himalayan belt, South China and parts of Southeast Asia. The bird flutters and makes such quick movements to flush out insects in the foliage which make up most of its food.

They can be so hard to capture, swallowtails: always fluttering from one flower to the next ... this one sat still for a second on the Haberberg!
It seemed almost criminal to arrest these kites in a still photograph, but here they are, under glass, for a dark winter day.
In my front ward I have a few Maple trees with low hanging limbs. I place a bird feeder on one of them to attract the birds and to give them much needed nourishment in the cold months of Winter. Red birds play from ground to limb. This is one such time of flight.

Smaller than a redshank, turnstones have a mottled appearance with brown or chestnut and black upperparts and brown and white or black and white head pattern, whilst their underparts are white and legs orange. They spend most of their time creeping and fluttering over rocks, picking out food from under stones.

Suposedly out of range here. After seeing just a couple of them last season I have seen an increase in numbers this season in the Sneydes Rd. Paddock. I also saw a couple as I came back up Hoppers Lane, beside the Research Farm Paddock.
