This is Jamie Holter, the Communications Manager, inside a bag that will be filled (hopefully after she has stepped out!) You get a sense of how large these bags are.
We got these bags from the US Army Corps of Engineers.
Here is a bag filled with sand. We will use 660 of these bags over a 2000-foot area on SR 167. One-thousand feet on each side.
There is a low point in the road and our survey crews, using our own instruments and inundation maps from the US Army Corps, shows us this spot is the most likely spot to flood first in the event of a big storm.^tjh
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District's flood protection project in Independence, Ohio, site pictured here November 9, 2018, will greatly reduce flood damages during high flow events on the Cuyahoga River. In the last several years, flooding events have increased and caused extensive damages to businesses.

I've never seen this particular floodwall installed before. All bridges, including this railroad bridge, except for the Kennedy Bridge on US 2 are closed in Grand Forks.
A major new flood defences is currently being built along a section of the Liffey and it has recently been extended to combat the impact of rising sea levels downriver. The section in my photographs is known as the South Campshires which includes Sir John Rogerson's Quay.
The Campshires are the stretches of land between the quay and road on both the north and south quays in Dublin. They are so named because various British military regiments, such as the Gloucestershires or Leicestershires, would camp there before setting off or returning from overseas, making 'campshire' a portmanteau of 'camp' and '-shire'.
Before the Dublin Port facilities moved down river, this was the area of the Dublin quays where ships were loaded and unloaded. As a result, the area had a number of storage warehouses and travelling cranes. The Dublin Docklands Development Authority renewed and renovated some of the area in the early 2000s, adding walkways and cycleways on both sides of the river Liffey, including parts of the Sutton to Sandycove project. A number of buildings on the campshires were also subject to renovation early in the 21st century.
Here is a closer look at the specialized plastic we use to wrap the sandbags in. When all the sandbags are lined up, we wrap them and then sew it up. Maintenance Superintendent Jerry Althauser holds a sample of the budding seamstress's practice work.
Nederland, Brabant, Gemeente Oss, 08-07-2010.
Groenendijk - Green dike. Until the second world war the Meuse flowed at high water over the dam at Beers. The floodplain was called the Beerse Maas or Beerse Spillway. The flood area was divided into compartments by transverse dikes, such as the Groenendijk, protecting the nearby village. The turns and small waters are traces of earlier breakthroughs.

Krimpen at the river IJssel, near Rotterdam: storm surge barrier, protects the highly populated western part of Holland, which lies below sea level. In case of storm and threat of high water, one of the two doors is lowered into the river (the second door is a spare one). The lock next to the barrier allows shipping when the barrier is closed.

Picture taken from Laurens County side looking over toward the Greenwood side of the Dam. First time I've seen dam. I don't know about dams, but if they claim Buzzards Roost Dam at Lake Greenwood needs $30 million in improvents to make it earth guake proof, this one looks like it needs at least some shoring up.

Depoldering of Overdiep Polder, farms are relocated and built on mounds. This makes it possible for the river to overflow the polder in case of heigh waters. The dikes have been excavated.
